mildenhall 6.5 tidy game, couple of decent saves and handled well Lead bitter 6.5 kept Pedro pretty quiet after a torrid start.clearly under instructions to not cross the half way line. Lockyer 7 did well against an opponent with excellent strength and movement. Hartley 7 Another great header and battled hard all game. Brown 5 Poor fecker was destroyed by Moses.Still a legend though. O. Clarke 6 bypassed first half, much better 2 nd. Lines 6.5 tried his best against the quality Chelsea midfield and was as usual our most composed and forward thinking midfielder. Sinclair 6 same as o.clarke, did very well to get inside the box before he was fouled.surely a red card challenge? Bodin 5 only realised he had started when his h/t substitution was announced, did he touch the ball? Harrison 6 some good aerial work and a cracking shot which I thought was in after he scored the penalty.Touch was poor though. James 5.5 A couple of forages down the left but not involved and not a wide player. Subs: Easter7.5 changed the game with his physicality, awareness and ability to buy a free kick.No longer looked like men against boys. Taylor 6.5 excellent steal from cahill?and superb pass for sincs to gain the penalty. His positional play and runs are so much better than Harrison's. Gaffney6 still struggling for sharpness but was a bit more effective than billy and James. Crowd7 Ref5 (1 of those for giving the penalty)he gave us very little otherwise. Chelsea8 Rolls Royce 1st half a lot less impressive when we switched to 4-3-1-2 and got in amongst their midfield. Proud of the boys 2nd half performance after the very timid first half.Could Wael get Loftus-Cheek on a crafty loan for us the kids a total beast.

Sinclair 6 same as o.clarke, did very well to get inside the box before he was fouled.surely a red card challenge? Not this year, that is one of the rule changes ...avoiding the "double penalty". If a penalty is awarded then the defender or keeper will be punished by a yellow card. If it was outside the box he would have seen red as "last man". There is also a rule change about players having to leave the field after treatment...not entirely sure what it is but I have seen several instances, like the Oxford game where the injured player has stayed on..might be if the perpetrator gets booked?

Mildenhall 7 made some important saves and interceptions and his distribution was sound. Got used a lot as we played the ball around the back and did not do too bad a job at it - maybe we should give Pep a call and suggest a Mildy- Hart straight swap!
Leadbitter 6 not as effective going forward even when there was a clear path ahead of him but grew into the game defensively after an opening period where Chelsea had immense joy down the flanks. Hartley 7 great header for the goal and after some poor distribution in the first half he sorted his feet out after the break. Had a second half shut out against a player who cost 3million quid more than Shamesbury's were going to pay us to build the UWE...so you could say he kept a stadium quiet second half! Lockyer 8 second half he was vintage. First half he gave the ball away too much in our "rabbit in headlights moments" Browner 6 along with Leads he suffered initially at the hands of some razor sharp wing play and it was from those moments Chelsea plundered their goals but he got his foot on the ball and got forward more as the game progressed and he was not disgraced by the end of the game.
Sinclair 8 perhaps we've found his level, he should be in the premier! Never stopped running, as we expect, but harassed the life out of them, injected some pace in forward runs, passed the ball forwards, backwards and sideways. Better second half (as were they all) but one of those that emerged with credit in the first half too. Lines 8.5 MOM ran the show and pulled the strings for us. Dead ball deliveries on song. Didn't look out of place up against Fabregas and co. Clarke (O) 7 some sloppy passing early doors and got in Matty's way a couple of times but he broke up play and found pockets of space to offer Linesy an alternative out ball if the forward thrust wasn't on. Bodin 5 couple of promising runs but they were into cul-de-sacs in the first half. The ball was being lost too quickly up there and he had to be sacrificed to get Jamma's superior nous on the field. James 5.5 bags of effort, not much good ball getting to him, not able to do much with what he had, never stopped tracking back and doing his defensive shift though which was much needed during Chelsea's best spell.
Harrison 8 I think they were quite relieved when he went off. The period both he and Matty were on the pitch together for was our best spell in the game.
Easter 8 what a rich vein of form he is in at the moment, injected belief, nous and importantly ball retention into our play making us a different beast second half (from rabbits to lions). Excellent shot tipped away by their keeper. Taylor 7 set Sinclair away with a cleverly timed bit of trickery, occupied an England centre half and wound him up but when Gaffers came on his electricity with Harrison died in a tame finish to the game. Gaffney 4.5 unfortunately not his sort of game, could not get into it and we'll marshalled ...maybe trying Monty through the middle might have troubled Terry and Cahill more, as it was they ate Rory for breakfast.
Crowd 9 90 minute sing song even if I did have kermit the frog behind me! Ref 6 ..well he was better than what we usually get! Chelsea, paid us and the competition respect by not only starting with a decent team but also bringing on three of their big guns to try and stem the momentum we'd built up in that fantastic second half.
There was some significant and costly talent out there being matched by a squad that included twelve players plying their trade at conference level two years ago (11 with us and one with Woking). The lads did us proud!

