www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/10659697/ian-holloway-says-gareth-southgate-should-not-be-made-to-wait-for-the-england-postNew QPR boss Ian Holloway says Gareth Southgate should already have been named the permanent England manager. And Holloway has criticised the FA's handling of the situation, feeling that they should not have sacked Sam Allardyce in the first place and that, having done so, they subsequently 'undermined' Southgate. Allardyce took charge after England's disappointing Euro 2016 campaign but lasted just one match, leaving his post after he made contentious remarks to undercover Daily Telegraph reporters. Southgate was then promoted from his post as U21 boss on an interim basis for the remaining four games of 2016, and led England to two wins, including a 3-0 defeat of Scotland, and a pair of draws. Following Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Spain, Southgate is hot favourite to continue in the role, but he will have to wait while an FA selection panel consider their options. Southgate is the leading contender to take the England job on a full-time basis Holloway thinks the delay is unnecessary and hit out at the FA for their treatment of Southgate during the first press conference of his second spell at QPR on Wednesday. "If I was them, I would have made a decision there and then to give it to him," said Holloway. "I mean, he has been undermined for four games, if you ask me. 'Oh, you have got four games, one of them is a friendly'. "He has carried himself with real class but I don't think the FA have carried themselves with real class. 'Oh, we are going to take our time'. To do what? "What have you been doing, any one of you? Who are you? "That is how I feel. Give him the job." Adrian Bevington believes Gareth Southgate has earned the right to be made national team manager Holloway also feels Allardyce was harshly treated, questioning the decision to end his tenure so abruptly. "Would I have got rid of Sam on a newspaper scam?" he said. "Probably not. "Sam could have made Gareth even better, because he could have taught him. "For me, it's a bit of an embarrassment. The best managers I have felt, in that job, have been hounded out. "What are we doing? What are we doing to our own game?"

I agree with Holloway on this - typical, classless FA way of handling things.

I agree with Holloway on this - typical, classless FA way of handling things. I'm not really sure what I think to be honest. I don't really think that Southgate is the right man. It makes the FA look unsure however. It is obvious that Southgate is going to get it (unless he did drastically bad in those 4 games) so they may as well as given it to him straight away. I don't like the sound of a potential 4 year contract though, what has he done in his managerial career to be given such a long contract. If I was part of the FA then I would suggest that if they do appoint him, he is given a contract until 2018 with a realistic target in that world cup which will automatically renew his contract if he achieves that otherwise at least review his performance before offering another contract.

England manager makes little difference when hardly any of the players they have to choose from are world class.
Too many johnny foreigners in the top flight that our top clubs are honing the skills of. How many English players play in Italian, Spanish, French & German leagues??
It's no coincidence decent managers continually fail in this post.

Southgate has really stamped his personality on this team.
Utterly boring and uninspiring.
The guy is a loser.

I actually agree with a lot of what he says but I also can't see him inspiring me if I was a player and he has no track record of doing anything as a manager. We aren't good enough at the moment though either in all honesty. If we get into the last 16 then that would be an achievement for me. Just saying that shows how we have gone backwards though.

Kane and Rashford set good examples for the rest of the English lads. I agree with the rest in general though generally lacking in passion and soul. I agree with what GS says about the players though. They are suffering with failures of previous England teams before them and carrying that burden. That was obvious in the game vs Iceland, as we had the team there to beat them but the players froze. We need some big characters when the going gets tough. Rooney was not a leader of men IMO and was captain by default. Kane is better captain material IMO and is one that will lead by example. He is also captain by default though as there is nobody else.

The sooner he's let go the better, then the FA board can follow! I'd say we're as bad now with the football as we were in the 90's with the cricket! What happened there? All the out of touch board got given the boot and started again!
Southgate is a complete hypocrite who's massively out of his depth!
Saying that, I bet we snore ourselves to the final and win 1-0...

We won't even get out of our group at the finals. I'm sure the Russians will "arrange" things to make sure the big-money national sides progress out of their groups.

The guy would struggle to get a job with a championship team. The sorry state of our national team means that nobody else wants the job. Big Sam would have been able to get more out of this team, not sure how much more!
Its so sad now with the complete lack of interest and faith in the national side. Nobody expects us to even get out of a world cup group anymore!

Really struggling to get any affinity with the national side at the moment, especially friendlies but increasingly also the qualifying matches.
Such a shame, maybe it'll change when the Group stages start but I'm not holding my breath.
