Average points total for 7th place is 71 points. We have 47 points from 30 games. We need just 24 points from 16 games to hit the target. With home games against the likes of H'pool, Crawley, Yeovile & Daggers I can see no reason we can't win 7 out of 9 home games. We're more than capable of picking up away points against the likes of York, Stevenge & Newport. The cup is still half-full. UTG

Well, I predict 74 points will be required to get to the play offs this season.

Well, I predict 74 points will be required to get to the play offs this season. I agree, it's very, very tight this year. I was going to say 75 points. It's not impossible, we are more than capable of doing it but we need to be a whole lot better than yesterday. Our run in isn't too scary so we could easily creep in the back door in the last couple of weeks. It's far from over

This season the league is stretched out - the bottom 4/5 have really struggled so therefore the top teams are picking up lots of points - think we'll need more than 71.
I reckon Northampton, Plymouth, Oxford, Pompey and Accie will be in top 5 , then it's going to be a battle for the 2 remaining places - with us, Wycombe, Mansfield, Wimbledon and Orient scrapping for it.
Let's hope we can win almost all our games against the bottom 8 teams - am confident now as we have a goalscorer like Gaffney and Taylor in support.

I don't usually condone people leaving early, but don't blame any that did. Having said that, plenty stayed and our support was brilliant when we conceded, belting out Goodnight Irene.

I did a home made result predictor and yesterday did little to change my thoughts except realise it is definitely play offs. My prediction come May is ;
Northampton 95 Plymouth 89 Oxford 85
Accrington 84 BRFC 81 Portsmouth 74 Orient 73
Carlisle 72 Wycombe 72 Mansfield 69 Wimbledon 66 Cambridge 66
I have Portsmouth having a few draws in March while we win our home games. That said the points score is indicative only and so much will change between now and May. Still too close to call.

What makes you confident as Gaffney's not scored since he signed for us and Taylor hasn't scored this year? As far as only needing 24 pts, if we'd won yesterday we'd still be dreaming of a top 3 place as things stand now we've got to find a win from somewhere to get our top 7 push back on track.

I'll guess 76 points will be needed for 7th position. So 9 wins 2 draws and 5 losses would be the requirement.Confident that we will achieve that as a minimum. 4 points from the last 4 difficult games is disappointing but we only got 1 point from the reverse fixtures so we have improved if you take the results at face value.

I think we can make the play offs but win them is another story. I suppose you never know because it's a cup semi but if we come up against Pompey we might well get outclassed and well beaten again and if we come up against Accers we'll have to find a way of not losing 1-0 in both legs. If I've definitely learned one thing this weekend it's that 4-4-2 away against the top sides isn't the way forward.

Would this be such a disaster if we'd have beat Wimbledon and still been 4th right now? I think not, it was a bad game that we got wrong, but there are plenty more that we're gonna get right, and we've got strikers that are over due to score goals, and score them they will, wins are coming, just be ready to enjoy them. It's doable, and with the run in there's a real chance to build momentum before the POs if we do make it.
Play like we did yesterday though and we'll get beat - by most teams in this division.

Top 7 is definitely achievable.
We've had a tough run recently, playing 4 teams in and around us. It hasnt been a complete disaster, we've managed to win and draw 2 out of the 4 games.
Lets forget about Saturday, dust ourselves off, move on and go again.
