Maybe 20 years ago I would have said someone like Allardyce should never be let near the national team, but we've tried everyone else from all over the world, and it hasn't worked.
Perhaps Big Sam can shake some pride into the pampered few. To be honest I don't care how many long balls we play or how boring we are as long as we get some results at the next tournament. That might set us up to progress under a more modern younger manager in 4 or 5 years. I don't think Allardyce is a long term bet. More of a risky gamble, but he should be given a chance. Perhaps he isn't the long ball specialist some make him out to be, but sometimes plays that way because he generally hasn't had top 6 Premier League players to work with.
As you say, he can't possibly be any worse than we were in Brazil and France.

I will stick to my guns about hoddle ,he is still my first choice, however, I can see big Sam being a success with this current crop of players mainly due to the fact that he has worked with mediocre premier league footballers most of his career and got the best out of them and in my opinion our national team at this moment in time is like a premier league team that is constantly threatened with relegation and in that respect there is no better man for the job! Good luck Sam you're gonna need it .
