On a side note I think its Man City, on their first or last game of the season before kick-off they read out all names of fans who have died during the year. Maybe we could do something like that?

Great idea. Let's hope we get a 42nd minute goal as well to make for a perfect tribute.

Exeter only do minute scilence for fans at the end of season. I think it loses its personal touch done in that way.

I suspect I will be criticised for this but I think clapping in the middle of the game is wrong. A minutes silence or clapping before the game is one thing but once the whistle goes it should be 100% focus on the game. I hope the management DO NOT join in. Are you expecting the players to as well?
What if we concede in 42nd minute and that costs us promotion? That would not be the way to remember Paul.
If it happens, I will join in out of respect but I think it's wrong to be asking for this in the first place.

But heaven forbid some people have the audacity to actually clap at a football game and its wrong.

This has been done at other grounds for various reasons, and I've never been aware of it affecting what happens on the pitch at the time.
I will be joining in.

It's to honour a fellow gasheads life that has been cruelly taken away at the slender age of 42 hence the clapping in the 42nd minute. I don't mean to sound too harsh as its your opinion which you are fully entitled to but please, you didn't have to throw in the " are you expecting the players to as well " comment I find that hugely disrespectful to him and his family.

Good post, the op didn't say anything about the players or manager.

There's absolutely no disrespect at all. However, I think there are appropriate ways of honouring his memory, my view is that doing it during a game isn't appropriate on such a significant occasion. One poster specifically said he hopes the management join in. I hope they focus on the task at hand.

I find your comment about expecting the players to clap disrespectful as it comes across as extremely insensitive and sarcastic , it's a simple request by the guys family. I don't want to carry on this discussion out of respect to the deceased and his family.

I think it's l better to have a minute's silence or applause before the match. It's impossible to know what's going to happen at any particular point in the game which may distract people from paying their respects. That said, I will be taking part in the applause and hope we can secure a memorable win for Paul.
