Conceded 8 goals from shots outside the box in the last 11 games (Oct and Nov). Over 50% of total goals conceded in that period.
Who is to blame? Keeper? Lack of pressing? Midfield for allowing too much space? It's certainly becoming a bad habit we need to kick, I'm sure teams look at it as a weakness.

Midfielders not picking up the scraps.
Poor clearance from Sinclair for the first.
Wouldn't blame the keeper for either!

It seems that pretty much every shot from outside the box that is on target beats the keeper we have at the moment. On top of that he practically threw the ball in the net against Newport. He did manage to stop a shot with his face tonight though when most keepers would have preferred to use their hands and his erratic punching does cause some unexpected excitement.
In my view this keeper has a lot to do with our recent poor results and if Clarke is continuing to pick him ahead of Mildenhall we have to either question his judgement or his honesty for the reasons why this is happening.

Its obvious we need to play 3 in the middle of Midfield with one of them just in front of the back 4. Lines and The beard are not the answer.
Time for Lines to be dropped and Mans put in the middle, with OC in front of the back four in exchange for a winger

But Lines has brought back as Mansell wasn't good enough? Plus Sincs gave away the first goal last night! Surely suggesting dropping a winger after we''ve just signed two his madness?

If it stops the goals going in then it has to be done. There is no one big enough up front to get on any cross a winger may put in anyway !

I think our midfield is better with Lines in the middle, Mansell cant handle this league on a consistant level and I think its no fluke we have started scoring since Lines has come back in. I thought he was decent last night and also against Carlisle. Hes just the scapegoat for anything. Sinclair as much as I love his industry is beginning to show why he never made the football league IMO. Great at tackling, but always a sideways or a backwards ball, goes missing at times. If you want a tough tackling midfielder for this league we need another Stuart Campbell type who used to play a similar role for us, but always looked for a forward ball as well as simple.
Their first goal last night came because we didnt close down quick enough and the shot went through 4 Rovers players 3 of which were all stood within a yard of each other. That must have unsighted Nichols. That said it was a shocking clearance from Sincs. Better off letting it run for a corner or putting it sideways towards the terraces.
Their second goal came because Lee Brown rather than run out towards Whelpdale backed off and gave him 3 yards. It was a great finish but again caused by poor positioning.
We had a couple of distance shots but their defence did enough each time of their keeper being able to make a save.
Although Nichols has made some errors and he does make me nervous he wasnt at fault last night for the goals at least.

Nicholls doesn't even seem to attempt to save either 2 though. I'm not saying it was his fault last night but I have lost faith in him and we need a new keeper.

I know GGMI, on occasions its been his fault.
Last night it was poor defending all round that cost us and Whelpdales finish was class. If that had been one of our players we would have been raving about it, and rightly so.

Although Nicholls doesn't fill me with confidence, I don't think we can single him out as the cause for last nights defeat.
What I cant understand, is why lessons were not learnt from the Crawly game at the weekend, when we came out cold and effectively lost the game in the first twenty minutes.
We started very slowly again last night and were a bit like rabbits in the headlights for the first ten minutes.
I thought Stevenage were poor tbh and these are the sort of sides we should be picking up points against.
One plus point from last nights game was the performance of Matty T....easily our MOM and what really worries me is if he continues to perform like he did last night, he'll soon be on the radar of other Clubs come January.!

Nicholls is a poor shot stopper, surely he must be dropped now! Pulled off a good save 2nd half, great shot heading for left corner. I know and to be fair it was a good save! But he gets beaten far too often by shots that should be saved comfortably. Take the Chesham one for example!

Take the Chesham one for example! I really don't think he stood a chance with either last night. Chesham? Perhaps. But last time Mildy played he looked slow, unfit and not match sharp.

Lines was brought in as much because Sinclair was injured for much of the promotion run in - not sure it was about Mansell.
