Good news. He's an excellent player, similar to Gary Mabbutt in many ways. He will go far and unfortunately will go to a bigger club in a season or two. Now whilst I am glad that Lockyer has signed a new contract I cant see how he can be compared to Gary Mabbutt,Gary was playing in the 2nd division (championship) and when he moved to Totts he was playing in the England team within months.

You cannot see the level headed young man who is capable of reading the game at a young age, mature beyond his years in comparison to others? Let alone the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch? Gary Mabbutt was a different level altogether really but the similarities are there. For me anyway.

Gabbutt was before my time. But for me he's akin to Andy Tilson at his peak.
Crazy to think Locks is only 21. He's also got a bit more on the ball than Tilson.

I think this signing is fantastic. It shows intent, and along with browns signing it shows the belief the players have in the club. Utg

Fantastic news, Browner and Lockyer are the future, expect MT to move on, and if we go up, I am sure DC will want to bring in new faces, all good.UTG

We could be in the championship within three years and that will be his level I think, so why the need to move. Free holiday in Jordan and a pay rise= Happy days!

Surely Tilson was a Championship player when we signed him for big money, I can't see how you can compare a young Div 2 player to an experienced Championship player, best comparison for me would be Steve Yates when he was at Rovers.

I think that's a good point,DC realises that Taylor does a lot of work for the team even when he doesn't score, another manager might just see him as a goalscorer. I would like him to stay whether Rovers are promoted or not,not sure if he would be up to championship football though but if Rovers get there he would deserve a go at it.

Of course Lockyer can be compared to Tilson or anyone else who someone sees the similarities in playing styles with. We all know the `divisions` said players played in. And I thought Steve Yates played in the third division and championship with Rovers?!!

I agree. Yates was the best Gas defender I've seen. A great reader of the game and he had pace too. I see the comparison but Yates did it in all the leagues above where Lockyer is doing it now. Hopefully Tom will get the chance to emulate him with us.
