On the U.S. / Mexican border. First Brexit, now Trump. We live in interesting times.

Next year La Pen in France? Merkel ousted? Interesting times indeed.
William - If you go over to lay some bricks, make sure you stand on the US side when working. You want to be paid in dollars, not Pesos......Oh, and also make sure you're stood on the right side when the last bricks are laid.

Interesting article. I do have issues with comments like this though.... "making sure every Tom, Dick and Harry (and Bob and Joe and Billy Bob and Billy Joe and Billy Bob Joe) has cast his ballot?" - Like Brexit, it implies that the people who voted against the mainstream media/luvvie opinion are just, well, thick! He is also arguing that it's unfair that people were willing to get off their backsides and vote for Trump, while others who would have voted for Clinton preferred to stay at home on their sofas ! and this.............. "When Trump stood in the shadow of a Ford Motor factory during the Michigan primary, he threatened the corporation that if they did indeed go ahead with their planned closure of that factory and move it to Mexico, he would slap a 35% tariff on any Mexican-built cars shipped back to the United States. It was sweet, sweet music to the ears of the working class of Michigan, and when he tossed in his threat to Apple that he would force them to stop making their iPhones in China and build them here in America, well, hearts swooned and Trump walked away with a big victory................" Instead of offering companies like Nissan sweetners to stay in the UK, why doesn't the UK Government adopt the same approach? Move their facility out of the UK and they'll never sell another car in the UK market. Hard but fair.

I agree with you, Nobby, a lot of what he wrote is snide and patronising, ( that`s his thing ) but even so, he certainly called the outcome right. I alternated between Newsnight and Question Time last night, and to watch the white metropolitan elites stamping their feet in rage and disbelief, was too wonderful for words.

Tried watching newsnight had to turn off, apart from one panelist and a few in the crowd, the others were on a different planet, the thing most people focus on with trump seems to have been misquoted and played upon, ie what he said was not allowing muslims into the US until the threat from terrorist organisations was deemed at an acceptable level, this was twisted to a ban on muslims full stop.
The mexican rape thing was stretching the truth somewhat, the data for rape in america is freely available online, but bear in mind you have to read the small print as certain groups in society are lumped in with others. The us has had a long standing problem with mexicans in the us going back to pre america, it's different to illegal migration in other parts of the world due to the large numbers, over 30 million is the estimate. on the other side is the fact that a lot of recent illegals are already going back to mexico due to the economy of america(ie they are worse off in the us than they were in mexico.
The main issue is there's a lot of distrust of clinton that goes back to the 80's and probably before that, some of obama's policies were very unpopular (obamacare for 1) , many americans thought if clinton was president then it would effectively be another term for obama, the way america works people have so much to lose if things go wrong that this was their way of sticking one finger up to the man.
One thing many people forget is until 12th dec he may not become president at all, yes that good old american voting system, the electoral college can still change their minds, very rare but do able

Anybody But Clinton. The Democrats ran probably the only person in the US, who could have lost to Trump. I reckon, Charles Manson would have done better.
