Ok been casting 1/2 n eye over the forum as been a bit busy, and to be honest it looks like the Dam green party have taken over gaschat, what i mean is if anyone says anything they seem to get jumped on with you cant say this you cant say that, it's almost as if a new generation of mods and posters have arrived from outer space and belong to a new civilization called brainwashed sheep, i do worry for a lot of em as if they get offended on here how the f**k do they managed in society on their own. a few examples the whole ellis thing people trying to turn it into a race issue, when it was nothing of the sort again a shithead chant about ellis turned into far more on here as it suddenly become a hidden agenda against ellis, its simple really he watched the sh**, he was called a shithead, how the feck would have these posters have managed to get by in the tote every time the team was sh** massive chants of what a load of rubbish went up, kin ell guess what the players and supporters lived after these chants the world didnt end, no animals were injured(well maybe a few coppers  ). How have people become so subversive to their government masters that they have to genuinely believe that everything causes offence. Another example someone said shirt lifter, well f**k me the whole world will be enveloped in blackness as the sun hides for a week, that led to another rant about homophobia,more bandwagon jumpers etc. Look it goes like this whether you a homo or not not everyone has to accept it if someone mentions gay just remember what the word means, it means happy not tunnel testing. if it offends you stop using general catch all words in response as it make you look stupid unimaginative and a sheeplike, and for that matter why the f**k do you have to have to keep on saying oh your homophobic etc, nah people are not scared of your preferences, but are you maybe embarrassed by it in having to continually use the word. and for that matter the word gay is only offensive if you feel you aren't comfortable with what you like and need continual justification of it. if you are a homo deal with it you don't need to mince, talk funny or act in a way that you invented, when people use the words that's so gay is because that's the way you are perceived as acting, you know acting in a light footed manner. it's not offensive it's humour. Lets face it pretty soon will we need to send a text to a government department and seek approval in case someone takes offence at what we say. Those are just two examples, but a lot of threads keep saying ban them, that's offensive. lighten up and live a little. It's as if people are saying say what you want as long as i agree with you. which is ironically what you claim to be against. Again yes i think joeybannanas is a cu-nt sometimes but why was he banned individually just for highlighting the hypocrisy of modding policy. People need to have a swig from the cup of grow the fuc k up, and stop getting offended at every single thing posted Right got that off me chest ,discuss , but at least try to explain why you agree or disagree Sorry but if this ofrfends you please read and digest my avatar, and believe me when i say anything you say to me will not upset me in the slightest |

I don't bother to read many threads on here any more because I just can't be bothered. So you're probably right. I also used to moderate on a couple of (polite description) specialist fetish forums, so I know two things. Posters are idiots and mods are always wrong. Including me on that one.
I developed a tactic to help me and if the mods (new or old) here want to use it feel free. Whenever I had to make a decision about deleting a post or warning a poster, I always sent a personal message and I always titled it "From the desk of [insert name here]". This meant I was always in the mindset of making decisions and explaining them as if there was someone sat opposite me in real life. Whether that made me a better or worse mod I can't tell, but I left rather than being asked to leave so that's something!

Well, a short while a go the forum went all to f**k with a lot of personal abuse, trolling and crossing across and ruining of multiple threads.
There were a lot of complaints about inaction by mods and we started losing posers left right and centre.
Fanboy reacted by appointing more mods with a more reflective cross section of users now stepping up. (the mod clique was always a cheap shot anyway, but its certainly even less so now)
The night I was remodded JoeyB completely lost the plot and I banned him for 2 weeks. This was followed by a couple of other trolls and a couple of warning shots for people taking personal crusades across multiple threads.
You could argue that JoeyB was unfortunate to be caught out just at the time the Mods decided to get tougher. I can only tell you I have spoken to him via another user and he not only accepts his ban he was happy that in taking one for the team the forum as a whole and one or two users in particular are going to have to clean up their act.
I've always maintained that users should be able to moderate themselves, but sadly not all can it seems.
There are going to be some like you who feel we are running too tight a ship. That's possibly true, and hopefully as things settle down the need to mod will die back down to minimal levels.
There are others here who have gone to the trouble of making an alt to call me a hypocrite because they feel the main cause of a lot of the unrest has got away with it. Again, I do not feel its my place to take retrospective action against posters who abused gaschat when I was not on watch.
However, going by the Report a post function and all the PMs the Mods get the majority welcome the current strong line and the need to reclaim the forum from the trolls. Short term pain for long term gain, hopefully but thats really down to all of us who use gaschat.
Finally, I will repeat once more that mods are posers first, mods second. Sometimes we disagree with a post. We say so. That's not moderating that person, its just debating. Just like the rest of you. All posters are more than welcome to disagree with and challenging ALL posts here regardless of who posts them so long as its done in a respectful manner or when banter is clearly identified as such and reciprocal.

Being serious for once, I also run/mod a forum for Bristol Ex-Pats. At times it can get quite heated, especially if religion is being discussed. However, the posters are very good at moderating themselves. Also, age comes into it. The majority of my posters are, to be polite, quite advanced in years, so they are quite willing to argue a point, however, they are mature enough to know when to stop and share a virtual glass of wine/whisky with the others. On this site, I think there are a lot of quite young posters, and sometimes with the kiddies, they are prone to fire up at times.
I hate it when a poster gets banned as it can be really difficult sometimes to get across (in the written word) what you really mean (see, just like this!). I was banned myself from the old official forum for posting a joke about Amy Winehouse! My e-mails to the moderators went unanswered. Not a good way to run a forum.
I much prefer the system where the ban, lets call it a suspension, lasts for a couple of weeks instead. Obviously, if a suspension is repeated, then it must become a ban. A good slap is much better than a bullet to the head eh !

I've re read the OP and in fairness I don't think he is solely referring to the modderating.
There can be a level of butthurt over nothing at times.
That said, when genuine offense is caused the onus should be on backing down and apologising rather than telling people to get a grip just as you would in real life.
One of my favourite parts of this forum is some of the Gentleman Lounge threads that are at times horrible and offense and on a sixpence thought provoking and challenging and they just go their own sweet way depending on the mood of the day.
I do find it odd that the forum police haven't found themselves here yet, demanding action but I'm glad they haven't.

There used to be a Serious Forum on the AF site. It was eventually shut down because of complaints by people who never used it. The Mods didn't have the balls to tell people where to get off though.

Of course if a joke or constant reference to ignorance and stupidity is made they are the ones, quite often, up in arms. I am not sure what the government has to do with it, other than the fact that, in general, people I have referenced generally support central government efforts to read, vet and store everything we do or communicate. (I accept that this is a gross generalisation, but for the sake of the point). What was that about ignorance and stupidity? |

I'll step into the spotlight and admit that there have been more than one thread on the chat forum that I've ruined with innuendo and crass childish remarks but hopefully nothing really offensive.
Now, I limit it to general chat or the gentelemans lounge. And it's good to have these alternative sections to be able to do that.
As for the mods, thankless task which they do very well.
Apart from Hugo.
