Good numbers there today. Impressive.
Like their ground...old school.
Ballsy management to change it so early but it made a big difference. (Sure some folk will seek to criticise DC in some way for having to change it but hey ho). Don't think anyone was great today but we did have some players who are comfortable with the ball....Bodin has skills which don't always come off, Easter looks good but not quite really good. Lawrence looks like he knows what to do but looks a little chunky (my Mrs words BTW). Really enjoyed the day and the match and can't find it in me to be down although clearly others can having just scanned the match day thread. I'm loving DCs work, his methods, his output and I personally feel glad to have him. Enough to not judge him constantly.
I don't know how things are going to end this season but at the start I wanted a play off push. Had that so happy. Would obviously love automatic or Wembley win but if we don't get either I do worry about the fickleness of some of our fans.
Anyway one game at a time. Bring on the Crawley.
UTG.

Glad you enjoyed the day that's the main thing...enjoyment.
A good following of just under 700 I believe....Ithink a Carlisle fan mentioned he thought it was the biggest away following there this season so far.
I did notice that on otib someone said it was rubbish as they took 1300 there in their promotion season.(2006/07) 1) that was league one not two 2) city were comfortably in 2nd place at the time and Carlisle were 8th. 3) it was city's last but one away game (3rd last game of season) 4) the Carlisle crowd was 10,000+ on the day so obviously a hyped up game.
It's like saying that 1300 is rubbish because rovers took 4000+ to Blackpoolthe promotion season from league one !
Rant over...sorry

Excellent post. I agree re fans expectations. We were at rock bottom at the start of last season, with non league football, mounting debts and a board seemingly incapable of balancing the books. Those were really worrying times. Even up to Christmas times looked bleak off the field. Now we appear to have a secure future and are sitting comfortably in a play off place in league 2. That is a massive turnaround, and yet if we don't get promoted there will be doom and gloom merchants a plenty. What will be will be, but we have reason to be very proud of our team. In 1988/89 we lost out in the play-offs. That could very possibly happen this year. The feeling around the club was still very positive. We then sold our two best players. The positivity remained. We then had the most glorious season in our history. Something similar could happen to us next year if we don't go up this time around. Or it might not. Or we might go up this year! Whatever will be, will be. The main point is that, like in 1989, we have a great team to represent us on the field, but unlike in 1989 we also have genuine reasons to think that we can move forward off the field. It should be a great time to be a gashead. So let's just bloody enjoy it!

We'll be there or there a outs com the end of the season, I just don't think my heart can handle playoffs I don't think the pressure will be as bad in a league 2 play off as it was last season. I don't think anything will ever be as high pressure as that again. IF we don't make the top 3 then we've still done great and we can be proud of our manager and team and go in to the play offs with our heads held high because we've exceeded most expectations. That's quite different to last season in that respect. And if we don't win promotion I'm confident we can push on next season add to the squad and do it next so the future looks good to me whatever happens between now and the end of May. For what it's worth I'm still confident of a top 3 finish anyway.

Get the defeat out of the way today and now let's get on another run which could possibly see us through, if not we now have the luxury to be able to build for next season !!! UTG!!!!!!!!!

7 games remain and we still have to play the bottom 4 teams, I'm still very optimistic Same here this team has proved time and again that we can bounce back! Can't believe some of the negativity being spouted on here tonight, this time last year we were bloody non-league and facing a huge cash flow crisis ! UTG!!!!

What can't be overlooked is Carlisle hadn't won in their previous 6 games, somewhere along the line we screwed up yesterday, let's hope we don't fall a point short come May.
As far as the 82'ers why are posters obessed with their away following, as beating that's not going to get us promoted?

I have a feeling we will make top 3 as well, and I'm never confident like that. I thinks it's down to the fact that we're able to come back into games after going down, something I havnt seen for a long time with the gas. Onward and upward.

Good original post and in agreement with a lot of it.
Had a really enjoyable day in Carlise, despite the result. For a neutral, it would've been 'an entertaining game', but for me, it showed our defensive frailties a bit too much. Last time we shipped 3 was at Portsmouth I believe, so if we can rectify that in the same way, we'll be fine. Lots of people (who didn't go), saying we missed Lockyer and whilst I believe we wouldn't have made the same errors with him, we didn't have him on Friday and kept a clean sheet.
I thought O Clarke looked weak in the first 15 mins, so was 50% happy with DC's ballsy double sub. However, it worked, so fair play. Actually thought Easter was class when he came on and was unlucky not to score. Also thought LL controlled the middle well, although between he and Lines we don't have a ball winner.
I really want Lines to be great for us, but he was so frustrating yesterday. He knows how to pick a good pass and I'm not denying his quality but whilst his heart may be in the right place, I'm not sure his head is. The majority of his passes are sideways or backwards, he doesn't tackle, he picked up a needless booking (whether the ref got that right or not, I don't know for sure), but after that he couldn't get anywhere near the Carlisle attackers, in fear of a second yellow. Chris Lines in L2 should be a cracking player, but in the games I've seen him play for us, I'm not certain what he adds.
Anyway, really not too disappointed with the defeat. Disappointed to have conceded three average goals, but the match officials' decisions (for both sides) really didn't help matters. We won 6 in a row prior to yesterday, so now let's go one better and try to win 7 in a row...
Top marks to the other 650 fans that travelled, it's a long way! On we go! UTG

UTG I think you're being a bit harsh on Lines there - I think he's been fantastic recently and I also include yesterday. I think he is adapting his ball winning side of the game well and improving every time I see him. I think we may just have to chalk it off as a bad day at the office unfortunately, in terms of performance in defence and in terms of luck going against us a bit.

At times the football between him, Lawrence and Easter was a joy to watch and we looked a very good side.

UTG We were lucky on Friday though to keep a clean sheet as Mildy made a good save with his feet in the first 5 mins then he made the outstanding save in the second half, there was also the incident when Clark passed the ball straight to a striker only to be rescued by his teammates. Given Lockyer is probably our Player of the Year so far, apart from possibly MT, then surely it's inevitable he'll be missed? Interestingly Parkes also played at Pompey!

It cost us a goal at Newport and caused us a few problems yesterday.