First half, he was playing pretty much in front of where we were standing, and you could see from his face and his body language, that he didn`t fancy it one little bit. He wouldn`t go within yards of Pedro. If he did " grow into the game defensively ", it was only because the rest of the team battled so hard, and there wasn`t as much pressure being applied down our flanks.

He wouldn`t go within yards of Pedro. If he did " grow into the game defensively ", it was only because the rest of the team battled so hard, and there wasn`t as much pressure being applied down our flanks. That's the point of the ratings thread, we all have different perspectives on the game which is why it is the average marks from all the contributors that ensure a balanced view of the performance is the one that is preserved. As I said he got toasted early on but then I saw him swipe the ball from under the nose of the winger, pirouette to give himself time on the ball, slip it inside and then race forward to receive it burning the winger in the process...and then his final ball was duff. However, that positive injection into the game seemed to fill him with confidence and he was not the easy ride that he had been up to that point. Hazard got away from him once but both he and locks snuffed that one out, and the disallowed goal originated his side too, but let's not forget the ease with which our non league keeper and non- league/L2 back four were stroking it around second half and he was part of that. Basically both he and Browner earned fives for the first half display and sevens for the second...that's how they both ended up with sixes from my point of view.

Mildenhall . 7 Good solid performance
Leadbitter 6 Confident enough to push forward and provide outlet on right. Also didn't do too bad against a fast and tricky winger Lockyer 6.5 Worked hard all evening ,never felt he looked comfortable when we looked to play a passing game Hartley 7.5 Put in some great tackles and blocks. Scored a great goal and was comfortable to receive and pass ball well out of defence Brown 5 Sorry was not his night. Worked hard but won little
O. Clarke 6 Gave a steady performance, Lines 8 MOM. Ran the show for us. Was always looking for the ball and showed a great range of passing Sinclair 7.5 Tackled and harassed Chelsea from start to finish. Amazed me how comfortable he was on the ball even in tight spaces or near goal and always seemed to find his man with his simple passes. Also won us a penalty.
Bodin 5. Did not get into the game. Rightly subbed at half time Harrison 7.5. Brilliant performance. Very unlucky not to score with volley just over. James 5.5 Worked hard but lack of match practice and quality of opposition were always going to make it a difficult game for him
Subs: Easter 6.5 His half time helped us get back into game. Used his experience to keep ball or win free kicks Taylor 6.5 Chelsea defence kept him quiet. Gaffney 5.5 His style was easy for the England centre backs Cahill and Terry to contend with!!!!.
Crowd . 9. I was in the West Stand and the Gas sounded great and were certainly winding the locals up. Shall we sing a song for you, Your supposed to be home, etc Ref 7. Did not really notice him, which is good.BUT thanks for the penalty. Chelsea. 6.5 On a different day it could have been a cricket score if they had taken their chances and luck had been with them. But it was our day and to see them bring on Hazard, Terry and Oscar to see game out is to our credit

Really enjoyable, noisy night. Gave a good account of ourselves and just glad we didn't take it into extra time!
Mildenhall 8
Leadbitter 6 Lockyer 7 Hartley 8 Brown 6
O. Clarke 7 Lines 8 Sinclair 8 MOTM - Massive improvement
Bodin 5 Not a defensive minded player so 1st half set up didn't work for him Harrison 8 James 5 Same as Bodin
Subs: Easter 8 Taylor 7 Gaffney 6
Crowd 9 Ref 5 Chelsea 8 - Should have had more but we didn't deserve a hammering

My own opinions from the match
Mildenhall 8 Good early safe from Ivanovic at he back post and a few more as the game went on. Not really at fault for any of the goals.
Leadbitter 5 Didn't get close enough to Pedro on quite a few occasions Lockyer 6.5 Had a better second half but struggled to get to grips in the first Hartley 7.5 Good goal but lost his man for the third goal Brown 5 Struggled against the trickery of Moses who turned him again and again
O. Clarke 6.5 Put in a good shift and held possesion well. Lines 8 Used the ball better than anyone else in the team. Sinclair 7.5 Somewhere between Clarke and Lines and sprinted well to win the pen
Bodin 4 Not his game and he's struggled this season Harrison 8 Big dip in quality after he came off told it's own story James 5.5 Tracked back well to cover Azpilecueta but limited opportunities to go forward
Subs: Easter 7 Helped us control the ball more in the final third Taylor 7.5 Same as Easter but delivered the ball for Sinclair to run onto Gaffney 4 Wasn't trusted with the ball in behind and couldn't get anything off of the centre-backs

Chris Lines was Man of the Match with a score of exactly 8.00
The starting XI average was 6.71. This was the highest rating given in these threads for a defeat. The previous high was 6.67 in the defeat to Birmingham City in last year's League Cup. The highest rating for a defeat in a league game is 6.43 away to Carlisle last season.
There have also been only three drawn games with a higher rating. Exeter and Plymouth away last season and Eastleigh away the season before.
Mildenhall 7.2
Leadbitter 5.9 Lockyer 7.0 Hartley 7.6 Brown 5.8
O. Clarke 6.4 Lines 8.0 Sinclair 7.8
Bodin 5.1 Harrison 7.6 James 5.4
Subs: Easter 7.6 Taylor 6.9 Gaffney 5.4
