I'd be VERY surprised if Taylor goes during this transfer window.

With the shops starting to stock up on cream eggs, and Matty Taylor missing a chance with the goal at his mercy (again), is it time for Easter? I know he divides opinion a bit, but Easter's looked hungry to me when he's been given the chance lately. He's never going to be prolific, but he does have a touch of class. I also think MT could benefit from some bench time, he's a little too sure of his place atm. He will be sold soon so not a problem Rumour at the ground yesterday was £850,000.... gulp nobody's gona pay that for a player whos contract runs out in the summer. barcelona wouldn't get that for messi if his contract as up in 5 months !

Messi would go for 30+ mil if he had 5 months left, clubs jumping the gun to get him. But 850k is ridiculous for Taylor, we wouldn't get anywhere near that for him. I'd guess at maybe 200k

Matty T was bound to get found out eventually. Opposition managers wouldn't be doing their job right if he didn't get extra attention. Both he and especially Gaffney were very well marked yesterday. Gaffney was in the pocket of his opposite number who ruffed him up and aggressively outplayed him. Gaffney does look good with ball at feet though and fortunately we are much better at finding feet these days. Agree with you although I thought we played too much long ball yesterday. Still think Gaffney and Taylor did well without getting that good service.

There's no wat Matty T is on his way out unless someone else is on the way in (queue the chorus for Tubbs!).
DC was very clear in an interview as the transfer window opened. He will be p!ssed right off if he loses any of his players - it was clear that would not be his choice.
However, if someone has bid 850K - we should take their hand off and get ourselves an adequate replacement at less than half the price!

If you want to make your mind up on Easter, try watching him all the way through the warm-up. I've done this twice now when I've been at the ground early enough, once pre-xmas and once post-xmas and if he puts the same effort into daily training as he does in the warm-up I can see why he's not picked more often in the first XI... That's not how it works though is it? Pulling a come face doesn't mean you are trying any harder than the next man. Apparently le tiss was awful in training. If you can pick a pass or score a goal like Le Tissier could then as far as I'm concerned you can waltz through training and the warm-up puffing on a cigar. If you're playing at this level for Bristol Rovers, no matter how much talent you have, you must put in the effort too. I'm not saying this is the reason he doesn't get starts under DC, but it's the reason he wouldn't get starts under me...

people around me at the game where talking about it - don't believe it myself - should be £1m lol For a first time 4th division player who has 5 months left on his contract..? Don't believe it myself either. I was thinking if he left this month £50k. £100k at the very most. £100k would be less than the cost of not getting in the playoffs so its just bad business accepting that for him. He is worth more to us if he plays the rest of the season at Rovers and goes for nothing in the summer - and if we get promoted he may well sign a new contract with us.

My original point was about the warm-up drills I've watched. So off the pitch I see approx 25% less effort than most other members of the squad.....on the pitch I've not seen 25% more quality than other members of the squad so far...

This is definitely an opinion divider. On the one hand you have Matty Taylor who is our top scorer this season but seems to need 5 chances to score one goal. I was discussing his glorious missed opportunity in the 2nd half yesterday with the people around me. That's consecutive games that Gaffney has put it on a plate for Taylor and twice that Taylor has cocked it up. Had yesterday's gone in we would surely have won the game. However, he does do a lot of running around and work in the attacking third which does add value. As for Easter, I have a lot of time for him. I can see that he is Championship standard. He holds the ball up well, rarely loses possession, plays the way he is facing so cuts out the losses of possession by trying to be too tricky with fancy twists and turns. He has a lot of positional sense also. If Easter had the same chances in front of goal as Taylor gets, I'm sure Easter would score more. However, his main problem is speed, he just doesn't have it anymore. So I'm undecided which I prefer. What we actually need is a striker that has a mixture of the best qualities of each of them. That's my opinion anyway. He's a good tactical switch too. Bring him on when defenders are comfortable with Taylor's play and it forces them into errors. He's won the odd pen and scored as a late sub, a bit like Harrison.

On recent form Taylor's hardly going to guarantee us a Play off place? Selling MT for £100K and getting in Tubbs & AN Other may well be good business.

Players are not the best people to ask about injuries, they always imagine they will be fit long before they actually are,I know from personal experience that when I was an apprentice footballer I had severe groin pain after every game but never said anything about it,.It was only when I was released at 21 and went for a medical at another club that they found I had a torn adductor in the groin that would not then heal without an operation and no club would look to take on a youngster and pay for the op in the hope he would regain fitness just said that to back up my original cpmment

Especially as Harrison may miss mos rest of the season First you try giving out false information that you were told he signed till the end of the season. Now, after it was in the papers yesterday he is out for 2-3 weeks, your saying the rest of the season again. I don't get it.

I find talk of Taylor making a big money move in January Hilarious, as well as talk of him moving to the championship this month, I don't think so. If he continues to improve he might get there eventually, but he is not good enough right now. As for the actual topic of the thread, I don't think it would hurt to much to drop him for Easter and see how that pans out, knowing Matty he'll come off the bench and score then lol
