Just pondering how futile the defensive strategy is in modern football.
Out of these last 2 away fixtures, two points is the textbook but lose one win one is better.
One thing about DCs rovers is by God do we try to win matches. Kitchen sink gets thrown at games.
How do we have this knack of finishing off games? It's been a characteristic of Clarkes team to win late. Stattos, that would be an interesting read, on how many games we win at the death. What is it? A rested, well rotated squad which has the legs? Or is it the attitude? Tactics?
I can't say how we keep doing it but we don't play many teams off the park but we just seem to have a knack of winning.
Good times

Dunno about the answers to your questions but a clean sheet wouldn't go amiss at present
I called this game on the way up
I knew we'd ship one , battle like chuff and pull a point or a win
The squad rested and rotated is probably right but the tinkering with defence is driving me mad

I guess a belief that we can win always win at the death? Although why does DC set Rovers up so negative for 60 mins before unleashing 4-4-2, why not start with it and take a 2-0 lead and then fight to hold on to that, which is surely the approach taken by most teams, although perhaps they've got the wrong approach and DC the correct one.

It's a fascinating approach by Clarke but who can say his are the wrong tactics?
When you think about it, finishing the game with an attacking force and half of that attacking force fresh off the bench gives you a great chance of scoring goals in the last 20 minutes. If you're in the game after an hour then you've got every chance.
It's something that I have never seen before and I'm starting to think that Clarke has really got this tactic spot on. Would we be as successful if we threw our best 11 on and attacked from the start? I don't think we would you know.
And I personally love the attack at all costs mentality. If in every game that would probably be a draw, you really go for the win, you're arguably going to win and lose 50/50 of them. That gains you an extra point per two games... something we have seen this week alone.
I think DC has an unbelievably clever footballing brain and his tactics are refreshing and innovative. He'll always get stick because he leaves out players who deserve to start in the eyes of many. But look at the results of the last 2 and a bit seasons and anybody who doubts the man is crazy. His results speak for themselves and over 100+ league games, it's sure as hell no fluke!

3 points for a win has been with us for 35 years. Some managers just don't learn.
Re the debate about going a goal down. As a general observation of life I find that people see what they want to see.
So DC, to his detractors, messes around with teams, we go one down, but we come back after making changes that should have been done to the starting XI.
To his fans, he is operating a brilliant squad rotation system, and by having fluidity in the defensive players gives himself a lot of attacking options on the bench and nearly always uses all 3 subs.
On the way to the 1990 3rd Tier title Gerry Francis's team (which was very rarely changed) went 1 down 5 times in a row, and came back to win all of them 2-1, including a crucial match at... yes, you guessed it... Northampton Town. Gerry was hailed as a genius and his team were considered brave, gutsy and physically and mentally strong.
