As our new Chairman said yesterday, the UWE is in a great location alongside Hewlett Packard etc and its not just about a Saturday afternoon income and a great Commercial 7 day opportunity will be opened up for us. Remember these new owners make their money not only through their banking interests but by owning hotels, restaurants and tourism. They clearly are light years ahead of the Bradshaws of this world. This is what a few of us have been banging on about for the last six months.
There was a "bigger picture" at the UWE site, it was never just about the stadium.

Surely what attracted our new owners to the club over any other club for sale in Europe was the attraction of what the UWE could bring to the club? What logic is there in them starting from scratch trying to get idiots like Radice & Carstairs allow planning permission for redevelopment at the Mem? Even if they did there's still the fact there's no car parking facilities, the nearby train stations etc, etc.
One question nobody seems to have asked so far is what are their plans for the Mem when we eventually move out, have the new owners seen potential in the site NH has never appreciated?

I did wonder what the situation is with the hotel that was slated to be built opposite the stadium. If that hasn't been settled yet, perhaps the Al-Qadis will try to leverage that with the stadium build.

Thanks Daniella, don't call us, we'll call you. The locals in the area have made it pretty clear we are not welcome and yet they also want to do everything they can to stop us leaving. That's a special kind of hatred for us! Probably time to leave then. Not bashing new stadiums, certainly in rovers' case it could be what propels you ahead of city, in terms of revenue, so it doesn't matter what it looks like or the south gloucester location - but nonetheless, it is a shame that the area will lose the club - it was what I liked about the place, that you have the cricket ground and rovers and endless pubs in the centre of a residential area - that sort of thing will not be replicated and Bristol loses a bit of character for it. Ah well - I shall have to comfort myself knowing that new housing on the mem site will have to bring a new school and put my house price up. Yeah, I understand that. I guess I've just had enough of how negatively we've been dealt with by ROSE/TRASH/Radice. I've never felt welcome by the locals there so I'd ask you to forgive my cynicism.

You will recall the new Chairman mentioning about it may be necessary to bring in a partner for UWE.
I gather, the new Owner and Chairman know some of the original Consortium, they all work in the same circle business wise, may they be brought in as a partner?

Ah cheers. I've been following this forum for a long time now and its funny, all football fans are exactly the same. So as an official outsider who is happily commenting on your club, I think this new owner is terrific news, they clearly have their sights set on the prem, but aren't being d*ckheads and trying to win the fans over with talk of 5 year plans - the Villa were described once by Randolph Lerner as having a proud history and a bright future, and a 5 year plan was put in place to get us champions league but actually has delivered championship league. Nope, the new bloke at rovers sounds legit, and clearly wants to make some money, which with a little investment, he will. It used to be that to make a small fortune in football you had to start with a big fortune, but actually, if you can get to the prem, you just have to not be sh*t, and you will rake it in. Nobody told Randolph this sadly.

Unbelievable last 24 hrs,now it's all sunk in and plenty of talk of a new stadium and the new owners in place would it be better to redevelop the mem? Is the Uwe still the best option/location for our new ground? Or is there another option/location that might be better suited now we have new owners? I'm just not feeling the uwe(souless out of town ground) thing! Hardly out of town is it . we'll just not be under city of bristol jurisdiction

The prospect of being able to drive from Devon and get to the games without having all the trouble of finding parking will encourage me to come more often A new stadium is a fantastic after supporting the Gas at our previous stadiums is really exciting.
As for the Mem we dont know the outcome of the appeal yet Just maybe we might win it Double bonus

Yep. I think he said they'd had meetings with UWE and would have more 'to see if everything's right' or something like that. If not, they will look for another option. I suspect it will be at UWE but with a few changes around any deal done with the university and what's on offer. They are proven businessmen at international level and he went to Harvard. I'd say he knows which way is up.

When talking to an estate agent at show house on the new estate adjacent to the uwe I was told the infrastructure has a wetherspoons identified (once enough houses are populated) - that'll do for me!

