I mean this in the nicest possible way but what was a tough job has now become that more difficult. If it was difficult to guess what team Darrell would select last week then you have more chance of winning the lottery next week!!
Based on the adage that Darrell has been heard to say no point signing players if they aren't better than what you already have then my first step was to find a way to get all the new signings in the team and as far as I could see the only way was to leave Luke James out completely (as you can only have 5 loanees in your squad) and secondly to play 3-5-2.
So I started with this
Roos
------------- --------------- Clarke Salter
Roberts Colkett _________ Boateng __________
__________ ___________
I then added in the "definite starters"
Roos
Lockyer - --------------- Clarke Salter
Roberts Colkett _________ Boateng Brown
Taylor __________
I then added based on form so far the likely starters and I come up with
Roos
Lockyer Hartley Clarke Salter
Roberts Colkett Lines Boateng Brown
Taylor Harrison.
I really think that DC was aiming to go 4-4-2 as it is a home game next but the signings look more likely to result in 3-5-2 then substitutions reverting it to 4-4-2 if necessary. Personally within that formation I would find a place for Easter and that would have to be for Harrison.
I can see a DC bench of Mildenhall Easter J Clarke Gaffney Montano Ollie Clarke Bodin (I would go for Sinclair rather than Ollie Clarke.) leaving the following without a game
Leadbitter Puddy McCrystal Moore (Injured) Mansell (Injured) Lawrence (Injured) Broom Sinclair James .
That is 9 players sat in the stand!!!!
For those who say Wael has not put his hands in his pockets...think again. Squad wise I will be surprised if there is another team in League 1 with a squad as strong as this.
Have a go at playing the new game..no not Pokémon....guess the DC line up!!!

There's a fundamental fault here. Just because he has been heard to say "no point signing......" That doesn't mean that that player has to play in any given situation. That shows a disregard for fitness, training that week, deserve, formation, tactics, mind games, rotation etc. It is a squad game.

DC is in a good position now, in terms of motivating the players already here before the window. It wouldn't altogether surprise me if he put all the new loanees on the bench first game, as this would send a clear message to the squad. We've brought in reinforcements. They are here but they have to earn their place. Show me that you deserve yours! I would definitely start with Boateng, though, as we seem to have been crying out for this type of player.

I am not sure that we will need to stick to the same rigid formations that we have used thus far. I think that the new personnel will allow us to be much more fluid.
Whatever happens, it is going to be really interesting. AND, it doesn't matter which formation we play, there will still be 9 players watching from the stands.

Think he's done well.See ,Kiddy,Nuneaton,Alfreton and Telford from our recent history playing Salford this season which would have been a dreadful thought. In the ascendancy now as a club.No longer rag-Bag Rovers.Few wins, stadium news and I'll be happy. The Rochdale match seems ages away.Got my tickets for £9 each.Early bird and OAP discount.Wonder if Matt Lund will be playing for them?

I would like to see the new players come in and play in their natural positions, if they play well and some players have to take a seat on the bench then that is the way it should be... cant stand it players are catered for and squeezed in to the team when their is already a player for the role - i know youre only making conversation here but isnt Connor Roberts is a right back and wouldn't want him used a right midfielder/winger

DC said on "Having a Gas" last night that Jake C-S wasn't match fit currently as he had a knee problem. So there will not necessarily be tinkering with the defense to start with. I like the thought of a
Lines, Colkett, Boateng, Moore
midfield once we have them all fit.

Plus they could have been brought in as better than what we have on the bench rather then the starting 11 lol but anyway I think they'll all be used at some point as he likes to change things a lot

If we end up with a decent midfield, able to control a game and add some creativity and play balls to feet, I also like the thought of a front two of Taylor and Easter.

Looking through deadline day signings, other than Bolton, we have probably got the best players in out of the whole of L1.
I think Bolton may have secured promotion with theirs imo, particularly as they weren't too shabby before!

Think he will change gradually and not wholesale, perhaps the friendly v Exeter will try out all the permutations, and see what works. Boateng will definitely start.

Yes, you're right Bolton look strong but there's a long way to go and too early to say they've secured it. But they will be the team to beat....and we couldn't! Like you I think they will go up but our signings are excellent and are better than some others. Perhaps we did our best business on deadline day whilst others did it earlier in the summer Last year in January Plymouth fans were speculating on the match when they would celebrate promotion. Didn't turn out quite as well as they thought so it's still a long way to go! UTG!

Never said i would play Lines wide, just looking forward to seeing these players (in any combination mid field 3,4 or 5) playing in our midfield.

That's true, Leyton Orient started last season well and they didn't get a look in the promotion race.

And for last two seasons we have hovered around 16th/17th places for the early part of the campaigns

Agreed with this view, i think DC will want the Chelsea youngsters to prove they warrant a place rather than them just slotting straight into the 1st team, even Roberts didn't start at Swindon, place there's also a danager of starting too many newcommers will effect the way the team performs if half of them have never played together before. My team for Rochdale: Roos Roberts Locks Hartley Brown Bodin Boateng Lines Mantano or Moore (if fit) Taylor Harrison Assuming the three 3 Welsh players return injury free.

Might benefit us that Locks and Roberts are playing alongside each other in the Welsh u21 squad. Wonder if Locks put in a good word for him to come here, too.
