Surely only Macca and Easter would be on decent wages? Lines must be on a fair bit, plus Browner and Taylor? Those players are not effectively being told to f off though are they?

Harsh but fair. At least they all have a chance at finding a club for the rest of the season.

Either very interesting or very worrying times.
Either:
1) This has happened because a few new players are incoming and imminently at that
2) We are reducing what is already a small budget
I could totally understand (and expect this [plus more!]) in the summer, but with less than 2 weeks left of the transfer window and halfway through a season, to be told they won't feature again is bizarre if we don't have replacements lined up.
I'm gonna be optimistic and say it's the first reason. As the second is too concerning to really think about.

Age has caught up with these players in dc's eyes, but if hes to build a side to take us to the next level then someone from each area of the football pitch has to go, easter and macca i think could do a job in league 1 but im guessing hes not just after that type of player and is looking at players who can come in and maybe play in the championship if we get there

I think DC has got it pretty much spot on if I'm honest.
Puddy has never ben good enough, McChrystal isn't getting any younger and has looked out of his depth in L1 and Lawrence is too slow and injury prone. Slightly surprised about Easter as he has made a positive contribution this season but he's probably behind Taylor, Harrison and Gaffney in the pecking order so his chances would be limited. Haven't seen enough of Little and Malpas but trust DC's judgement.
I'm a bit surprised Mansell wasn't on the list as well but maybe they're going to offer him a job on the coaching staff?

Will be sad to see Macca go with how much he gave to this club over the last couple of years. The way he sank to his knees when Mansell put away that penalty at Wembley showed how much this club means to him. I can't say I am too surprised about any of them though. 3 in the twilight of their careers and only probably going downhill, 2 youngsters who never made the step up and 1 who isn't really up to this level of football. Will be interesting to see who comes in now, especially in the goalkeeping department as that only leaves us with a loan player and an injured Mildy. I guess Partington is Macca's replacement and maybe DC feels Lucas can step up and be the 4th choice striker. We also have James until the end of the season so I expect DC sees him as 4th choice striker.

Didn't someone say on the Lumley thread that they thought DC would sign a decent keeper just to water all of us moaners off?? If he does it will be some top trolling by him!

Odd things going on, odd timing for this to come out Agree, but thinking about it. Is he trying to use this as motivation for the rest of the team to up their game or they could see themselves released in the summer too.

Feel for the players and thank them for all they've done.
But I Dam love DC's ruthless streak and lack of sentimentality.
If it's what makes him and our club successful, I'm all for it.
We've had far too many managers dishing out stupid contracts and not having the backbone to do what DC has done today and it's got us right in the sh**. This is a breath of fresh air.
All I will say tho it's not all rosy that Puddy can go from number 1 to not being selected for the rest of the season. He isn't good enough, but it goes to show what a mess that situation has been for ages. Dunno what DC has planned, must be bringing in the Gerken

I'm gonna be optimistic and say it's the first reason. As the second is too concerning to really think about. If it was no.2 then there's an obvious source of revenue and wages which we could get rid of, given that Taylor hasn't gone yet I'd say it isn't that. Also, no time frame on these players leaving until their contracts run out, which suggests again its not a wages thing. I hope Macca in particular doesn't leave in January, as we can give him a send off at the end of the season. That does suggest one more is coming in then, given Mildy isn't 'back' until March (although a 37yo keeper with a knee injury doesn't bode well for any kind of return, let alone a sharp return). Unless 'not being considered for selection' in Puddy's case just means that Lumley is no. 1 till end of the season and he's on bench?

I like Mansell, I think he is good for the club. Not sure if he'll be off in the summer but feel you may be right re: a coaching role. You could see when he came back into the squad a few weeks ago how professional he is, in the Warm ups, during the game, barking at people constantly. Love his passion. I think he's good for the club
