So we move on to tomorrow with Northampton pretty well guaranteed promotion and the title and 12 teams fighting for the remaining 6 places that for two will guarantee Promotion and four will go into the Play Off lottery. In realistic terms it can be said that the present top 4 of those 12 barring an absolute miracle can be guaranteed a Play off spot at the least with the other 8 fighting for the other two places with Portsmouth probably guaranteed one.
Will tomorrows matches make anything much clearer? Well for Luton and Cambridge a defeat tomorrow or anything less than a win will probably be Play off hopes over because with only 5 games left a likely 8 point deficit on the final play off spot with a much inferior GD is pretty well curtains so that makes the Luton v Accrington fixture a very interesting one. It will be a massive surprise if Portsmouth don't win at Dagenham so in all honesty Portsmouth should still be in the chase for the automatics tomorrow night and their game against Plymouth the following weekend will be absolutely massive. Without trying to predict our result, a victory for us would certainly put us in an outstanding position going into our last 5 games as it is by far the most difficult fixture tomorrow and would see promotion remaining in our own hands. A draw will leave us a maximum of 2 points off the automatics so would be a good result taking into account our remaining fixtures whilst a defeat would not be a disaster with the worst scenario being 3 points off the automatics with Portsmouth (if they win at Dagenham ) breathing down our necks with 2 points behind but a game in hand and a superior goal difference. An Oxford win at Crawley looks very much on the cards which would see them 5 points ahead of us and probably out of reach as their GD would effectively put them 6 points ahead.
It will really make the last promotion spot interesting if there were defeats for us, Plymouth and Accrington and Portsmouth won at Dagenham leaving the four clubs looking
Bristol Rovers P 41 Pts 71
Plymouth P 41 Pts 71
Accrington P 41 Pts 71
Portsmouth P 40 Pts 69
The following games will all affect the 12 clubs battling it out.
Barnet v Leyton Orient
Carlisle v Mansfield
Crawley v Oxford United
Dagenham v Portsmouth
Luton v Accrington
Newport v Cambridge
Northampton v Bristol Rovers
Plymouth v Wimbledon
Yeovil v Exeter
York v Wycombe
Whatever happens tomorrow it is clear that a 3 point deficit is the most we will be away from the automatics and with our games left we should still be in the running at least for a few more weeks.
Lets get right behind the boys tomorrow because a win tomorrow could be a pretty big step forward and could open a gap our way and keep the pressure on Oxford come tomorrow night. UTG
