Do they need to declare any interests? I often wonder! Me too! Howard Webb is a Roterham fan for example. What is stopping him being allowed to ref one of their games otherwise? The complexities are mind boggling. I am sure we all have a number of irrational hatreds and prejudices no interview would ever tease out but I know they'd surface in the heat of the moment. I guess that's why it's £100k salary for a few hours work a year!

He used to live in my road in kingswood. He hasnt got an official affiliation as he has officiated us in the past but he hates poo I am not sure if you understood the meaning of affiliation as used in my post? All referees must be affiliated to a football association. www.thefa.com/my-football/referee/frequently-asked-questionsNo i meant he doesn't officially say hes a rovers fan but he does prefer us!

Me too! Howard Webb is a Roterham fan for example. What is stopping him being allowed to ref one of their games otherwise? Just the fact that he's retired from refereeing. Yes I am aware of that.

Lee trains with Rovers, although he's coming back from injury at the moment. He is very good mates with Mark McChrystal, sometimes see them together at my golf club, where Lee is a member. Love the title of this thread - expecting the EP to run an expose story by tomorrow! You own a golf club . You never mentioned that before. it's a 3 Wood.

Yes I'm sure referees have to declare any conflict of interest, though of course there's little or no way of regulating this in practicality.

I've always wondered this too. Even if i'm watching a game between two sides I have absolutely no connection whatsoever with, i'll always find a reason to prefer one of the sides. Don't think I could possibly be impartial and I often wonder how tough it must be to be completely fair and not view things favourably for a certain team every now and again...
Then consider that to be a referee you presumably have an interest in football, so to referee a match which will to an extent affect 20 different teams (in the prem) its almost impossible to be completely impartial.
