Didn't think we were great today but a point away is a decent return. Only real negative from today is the idiots who insisted on signing 'is there a fire drill?' at Bradford. Poor taste in my opinion. Maybe i am naive in thinking some don't know the atrocities that occurred in the Bradford stadium fire as I doubt any real Gasheads would sing about the hillsbrough disaster if we ever played Liverpool. This should be addressed before our next trip to valley parade. cant believe some sang that, how sad is that?

I would put my neck on the line and say with some confidence it has to have been sang with no ill intentions.
Many fans, especially those who sing, are young. Hillsborough is very well documented, other tragedies are not so much.
This is a chant which gets sung up and down the grounds every time a section of fans leave the ground, and while on this occasion, the events make it sound like a terrible and sickening chant, I'm sure if the fans were educated on the matter they'd have not sung it.
This chant is not really acceptable, but let's not jump on the back of fans for an innocent mistake. Our fans would never chant about Hillsborough or Munich, so why would they knowingly chant about this?

"Is there a fire drill" is sang at any ground against any opposition if there is a large group of fans heading for the exits early. Ie as if there was a fire drill... you must have heard that numerous times no? Similar to "we can see you sneaking out" etc. Whilst on this occasion in poor taste, I refuse to believe that our fans would sing it in reference to the tragedy.

I had been over my local: I got home and saw the live pictures: They were horrific; I will always remember how it showed one person (I could not tell if it was a man or a woman) walking/trying to run out of the stand. It seemed like they were walking in slow motion. I have since seen other film of people caught up in fire, and to me it does seem like they are moving in slow motion. Anyway, it seems from write ups on the event that it was an elderly man who died many days later. I hope the idiots who sang today, and those seen in the video cheering the fire can forgive themselves.

It was a horrible period for English football: ageing stadiums and infrastructures, the European ban, record low attendances, mindless hooliganism, one awful tragedy after the other. I remember one photo, I think it was in the Mirror. A silhouette of a man in a cloth cap stood right at the back of the stand engulfed in flames. So tragic yet so poignant.

Perhaps a bit of an over reaction on here then. I assumed it was being sung generally during the game not near the end, perhaps we need to give our fans the benefit of the doubt?

Very poor from some fans although a very small contingent. Probably the same ones that sing the cringeworthy, anti IRA song that seems to have resurfaced after about 20 years at home games.

Imo it was not in the slightest bit malicious and was a reaction to a big stream of Bradford fans leaving with a few minutes left. We were very close to the Bradford fans and as far as I could tell none of them thought it was in relation to said incident.

I think you are spot on; I thought our supporters were simply referring to the fact we had just equalized towards the end of the game and thousands of the bantam supporters were streaming out the ground as the game was grinding towards the final whistle. I also do not recall any Gasheads remonstrating against the chant at the time.

We were very close to the Bradford fans and as far as I could tell none of them thought it was in relation to said incident. Fair point. I couldn't go yesterday so couldn't comment on the number of those singing its just feedback on here, but if it was down to that, the simple but ultimately more comical chant of cheerio, cheerio, cheerio would'be have been more appropriate. Can't remember singing about a fire bell before. Let's move on and celebrate a hard earned point. I'm boycotting Tuesday after being treated poorly by Swindon after the last game, but we need to get some singing in the rain ooocha cha cha ooocha cha cha going when we win ....by those that are going. UTG

You're right, asparagus.....no-one has sung about a fire bell before. (I long for the day when people get Facts before they get Opinions).
