With the shops starting to stock up on cream eggs, and Matty Taylor missing a chance with the goal at his mercy (again), is it time for Easter?
I know he divides opinion a bit, but Easter's looked hungry to me when he's been given the chance lately. He's never going to be prolific, but he does have a touch of class.
I also think MT could benefit from some bench time, he's a little too sure of his place atm.

This is definitely an opinion divider.
On the one hand you have Matty Taylor who is our top scorer this season but seems to need 5 chances to score one goal. I was discussing his glorious missed opportunity in the 2nd half yesterday with the people around me. That's consecutive games that Gaffney has put it on a plate for Taylor and twice that Taylor has cocked it up. Had yesterday's gone in we would surely have won the game. However, he does do a lot of running around and work in the attacking third which does add value.
As for Easter, I have a lot of time for him. I can see that he is Championship standard. He holds the ball up well, rarely loses possession, plays the way he is facing so cuts out the losses of possession by trying to be too tricky with fancy twists and turns. He has a lot of positional sense also. If Easter had the same chances in front of goal as Taylor gets, I'm sure Easter would score more. However, his main problem is speed, he just doesn't have it anymore.
So I'm undecided which I prefer. What we actually need is a striker that has a mixture of the best qualities of each of them. That's my opinion anyway.

Yes Taylor missed a lot of chances but he will always score more as he's great and getting into those scoring positions. Easter does hold up the ball but he always takes too many touches and slows the attack down. He's a good squad player for us in our current position but Championship standard? You've got to be having a laugh!

There is no way in the world that you can justify calling Taylor great,

Both Easter and Taylor cause defences problems, but I would suggest one difference is that we might struggle to get a full 90 mins out of Easter regularly. He had an impact yesterday and he will often be used for the last 30.
On the other hand, his hold up play is very good and I could see the value of starting with Easter and putting Taylor on for the last 30 or 40 to challenge a tiring defence.
We have seen how Darrell has changeD the outcome of games with 2nd half substitutions and tactical changes. I find it really encouraging that we have such a strong bench that is used to good effect. Bodin is anot her example, and my belief is that his tricky feet have greater impact from the Ben h than starting.

Matty T was bound to get found out eventually. Opposition managers wouldn't be doing their job right if he didn't get extra attention. Both he and especially Gaffney were very well marked yesterday. Gaffney was in the pocket of his opposite number who ruffed him up and aggressively outplayed him. Gaffney does look good with ball at feet though and fortunately we are much better at finding feet these days.

If you want to make your mind up on Easter, try watching him all the way through the warm-up.
I've done this twice now when I've been at the ground early enough, once pre-xmas and once post-xmas and if he puts the same effort into daily training as he does in the warm-up I can see why he's not picked more often in the first XI...

That's not how it works though is it? Pulling a come face doesn't mean you are trying any harder than the next man. Apparently le tiss was awful in training.

We'd get nowhere near that for Taylor given his contract situation and the fact he's only played six months at FL level.

Don't believe it myself either. I was thinking if he left this month £50k. £100k at the very most.

If we were playing any team other than Accrington next week I'd suggest Easter was given a start, however, I imagine Accy's CB's will make yesterday's No 6 look mild mannered and the pitch will be like a veg patch, so I'd given Taylor another chance next week. Plus there's always the chance Easter is really only fit enough for 20 mins each match?
Although if Taylor's going to leave before the summer then surely he'll have to go before Saturday??
