Hi, I'm the pre-match reporter for the Port Vale Fans Forum One Vale Fan. Part of my role is to contact fans of our forthcoming opponents to ask them a few questions and gain their views on the upcoming fixture between our sides in order to produce a report which we release on the site a couple of days prior to the game. I wondered if one or more of you (up to a maximum of 3 due to space constraints) have a few minutes and would kindly be prepared to share a few views / your feelings on the game by answering the following few questions; 1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?
2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)?
3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)?
4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?
5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?
6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team?
7. How do you expect Vale to do this season?
8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)?
9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect the attendance to be?
10. Finally can you pass on any decent recommendations for local ‘away friendly pubs’, eateries and the best places to park for our fans travelling to the game?
Please also feel free to include any other information you feel worthy and I will knock it into a report as per the example below regarding contribution from Doncaster fans from a game with them; www.onevalefan.co.uk/2015/02/opposing-views-doncaster-h/To enable me to produce this in good time I need a reply by Wednesday and the report will appear on our website prior to the fixture. Please also let me know if you would like me to include your name on the article and if you are prepared to share one a photo of yourself we can utilise with the article. Many thanks for your potential support in this matter. Best Regards, REP

Load of us go to Gas games from Eccleshall and Stafford. Please be aware they don't sell Oatcakes in Bristol!!!! My Mrs is a Potter and misses her oatcakes when we venture nearer the equator at Gas home games. We are usually back by 7.30 pm.Best park motorway side of ground if you can as unlike Vale we get big crowds and getting out can be a problem. I was on Police duty once walking the pitch at Vale Park and the ref gave you a pen which was outside the box penalising Devon White(rightly) but it was well outside the box.Told our manager Gerry Francis afterwards the ref had got it wrong. As a serving Staffordshire Police officer though ,I couldn't tell the ref what he'd done even though I was very very close patrolling the pitch perimeter which the match commander had let me do knowing I was an avid Rovers man. Also recall we played each other in a two legged play off final. We beat Fulham convincingly in the semi final. When we were last promoted to Div one our first match was at Vale park and we drew 1-1,Andy Williams scoring for us.

Third generation Rovers fan, going since 1982 but less so recently due to family commitments Hopefully comfortable mid table, been eventful in the last three so could do with a boring season then push on next year. Good manager and players seem good in theory. Probably too early in the season. Board are new and making up for lost time. Again, a bit early but we should know soonish whether the expectations become a reality. Don't call us Bristol when shortening our name, Bristol Rovers or Rovers. The quarters were thought to make us look bigger by the then manager. We never went bankrupt in 1982. Read this one for banter, but don't take my posts too seriously. Magic Mehew does a good one on here. Vale will finish top 8. The play offs in 1988/89. Your name suggests you may recall these. 2-1 with 8,100 watching Sorry, the others are better at recommending these.

The play off final games in 89 were probably my favourite in all my time supporting Vale, I was a ballboy in the second game and remember us being superb throughout with Nigel Martyn in spectacular form though I have to admit I do remember thinking Robbie Earle's goal in the first game at Twerton was fortunate as I am sure Ron Futcher fouled one of your defenders in the build up! How is Chrissy Lines doing for you this season other than his wonder goal on TV? Any view on the massive enigma that is Byron Moore?

I recall you were 10 points clear at the time and we never beat you that season so I consoled myself by thinking you deserved it. Being driven home after losing in the second leg I heard a song on the radio, Send in the Clowns I think. There was a line that said "Maybe next year" and look what happened then.
Oh, and Ron Futcher did foul. Git!

Hi REP,
Don't know if you need anymore but here we go:
1. First went to a Rovers game in 1972 after my two older brothers. So my football -loving dad got us into it one-by-one. He started going in the early 50s after arriving in The UK from war-torn Poland. A season-ticket holder these days. 2. It's a tricky one to call, but if Taylor and Sinclair stay fit for most of the season then I'd say 11th. We will be hard to beat and perhaps finish the season stronger than we have started it. 3. The manager has evolved like the team. We generally play a nice passing game now. He is a bit of a tinker man but knows who is producing the goods and who isn't. Danger men have to be Taylor and Bodin with Hartley from set-pieces. 4. The board are new but are piecing together a lasting infrastructure; slight improvements in our current ground, more staff behind the scenes, new training ground and stadium in the pipeline - a more professional approach sprinkled with ex- Rovers players ( Marcus Stewart, Steve Yates). So all very positive. 5. We played outside the city for a long-period (for 11 years in Bath until 1996) and even on our enemy's pitch back in the 80s, no-one really uses our nickname - The Pirates because The Gas is now the adopted one, our ground used to be only a rugby union ground until we became lodgers in 1996. 6. Gas Chat and Gas Guzzler. No fanzine as far as I know - which is a shame. 7. Expect Vale to start well but begin to fade from Christmas onwards - too many foreign players new to English football. So bottom 8 for you. 8. Those play-off games 1987-88 , where you relied on your star man Earle to get you up. 9. 2- 1 to Rovers, Taylor most likely will get one. Don't really know the names of your players. Attendance will be between 7,200 and 8,000 ( with what 300- 400 Valiants ??) 10. Most pubs at top end of Gloucester Rd, The Wellington and Sportsman ( very good pizzas post-match) good pubs. A lot of people are talking about a Lebanese eating place on Gloucester Rd as a great place to eat !? Parking always at a premium - but streets off Wellington Hill West have parking spots.
Phew ! knackered after that - too much thinking ha ha !!

Bloody Robbie Earle, always a thorn is Rovers' ass, along with Ian Stevens of Shrewsbury always seemed to score against us.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan? Saw my first game at Ashton Gate January 1968 V Rovers in the FA Cup, a 0-0 draw but fell for Rovers, especially as my mate was a City fan.
2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)? I think we will end up just in the top half, but who knows. For the last 2 years we have started off slowly and after Christmas we were virtually unbeatable
3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)? I think we all love DC but we often get frustrated at his constant team changes. Danger Players? wouldn't say we have any dangerous one. I suppose we are more like a swarm of annoyed bees. Any of them can sting you
4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities? Brill! for the first time in my lifetime we have people who know what they are doing. In a few years time we will have forgotten our "Ragbag Rovers Tag"
5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team? Our original ground at Eastville not only had a dog track, but a speedway track too, until the neighbours complained about the noise. We now own and play at the old Bristol Rugby club's ground. We have played at 4 grounds whilst I have been watching them.
6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team? This one
7. How do you expect Vale to do this season? mid table
8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)? The one time I went to Vale we drew, and had to run out of the ground due to some Vale knob heads trying to chase us. They were slow though, probably all smokers!
9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect the attendance to be? 2-1 Taylor will get one of ours. Crowd around 8,000 10. Finally can you pass on any decent recommendations for local ‘away friendly pubs’, eateries and the best places to park for our fans travelling to the game. Inn on the Green, park around there. It's a bit of a walk but mostly it's quicker to walk than drive after the game.
