Looking at the next 5 games it would appear that we are now entering our most difficult run of games which says to me that how we get through this run of games can determine whether this season is a chase for the automatics, a chase for the Play Offs or a mid table finish. To be serious automatics (which I don't think we are at this time) I believe we need to get 10 points from this run. Play offs 7 or more and anything less mid table-8th.
Personally unless we have an influx of quality and particularly a targetman (Gaffney or similar) soon I think we will struggle to get more than 6 points from these games. Barnet were there for the taking last Saturday and IMO the failure to secure a striker quickly lost us three points. Having watched Oxford play Swansea I really can't see us getting anything from this game and a point would be a fantastic result. They have so much pace and energy and probably the best player in this division in Rofe and I think if we go into this game with wingbacks then we will get destroyed as they will get in down the flanks. Our best hope is to go at them with a flat back four.
I have entered every game pretty well this season thinking we can win and looking at our fixtures after the next 5 I think we can look at all our remaining games that way. Strangely I don't have any worries at home now but I worry that our away form is going to be the problem. I don't honestly see us getting a result at either Oxford or Portsmouth but the other games in the next 5 are winnable although when did we get a positive result at Accrington!!
What do others think? How much do you think it depends on our transfer activity or how many think that we have the squad now that can be successful?

Id say wingbacks is the best option, match them for pace and hit them on the break. Although saying that I'd take a 0-0 draw right now! Should be good day with nearly 2,500 vocal Gasheads in attendance!

I think DC may well pack the midfield to stop the runners and hope to get them on the break
Maybe a 3 man centre midfield with maybe James Clarke on the right side and a standard back 4

It's a tough month but we could lose every game this month and still make the play offs so I don't think it will shape anything, all the top teams are playing each other, and Portsmouth have to go to Barnet as well which has proved to be a tough place for most, everyone will probably have a patchy month, but looking at the fixtures we have a very winnable couple of month in March and April, 2 months of potential high points return will shape our position far more than the next 3 weeks of potential low, but I do think recruitment will play a massive part yes, sooner we replace Gaffney the better

We'll still play wing backs. That way DC can pack the centre with Mansell, Sincs and Lawrence. that tho leaves us lacking pace in there so....
He may even take the game to them, they must be expecting teams to come there looking for a point/counter attack? could well surprise them?

I'm more confident about the Oxford game than I was before we played Barnet, and I still think we'll get a draw or win on Sunday.
It's quite a nice, wide pitch at the Kassam, so I'd be tempted to stick with the 3-5-2 and use the wingbacks to try and stretch them. I also think DC will want to play 3 CMs in this game.
Agree with the OP though, it will give us an indication of where we are as a team after this tough little run we have coming up. If we're still in the top 7 and have strengthened the squad this month, we'll be looking strong.

Thanks Steve, agree with much of what you wrote.
At the start of the season I did a rough prediction of each of our games which resulted in us gaining 84 points come May. Based on previous seasons that would have placed us between 2nd and 5th. To date, we are 2 points shy of my estimate at this stage of the season.
Personally I expect the current top three to stay there with the play off places being 4 from 9 (just a gut feeling, nothing scientific).
Of course, new signings will change this. It depends who does best out of the transfer window and subsequent loans.

I would say that smash and grab plus devon and carl saunders for a start up front , with Harold and Kenny stephens on the wings , stuart taylor Frankie prince and Lindsey parsons , jocky and nigel mmartin would suffice

I agree this is a critical point of our season. If we can take points off teams around us then we will be in a really strong position going into the spring.
Argyle have sold out their allocation for when they come up, I'm really looking forward to that game. Should be a great atmosphere and a great game of football.

Personally I'd go 4-4-2 and play Montana and Bodin on the other side, Clarke and Mansell in the middle, the back 4 the usual back 4. On the bench Sinclair and Lines, ready to come on in the second half. Lets have a go at them. Let them worry about us rather than us worry about them.

We are due a bad run eventually. Everyone generally has one eventually. I just hope we don't go into meltdown when it inevitably happens. Playoffs would be a massive achievement after the last 4 of 5 years.

Playoffs would be a massive achievement after the last 4 of 5 years. Expecially with basically the same squad of players that finished runner-up in the Conference. DC is an absolute genius. A god amongst mere mortals. Or - according to Tboner - clueless

I think the last 5 games or so of the season could also be very, very interesting.

Yeah I'd much rather have a go at them with Sinclair starting, you'd have to cut Sinclair's legs off for Ollie to start ahead of him anyway
