Is the reason our defenders make so many mistakes is that they are always facing so much pressure, as we never hardly put any decent attacking moves together or put teams under pressure. Plus it always seems easier to defend a 1-0 lead, which for us never seems to happen away from home. Rubbish, the defending is awful. That is just a poor excuse. I've actually seen us try to play some intricate passing at times. We just lack a ball in the final third. When the defence is pumping the ball up to the strikers then it is going to come back to them quite often.

Think Ras and aghast both make good points, thing is though ras an awful lot of people dont understand the art of fishing and cant relate it to anyform of watching stalking and tactics, but aghasts picture fits in to the budget very well, did anyone else notice after the first game the team were back on the pitch after the final whistle, maybe for a warm down ,debrief, more training etc. Again we find ourselves with a newish team ,newish manager, signed relatively late in the season, lets just hope the team can gel quickly, short reply as off to the vets to get meself more meds Heard Graeme Souness say that it takes a team 6-10 competitive games to gel when there have been personnel changes in the close season.

I tend to look at it like if your in a job and almost everyone leaves, only a few of you are left, you ain't going to be bonding or acting as a team for a long while, the other problem is people are so fed up with what's happened for years now , that people myself included know instant results wont happen but cant help but kick off. after Saturday I've only just started to come back up and calm down, was listening to the game and Wendy just looked at me and said ahh, Can't help the way i react it's just the way my swede is programmed, again people seem to forget a player or two may never have played in front of large crowds, the way i look at it or try to explain it is public speaking at work your asked to do a talk at a team meeting, for some its easy for others it's an absolute mare, but then you are asked to deliver the same talk at a meeting involving the whole company, some can do it ,some cant , either way it takes a few goes to settle into the routine , relax and get comfortable doing it, anyway enough waffling now

If it was just a blip then the reaction would be more subdued but when we've had years of this sh** it boiled over after Saturday. They were just the unfortunate 11 who were on the end of it. Most of them have barely been here a month yet are taking the flack for other's failures.

Two things I will say in defence of Clarke, although I do think he has to start getting results soon: 1) Defensive errors. Have we actually conceded a goal yet which wasn't due to individual defensive errors? I'm not 100% sure what a manager is supposed to do about them, aside from drop the defender/s who are making them. They're schoolboy, even comical errors. Here's Saturday's goals for Altrincham below, if anyone has the stomach to watch them. 2) The whole 'preparation thing'. Going up on the morning of a game which is realistically 3/4 hours away for a club the size of BRFC is water poor. Yes, I know the 'big club' attitude doesn't apply in the Conference, but we are big enough to be professional. I saw Accrington going to Cheltenham on Friday afternoon, a club who has always operated using a much lower budget than us on much lower crowds. Professionalism is the only way we will beat part-time teams, and not staying overnight before preparing properly on the day is half of the reason we lost. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Point 2 is solely down to the board, and if it can't be sorted by them then I feel maybe the fans would have to raise the funds. Fecking appalling but it's true. Preparation is fundamental to getting results, and if we aren't professional about it then we may as well go part-time. I don't see point 1 as a valid ground for defending the manager. Defensive errors are usually forced. Barnets first goal built up from their own half so if the error is the keeper getting megged, I don't think that's fair. I guess it depends on what you seem an error? A striker out maneuvering(sp) a defender at a corner..... is that a well worked corner or a defender error, or both? There is a whole heap (walleep in patwa) of erroneous play by us atm , we are far from being competitive. That being said, I do feel sorry for DC as I did some of the others until they self destructed. Of the four goals conceded this season, I'd say all were attributed to avoidable defensive errors which professional footballers shouldn't be making. I don't think DC can really be blamed for it, maybe the first Barnet goal is down to selecting a slow defensive line but that's it. 1) Barnet's first goal involved Akinde being given time to run from the half way line (or near enough...), with 3 defenders not challenging him. No matter how 'pacey' the forward is, 3 defenders should be able to cut that out. Or at least try. 2) Puddy error for Barnet's second, though again the defenders weren't quick enough in preventing the follow up. 3) Altrincham's first - McChrystal header 4) Comical inability to clear the ball to seal our fate on Saturday. EDIT: What I'm trying to say is, I've not once seen a team 'carve us open' or create a goal which doesn't involve basic errors on our behalf.

My internet connection is poor so I havent read this whole thread but DC took us down.
I really believe JW would have got enough points to keep us up.
Pre season was awful.
The start to the season is shocking.
I just don't get the DC love in.

EDIT: What I'm trying to say is, I've not once seen a team 'carve us open' or create a goal which doesn't involve basic errors on our behalf. If you wanted to, you could almost always blame something else for a goal though. It depends on how far back along the passage of play you want to go. I mean, ultimately most keepers are annoyed at themselves for a goal going in.(Poor positioning, mis judgement of speed, flight, height, swerve, bounce. Poor decision) Often the keeper will lambast the defence. Sometimes a player will lose possession when the shouldn't-meaning that others are caught out of position. Now and again there is some luck. Occasionally there is some skill. At all levels, commentators will point out where so n so should have been or the line is too high or blah. It doesnt help me to analyse each goal that goes in against us, that is too micro imo. I believe there are larger issues afoot..... Do all of our players even know eachothers names? Have all of our players trained together for more than a week? Throughout all preseason and even up to now we have not fielded a settled 11 players. How on earth are these lads supposed to 'click'? Thats 1 issue. Basically poor preperation.

This is a great tread boys & girls. It is so nice to read a tread with no board bashing or bickering. This is what forums are all about ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

It was the tourets. (No offence intended to any sufferers of tourets or families or friends there of.) (Apologies in advance to anybody from any sexual persuasion or ethnic minority who may have been offended by my post.) (Id also like to offer an apology to the moderating team who work their socks off to regulate the forum from offensive outbursts like mine.)
I might have to make that a signature rather than type it out each time......

where darrell clarke has failed last season and this is the constant chop and change of players and formations ie 3-5-2,,4-4-2 4-3-3 ?? come on darrell get your formation and style of play sorted. in his defence how can you legislate for a reliable old pro like mark mcchrystal suddenly making shocking errors? he also has the well paid good young player ryan brunt looking as if maybe hes not fit and mobile and the option without him is 2 small guys. im sure mcchrystal will get his confidence and form back and i really hope ryan brunt is ok ,the management must know theres a problem with brunt or they wouldnt need another striker, what conference teams have 5 strikers?

Rich this season we need someone who knows about non-league football and we need to give Darrell time, we need stability and I think ne needs to do that on the pitch as well.Sometimes injuries can play a part in selection and I think defensively we are looking better slowly as the season goes on. I think he will get us up at the sharp end come the season end, if it's not this year then next.

Looks as though DC's plans may be gradually coming to fruition. Onwards and upwards!

Hopefully Clarke has won a few more over today. We looked a lot better but we need to find a way of scoring more goals and making fewer defensive mistakes. Saw a few positive signs but not won over on the basis of 30 minutes of good football. Its a start though.

Yeah, this draw has completely convinced me everything is bright.
Sir Alex would be proud to have bagged 4 points from such tough opening games.
Onwards and upwards!
