Okay, so I wasn't around to understand the history so please forgive my ignorance. I am confused about the forums past and present, so was hoping someone would be kind enough to answer my questions below.
Feel free to add any other info/context that you feel is relevant.
The other forum is "The Independent Forum". Is that because at one time there was a club run forum where freedom of speech was not allowed?
If that one is "independent", is this one not independent?
If this is not independent, who controls it?
If this is independent, why are there two forums?

There was an official forum.
They banned dissenters.
The dissenters made the Independent forum.
The club shut the OF.
We all went to the IF.
Many of us were not made to feel particularly welcome by the IF regs.
We made this forum.
There are now 2 forums.
The IF is the Guardian.
Gaschat is the Sunday Sport.
Room for both.

There was once a fans forum on the club website that club directors used esp Dunford and Spencer. As the boards relationship with fans became less positive an alternative forum was set up. The official forum shut due to the board no longer wanting to police it and the alternative forum kept getting threatend with legal action so shut. New mods took it on and created the independant forum and they tended to be interested more in the Politics of Rovers.
As the official forum shut some more lighthearted fans set this one up to talk about shagging animals mostly.

Thanks Hugo the Elder, I feel you have distilled a lot of history nicely into a handful of bullet points. I'm slightly concerned I'm more drawn to the Sunday Sport than The Guardian though!

This forum is fully independent too.
It was fully set up and run by a handful of us and is made brilliant by the contributions of all its members.
We all fall out from time to time but on the whole we don't do too bad.

This forum is run by The Illuminati, who are actually 12 foot shape shifting lizards. David Icke told me, so it must be true.

I agree there's room for both but I'm not sure about us being the Sunday Sport or them being the Guardian. I think there's a lot of sense spoken on both and a lot of rubbish but I found the other forum very depressing where as this one is more upbeat and less anti Rovers.

I was just trying to find a simple analogy to show the generally more light hearted nature of Gaschat.

I think to be fair to the club the OF wasn't too heavily moderated, apart from the odd mod who occasionally got power crazy banning forum users.

Basically following relegation from the football league I found the other forum and it made me feel worse than ever. It was around the time of our turn around that I found this forum , roughly October 2014 and we've been on a good run ever since. This isn't just a great forum it's also a kind of positive promotion bus like forum.

There have been at least two BRFC forums operating for at least the last 12 years or so.
