I haven't read the whole thread but apparently Taylor has had loads of abuse and name calling on here, I really hope it's not true, if it wasn't for him we'd still be in non league, hoping its just my shithead mate stirring things up. He's had a bit; the sort of abuse you might expect. If he actually leaves, then obviously it will get worse.

Scunny just rejected a £4m bid for their 8 goal striker Kevin van Veen, £4M??!!... No way is MT only going for £300k... I just can't see that figure being correct. Why not? If that's his release clause which is definitely plausible seeing as he was out of contract in the summer and reluctant to stay with us then. The contract was obviously signed on his terms. I don't believe that is the release clause. Where did this rumour come from? Chimpy? If it was that low then he would have been signed by a better Championship side by now, look at figures being quoted for players who've proved less than him. Bogle another.. All just my opinion mind.

Surely in today's market less than 2 million is a steal! I don't mind him leaving but just not to the sh"t! I wouldn't even let byron Moore or puddy go there!

Although I have no doubt MT is going I'm surprised sky sport news are not even mentioning it at all.

There's no question of that. but £300k or nothing? Him going to City is irrelevant. When the contract was signed, it wouldn't have been a release clause of of £300k and for City to buy him in January. It's just unfortunate if it is them that activate it and not another team.

Will we get the usual silhouette and 'signing within the hour' if any business is done today?

He was available for free in the summer and they didn't. Who's to say they didn't try? Leeds were rumoured I thought. Also he had only scored in League two then, Now he has goals at this level he is far less of a gamble. Of course £300k is better than 0 in the summer but come on... in modern football that is pennies and at that price there would have been a load of speculation over him leading up to January. I may be wrong but I just can't see that sort of figure being in his contract. Why are you so convinced by this figure out of interest??

If more than one team bid more than the release clause it becomes a bidding war and Taylor will take the largest bid because he gets 10% of the Fee.... Common somebody bid £2m

Certainly makes DCs comments look ridiculous if he leaves for 300k. Of course it could have been to put people off and try and keep them unaware of him having a release clause, but still. I just can't see how at 300k we've not been absolutely inundated with offers - surely 20-30 clubs would have been interested at that price? The only thing I can think of is MT's agent has made it clear he won't consider any offers under £x per week and the 82ers are the only ones daft enough to pay that, let's be honest on present form we won't miss MT but whether he's just been going though the motions or not lately we'll find out over the next few months, wasn't MK Dons away is last match winning performance?

You should see Twitter for abuse, shocking really. I understand people's frustrations, especially going to the sh#te, I too am not happy that he would go to trashton but he has done a great deal for the gas. If he goes, we'll find someone to replace him, on wards and upwards. UTG

I don't doubt the existence of a release clause, sounds fanciful that 300k wouldn't have already been activated however.

This makes the following interview very strange. Was DC in the dark? In denial? Weird Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has ruled out the possibility of star striker Matty Taylor being sold during the January transfer window.
Taylor took his tally for the season to 18 goals after scoring twice to help Rovers to a 2-0 success over AFC Wimbledon at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon.
The striker, who penned a new and improved two-year contract in the summer, is expected to be the subject of much speculation over the next four weeks after already being linked with a host of Championship clubs.
But Clarke was adamant that Taylor will be staying put and that he was more interested in adding to his squad during the window when it opens on Monday.
"We don't need to sell anyone so what happens will happen," Clarke said. "Matty is not going anywhere. We'd have to be talking a silly money offer of something like £10 million. Even then I don't think I'd consider it.
"Matty Taylor is a fantastic player and he will get all the plaudits today because he scored the goals. His work-rate and his desire are what sets him apart for me.
"I'm more interested in what we do in the window. There will be some activity during the window but I don't want to talk about that today following a fantastic performance from my team."
Taylor, meanwhile, is braced to be the subject of some January speculation but says his experiences of last summer will allow him to focus solely on what is happening on the pitch.
"It (the speculation) affected me a bit for a couple of weeks last January," Taylor admitted. "I come from a non-league background and that was all new to me.
"I am prepared to deal with it this time around because I learned a lot last summer. I took my time to decide my future and I had my reasons for that.
"I am ambitious and so is the gaffer and that is why I re-signed. The club is heading in the right direction and things are going very well.
"I don't see why we can't kick on again over the second-half of the season. We usually pick up over Christmas and the gaffer has given us a target to better the number of points that we got over the first 23 games."
