Had a long chat with Robert Lawrence recently about the pies/pasties.
He explained that they have considered changing suppliers but when a company was given a trial run, they failed miserably to supply what they promised.
Now may be a good time to discuss this as Robert is retiring at the end of this season and surely we can have input for the pies, pasties and baguettes yet alone the food supplied in the Kitchen.

When was the trial run? Have never noticed the difference over several years apart from a steady decrease in quality over the last season or so.

When was the trial run? Have never noticed the difference over several years apart from a steady decrease in quality over the last season or so. A couple of years ago a company promised BRFC the earth to supply the pies/pasties but just before the launch, they changed their supplier and the quality of the ingredients.
If the quality of the food is so poor, it would be usual for the customers to complain and stop buying the products. From the queues at the pasty huts this would not appear to be the case and after a game when they sell off the surplus stock by the Memorial Gates, people are almost fighting with one another to get their hands on the products.
I love the meat pies, never been one for pasties. This is not something that I am exercised about but if Gasheads feel this is a major part of their day, take this up with your Supporters Club rep or Clare the Liaison Officer.

i don't expect you to have the answer to this but do you know if sales have increased as attendance's have gone up or are they the same as when we had 5-6000 crowds. if sales have remained stable (which i imagine is the case) then ultimately the percentage of people buying the product has gone down....

We need to get his sorted before we're in the Prem, it's not going to be easy with 30,000 extra mouths to feed. Us real fans could be on hard rashions.

I went to the same school as Robert. St Mary Redcliffe, when it was all boys and in the old building behind what is now the Mercure hotel on Redcliffe Hill. As the school was essentially in South Bristol a lot of the boys lived in Bedminster, Southville etc so the majority were City fans. There wasn't the needle between fans like there is now, with the result that lads would go to watch both teams. I don't think fans used to travel away in such numbers in the 60's. I always remember that Robert was a very good magician. It seems that stood him in good stead as he's had a magic Job working for the Gas!

We should be making deals with the local businesses ie pieminister etc (although pies would cost around 5iver). I always have a pasty and you get more for your money in my opinion, but as this thread suggests the quality of the food has gone down. This is such a shame as away supporters used to love coming to the Mem for the food. I went to trashton (to watch exeter beat bristol) I couldn't bring myself to buy anything within the stadium but they have loads of selection, local businesses buzzing with their food huts and im afraid to say they have gone ahead after having the crappest food in the football league! Ps i am ashamed to say i went to trashton but it was for the right reasons of seeing Bristol lose

I once had a pie at Anfield , chap serving it was very proud of his 'Mersey Pie'.
I took one small bite as it was really hot, the whole thing fell apart and to this day I'm sure the contents made a run for it across the car park !!
The three lads i was with opted for a kebab and were ill for three days after. Fun away days !!

but....but....Cilla always called everyone Pet ! That's how they order pies. Don't hey say "Pet" in Newcastle, Sunderland etc? I thought the term of endearment in Liverpool, apart from "Mind yer car mister"? was "Chuck" or "Chook" to put the nasal, whiny accent on the word.
