Poor performance last night and one we need to try and clearly forget! Whilst there are very few players who can say they performed to the levels we've come to expect I do wonder whether such a heavy defeat is influencing the scoring as there are some harsh scores here and whilst Charlton were the best side I've seen, they were certainly strong and performed to a pretty consistent level throughout the game punishing us for any mistakes made. For me the scores were
Roos - 5 couple of mistakes but certainly not helped by what was in front of him and those scapegoating him as I've seen on another thread are off in my opinion
Leadbitter - 5 just didn't work for him tonight
Lockyer - 4 positional errors and lapses when we needed him fully switched on. Do think the captaincy is weighing him down and I'd like to see someone else take over as we need a vocal lead and Tom can concentrate on his game and getting back to the consistent performances we've come to expect and know he's capable of
Clarke-salter - 6 best of the defenders in my eyes before he got injured. Threatened at a couple of set pieces and made some good tackles. We'll miss him
Brown - 5 same as leadbitter
Montano - 4 has talent but not consistency and made too many wrong choices and poor deliveries
Moore - 4 same as montano, didn't use his greatest asset enough
Lines - 5 not enough influence and a player of his quality and experience should be able to take games like this by the scruff of the neck to try to drive us back into the game. Didn't work and again too much sloppy play
Sinclair - 5 lots of effort and energy but no real impact. Tried but again didn't influence the game and couldn't get control when we needed it
Gaffney - 7 MOM - worked tirelessly and never gave up. If only he could add more goals to his game
Taylor - 5 missed some chances but at least he got into the positions. Lacked service and an off game for him
Subs:
Hartley - 4 brought on to change shape and add presence. Lack of pace found him struggling and not as much of a threat at set pieces compared to his normal game
Colkett - 5 tried to bring a different dimension and creativity but with everyone else underperforming around him struggled. Tried to be too clever when we needed to keep things simple and get better ball retention
Harrison - 5 worked hard but again wasn't his night. Gets a rough deal on here from some and not sure why.
Crowd - 7 kept on supporting despite it falling apart in front of our eyes
Charlton - 8 Sussed us out, stuck to their game plan and played to their strengths and exploited our weaknesses
Ref - 6 pretty decent compared to what we've seen previously but I expect this standard of ref generally
DC - 5 could have been a different night if we'd taken the early chances. Picked a formation we've been crying out for and we are now criticising him for it? Made positive substitutions to try and get back into the game (I won't criticise that as I think the intent was the right thing to do) and it was just unlucky with JCS injury - we gambled and lost on this occasion...... would we have been criticising as strongly if we had clawed the game back or it was closer end result? I don't think so.....
