Now don't laugh, but I think there's a bit of the Mustapha Carayol about Cristian Montano. Out on the wing, willing to take on the FB and pace to get past him; and generally a good crosser of the ball. And he 'knows where the net is'. I'd like to see him starting games.

I didn't go today but he obviously made an impact by scoring the goal and if he did play well then he deserves to keep his spot. Up until now he hasn't taken his chance, today it sounded like he finally did, I hope he keeps it up. To compare him to Carayol after one game though does seem a bit silly. Carayol was consistently good, Montano hasn't been.

If we'd just signed him on loan and this was his first game I could see the logic in comparison but he's been here for 30 games this season and has lacked any consistency even from match to match. Unless DC signs somebody on loan then surely he must start in the next two home games this week?

He has made about 19 appearances so far this season, admittedly mostly from the bench. I'm basing my opinion upon that evidence base.

I didn't think caryol was all that consistent, was in fine form second half of the season though. Thought montano has had good moments the games I've seen him, with luck he'll find his form for the run in!

Have been hoping he'd get his chance soon as think he genuinely deserves a chance. Has been dropped as a result of an ever changing formation and never given a genuine chance. Give him a run of games and he'll prove himself - got a cracking cross on him, and links with Browner way better than Lawrence.

Seems to be similar to Balanta in the sense that there was a little hype when he arrived but he's done nothing to really warrant a place in the side.
Oh what I'd do to have Carayol back!

Well I'm not laughing but it's a funny thing. I remember Carayol being absolute gash for the first half of the season before hitting some good form after Christmas and putting in some electric performances that caught the eye of, amongst others, the scouts of Middlesbrough. I don't remember him being particularly consistent but he definitely had a purple patch or three.
I think I agree with the OP, I think there's something of Carayol in Montano, but whether or not it's just the same wiry build, pace and dodgy facial hair, I don't know.

Certainly no Muzzy but seems like our most natural wide player. We look far more dangerous as 442 with him and Bodin than in a 352.

Carayol wasn't very consistent. He was constantly in and out of the team under Buckle. It was only when McGhee first took charge Carayol started performing. I can see a slight similarity.
