From the Bristol Post
DARRELL Clarke has been pleased with the backing he has received from supporters since it was confirmed he would be given the opportunity to try to lead Bristol Rovers back into the Football League at the first attempt.
Clarke has been given the green light to rebuild the squad in the aftermath of relegation from the Football League and recently outlined his plans when answering questions directly from supporters on a local radio phone-in show.
The manager was received warmly by those he spoke to on the night and his words have served to offer cause for optimism.
He said: "It was good to get the chance to speak directly to some of the supporters and to answer some of their questions.
"I've had a lot of messages of support from fans who have been wishing me good luck and that has been encouraging.
"It is important that there is a good relationship between the manager and the supporters at any club if you want to be successful. We will obviously have our ups and downs, but we all want the same thing.
"I will always be honest in my assessment of how my team is performing because the supporters know exactly what they are watching."
Clarke, meanwhile, will shortly embark on a summer recruitment campaign that is likely to see the arrival of more than ten new players, after deciding to release 12 of last season's squad in the aftermath of relegation.
"I have had several agents offering me a lot of players in the last fortnight," said Clarke. "There have been a few names that are potentially interesting and I have also got my own targets in mind.
"I don't think I'd like to put a definitive number on how many players we will be signing. As far as transfer business goes, I like to keep my cards very close to my chest, but we will be busy."
When asked when he might make his first signing, he replied: "I don't want to put times and dates on it, but all I would say is that I'd like to have the majority of the squad in place by the time we return for pre-season on June 30."
