Apparently including the GK coach we are spending £200k per annum on goalkeeping - this needs to be addressed - as for mildy i like him and trust him to do a good job but i think DC knows he can't afford him and if a "contract trigger" is in place needs a replacement asap - UTG!

[quote author=" kylegas " we can't continue with one keeper We have 2 keepers. Or have you forgotten Preston?. Preston is an untried kid, not sure I'd feel happy to see him replace Mildenhall on Saturday if he was injured or sent off at any point during the game. Assuming Puddy is out for a while then we either need back up for Mildenhall or a new No 1, possibly it's easy to sign a new No 1 on loan than expect somebody to join us and just sit on the bench?? Martin Thomas was younger than Preston when he made his debut. And he is in my opinion the best keeper to play for us. I dont really see what the problem is.

That's a big statement to make given that Nigel Martyn is the best player I've seen in a Rovers shirt. Wish I'd seen Thomas play.

Nigel was a great keeper, but Martin was even better. Of course this is only one mans opinion.

I'd like to see Preston in goal, I haven't seen him play so would be nice to see if he's any good.

Surely spending even more on another loan goalie is madness if that figure is anywhere near correct? I can't see Mildenhall can trigger another extension having already triggered one last season?

We need a new keeper, ideally a permanent one. Mildenhall in goal week-in, week-out would ruin any chance of play offs or better.
Happy New Year to ALL Gasheads !!

Wasn't Martin untried in the league coming from several leagues lower ? and if Nicholls is all we can get then tried or not I would prefer to give Preston a chance, its the only way we will see if he is good enough, after all how is he to get experience Martin was probably in his early 20's so slightly different to throwing a teenager into 1st team action? As ever we just have to trust DC to make the right call.

Puddy's definitely the most "modern" keeper we currently have, regarding distribution and rushing out etc. which is what I think Darrell is aspiring to. Whilst Mildy is a good solid no nonsense keeper, well hopefully still is...
Preston has looked promising but far from the finished article in the, admittedly very limited, matches I've watched him in.
My opinion is Darrell prefers sweeper keeper types that can play us out from the back, hence why he told Mildy back in August he didn't feature in his plans; as opposed to any contract/finances conspiracy theories.

I didn't think our attacking play suffered at Dagenham or Orient due to Mildy's so-called "distribution problems". To my mind your priority in a goalkeeper is someone who keeps the ball out of the net and inspire confidence in his fellow defenders.

Agreed thought he was excellent against Orient, although you have conveniently overlooked the Wimbledon match? Although before he was dropped last season and this season he wasn't either keeping the ball out of the net or inspiring any confidence. Having said that Milders can't be the first goalie in world to lose form for a period of time?

What I want to know is why is a player, who made less mistakes on the pitch in the last two games than any other player, getting more scrutiny of his performance?
If you are the darling of the masses, you can nearly hit the corner flag with a shot or hit empty space with a pass with no one within 25 yards and still get applauded, while on the other hand the keeper attempts one punch and has "lost it", his days are behind him, he's ready for the knackers yard etc etc ad nauseum
