Managers have been using the term "men against boys" for as long as I can remember and nobody got offended on behalf of boys.

Have young ladies accepted this apology?I would be f**king livid at such a slur if I was of the female gender. Snowflake alert.
But don't worry, Mrs May has just announced she is going to sort things out some (more) social justice. If you write to her, I'm sure dish out some cotton wool.

Are we being offended on somebody else's behalf here? Has the Girls Football Federation reacted in outrage? Does it really matter at all? Do people seriously pick up on anything said to call a card of some sort! The bloke apologised which probably attracted more attention than the original statement. Why should only women be offended by sexist and derogatory remarks ? How can it be sexist or derogatory if it's true ? do boys play football better than girls ? Are you offended by a girl saying she has better dress sense than a boy, they do, so are you offended ?

Northampton Town manager Rob Page has apologised for labelling his side's 5-0 thrashing by Bristol Rovers as "men against girls". The 42-year-old made the comment after watching his side lose for the ninth time in 11 games in all competitions. "I immediately realised that this comment was totally unacceptable," said Page after a "difficult afternoon". "No offence was meant by it and I apologise wholeheartedly if any was caused." Page made five changes to his starting line-up because of illness, injury and international duty, but saw Ellis Harrison score four times for Rovers in Saturday's League One match. Afterwards, Page told BBC Radio Northampton: "People are knocking on my door, saying they deserve a chance and when you do, do your talking out there. "Actions speak louder than words. There was a couple giving that. It was men against girls, not boys. "That was embarrassing. My staff and players feel like we've let the football club and the supporters down." Page took charge of the Cobblers in the summer after Chris Wilder, having led Northampton to the League Two title, moved to Sheffield United. A 31-match unbeaten run stretched between seasons and they were in the play-off places in late October, but their poor run of form has seen them drop to 16th in the table. The Welshman insisted he was not a "quitter" in the face of job pressure and said there was "no excuses" for his side's performance at the Memorial Stadium. "I've got to apologise to the supporters. They didn't deserve that today. It's not acceptable, I'm a proud man and that's a hard one to take," said Page. Not one word of credit for Rovers, arrogant tw@t Does he need to praise us? His team were awful and he is annoyed at his teams peformance rightly and has apolovied to the fans

He has every right to be annoyed with his team, but he should still give due credit to the opposition.

I've got to say I thought the girl they brought on who passed the ball sideways a bit but didn't do much else had nice long hair.

Illness stopped me from attending today so it was a day of following the action listening to Radio Bristol and following Social Media. One of the slightly mischievous joys of this today was following the match thread on Northampton's forums. To say that Cobblers fans are livid and underwhelmed with him would be an understatement, some were calling for him to be sacked in the centre circle at half time! This interview sounds like it could be the cherry on the top of the cake for some! They can't understand how in 8 months they have gone from being 14 points ahead of us, winning the league at a canter to losing to us twice including a thrashing when basically we still have exactly the same team now as then! Well, it's a continuing theme under DC, isn't it? 2nd to Barnet in the conference season, massively outperformed them last season. Now at the top of the mini-league of promoted teams this season, all of which have performed with credit. Mostly the same team. But then, I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that DC doesn't improve players..... Or another way,DC is looking ahead, other managers simply look at now.

Don't take nothing away from rovers yesterday we tore them apart a made the look bad. Well said. I couldn't agree more - for the first thirty minutes of yesterday's game we played some irresistible football and carved them apart. Playing like that we would have been more than a match for any team.
I do get fed up by some of the posters who put emphatic results like that down to the lack of quality of the opposition rather than the quality of our own team.

Charlton fans did exactly the same to us. Despite two big wins against us it was down to us being poor with comedy defenders that they won so well according to them.

Not sure you could dispute their view point? For us it's now how we perform at Fleetwood that will show if we're really on the up, or Northampton on the way down.

If its sexist then why not allow women playing against men? There is a reason they dont! Thats not the point, female footballers probably don't appreciate there game being used as a benchmark for sh** football. Yes a poor L1 professional mens team, its actually a compliment as how many women would compete in L1?! Anyway he probably meant to say boys but the wrong word came out. Hard to backtrack when you are being interviewed live.

If he'd have said "It was like men against boys." then some would moan that he was ageist. UTG!

Hard to backtrack when you are being interviewed live. Why don't you listen to the interview before posting? He says "it was men against girls not boys" implying that all women are bad footballers compared to their male counterparts. There is no way that he meant it to be a compliment and I can't see why you feel the need to keep defending him.

The BBC do, they are literally desperate for any imagined sexism so they can exclaim - "see, that's what my social studies professed was talking about - Patriachy! Patriachy!" They will take offence to anything so long as it was said by a white heterosexual male. Especially working class ones.