Fellas, I am gatecrashing your good news, because as a life long Villa fan, we haven't a single positive thing to talk about currently. I also own a house opposite the mem and was on the west country news about 4 years ago doorstepped in my dressing gown by a local reporter saying that I liked the mem and it should stay. Anyhoos, I still retain a lot of affection for the Gloucester Road and for the mem - and I know it isn't your original ground, but it would be a shame if BS7 lost your club. I know why the UWE is inevitable, BUT, I can't help feeling that the mem site has a ton of character and the Gloucester Road is great before and after the game, whereas at UWE you will be a captive audience forced to buy their over priced weak lager. And you also have the train station coming back to Ashley Down in the not too distant future. As a lifelong bristolian to me glos rd is just a road, it's not a town centre a phrased coined by rich little non bristolian asshats, glos road alway has and always will be a shithole, there are not many good shops on it, more trendy little food shops than there should be, the only reason non rovers supporting people want the club there is because of the money generated by the fans, a lot of locals opposed the original plans to extend the ground, and the very same two faced hypocrites, complained about the plans for a shameburies, but are overjoyed by a lidls or aldi coming to the old ford place on muller rd. If we move and many businesses go bust on glos rd, then tough sh** it just proves that those who opposed us were also coning the very same people. If i had my way i would make it into a temporary traveller, gypsy site on one bit, hey and as you are all so green a recycling centre, and an unregulated temporary campsite for refugees, as lets face it most of your green buddies love this sort of thing. You mention a train stop at ashley down, why waste money on that, oh i know so the wicked with of the west doesn't have to walk to far to get a train, well hello there is a train station in montpellier which give or take a few feet will be the same distance from the mem that ashley down would be oh and that one is already there but if that was used more the dopey mare from the greens wouldn't get any fake applause from her sycophantic hangers on would she. Still you carry on like others remember you may own a few bricks and mortar on a street but that is all you don't own the area, you don't own the space out the front in the road. You certainly don't have the right to try and tell us we should stay. You say you openly opposed the shameburys, did you also previously oppose ground expansion, you love the vibe and feeling of matchday, you then say(or should it be softly gloat) that it isnt our original ground(well screw me with a wet fish called dave i and every other gashead never knew that what an interesting fact) and it would be a shame if BS7 lost the club, is that the same people who have whined and opposed not only the club coming there but now leaving if your that concerned where the feck were you all the while we have been struggling, how much have you paid the club for evidently entertaining you on home days and nights, probably nothing, but now there's a chance we might be off soon ,everyone comes a crawling with bullcrap tales of we want you to stay. Yes the uwe may be a soulless bowl with warm lager, but the drink also sums up those crappy little trendy bollock joints on glos rd ,overpriced crap vile food ,warm drinks, two faced money grabbing owners(not all but the majority) The main difference is this at uwe we will be paying our beer money to the club not some scabby little business who want peoples money on matchday but still whine about us behind closed doors.
So yup people like yourself have got the false utopia that non bristolians think is a trendy up and coming town centre, well it's yours pay over the odds for sh**e produce, carry on slamming each others dicks in the doors whilst you proudly proclaim your green identity whilst crying inside and blaming us because you suddenly have to pay more to keep those shops open on your fake town centre.
Yes i think you may have twisted my nipples a tad. Villa fan what the feck are you doing living in bristol

Short of buying the land from IKEA and building a magnificent Eastville II, it's hard to think of anywhere better than the UWE site for a new stadium.

For me the Mem has never been our home, it's where we play our home games. Eastville was our home and we now have an opportunity to build a new home & I hope we move to the UWE site asap ! All this talk of its part of Bristol's character & has soul etc, is b******ks and its this type of attitude that has kept Bristol in the dark ages in terms of development. As a previous poster put it 'we are not wanted there, but they don't want us to leave', the Trash & Greens of this world would love to have us rattling around in a run down stadium with 3 - 4000 every other week just to boast a village football team! A new stadium will be what we make it, we can put the soul into the place, and make it our home.
