On average gets 3rd place and how many on average gets 7th place?
Anyone have any clue? Can't be bothered to research!
Because the league this year is real tight is it likely the average will be higher or lower?

Because the league this year is real tight is it likely the average will be higher or lower? Going by the last 5 seasons 82 points has been enough to secure 3rd and 71 points should be enough to secure 7th.... However this season has been a bit of a weird one with a few of the lower table teams being awful and the top of the table teams playing very well it might be different this season and it's probably best to wait until the end of march to see how many points a team will need to secure playoffs and top 3

Don't know about the average but last season Bury finished 3rd with 85 points & Plymouth 7th with 71points.

I looked over the past 5 seasons:
3rd place points were: 80,84,78,81,85.
7th place points were: 69,72,69,71,71.
divided them by 5 which came out as.
3rd place: 80.6 so rounded it to 81.
7th place: 70.4 rounded up as there was only 2 seasons where a team finished below 70 points so it made sense to go by likelihood rather than the rule of if it's .5 or higher.
what I think 3rd place and 7th place will need for points is slightly higher than the averages to be honest.
I think to get 3rd you will need somewhere around 84/85 points like last season to get 7th I think around 73/74 points should be enough.

Lazy f**ker!Last 10 seasons: 14-15 3rd place 85 points 7th place 71 points 13-14 3rd place 81 points 7th place 71 points 12-13 3rd place 78 points 7th place 69 points 11-12 3rd place 84 points 7th place 72 points 10-11 3rd place 80 points 7th place 68 points 09-10 3rd place 82 points 7th place 72 points 08-09 3rd place 78 points 7th place 69 points 07-08 3rd place 88 points 7th place 78 points 06-07 3rd place 85 points 7th place 71 points 05-06 3rd place 81 points 7th place 66 points Average 3rd place 82.2 points
Average 7th place 70.7 pointsSo we currently have 50 points from 31 games. So a possible 45 points from 15 games. We are averaging 1.86 points a game. That works out at 27.9 a game over the next 15. Based on this we should finish on 77 or 78 points. Actually think that we might need more for 3rd this season than 82 to be honest but isn't completely out of reach! Play offs look very doable although there is a bit of a gap with the top half and bottom half teams. If we go on the last 10 games we are averaging 1.7 points. This works out that we will get 25.5 points in our last 15 games which will put us on 75/76 points at the end of the season. Either of these would obviously be enough for the playoffs the past 10 seasons. 2 teams in the past 10 years have gone up automatically with 78 points.

Did one of those table predictors and we finished 6th on 80 points! Accrington finished 2nd and Plymouth 3rd on 90 points! We also lost 3 times in the remaining games!

We got 27 points from the 15 remaining teams in the reverse fixtures. That's interesting. A repeat of that would see us comfortably in the play off places.

We got 27 points from the 15 remaining teams in the reverse fixtures. That's an interesting stat, every stat seems to point to us not making 80

Would love to go to Wembley again but wonder if any team has won two playoff finals in a row?

Would love to go to Wembley again but wonder if any team has won two playoff finals in a row? Just checked since 1986-87 when the playoff system was first used, there has been no team that have won two playoff finals in a row.

Given there's just 4 pts seperating 7 teams, 8 if you inc Carlisle who still have at least one game in hand, fighting for 3 of the 4 play off places I doubt it matters what the average has been we just need to make sure we get the maximum return we can. Apart from Wimbledon no team in the top 12 as put more than a two match winning run together recently.

Would love to go to Wembley again but wonder if any team has won two playoff finals in a row? Clarke has won 3 play offs in his last 4 full seasons as a manager, I think - correct me if I'm wrong. You need a bit of luck to do that, so if we make the play offs again I am not too hopeful, just by the law of averages!

Surely the reserve logic is true, if anybody's going to win the Play Offs it would be DC with that type of record? Although getting there in the first place would be nice!

DC announced 25 wins was the target at the start of the season. That gives us 80 points + any draws we would get from the remaining 5 fixtures...
Can we win 10 from the last 15 games?

I'll raise you with the experience of last season's play off final being a magnificent benefit to us experience wise. A play off final in this league would have so much less pressure than last season and we coped with it then.
