Anyone else shudder when you think of what the consequences of "fake news" issues is?
The term was coined not by Donald Trump but by the Hilary campaign who said the wiki leaks DNC hack was fake, and so were many websites. The media jumped on this (it's very much in their interests to take out web news as "fake" as they are struggling selling papers and content when so much is free. So now, anything not from the mainstream is "fake" and they want it banned.
What will happen if we are not careful is a big, emotion ridden story will emerge. The NOW being shut down with the Mily Dowler story being the cover story, while really lots of powerful people cynically piggy backed the story so they can have as many shady deals and mistresses as they like with no press intrusion.
If we let this continue, you will end up with a government run organisation who decides what's "news" and what's "fake". The potential for abuse is enormous.
They'll use a story of some poor victim who had their life ruined by a fake story, and they will use this to take away your birthright - independent news.
1984 had a name for this department - the ministry of truth. They way things are going we will have this sooner than expected.
I wanted to highlight to others that "they" are on manoeuvres trying to get the press gagged and to warn fellow citizens of the cynical tricks they will use to get you to agree to your own censorship and loss of access to free news.

It has already started in Germany. Government officials are shouting 'fake news' at any story, especially stories regarding immigrants. Merkel has already mentioned in several speeches that maybe government action is needed to stop the 'fake news', but as gregorystevens has pointed out, it is very dangerous when a government can decide what is, and what isn't, fake! It's is just a very small step before the government can decide what news you can hear, and what should be kept from you. Very dangerous.

Dangerous times.
The don't want the truth out there for the masses.
Hopefully people are getting wiser and its now not just tin foil hat wearing people like me who are waking up to the kind of sh** governments are pulling.
Most of the fake news actually comes from "reliable" media like BBC, CNN and newspapers!!
In the US 90% of all media (TV, News, films, magazines, press and even internet providers) are owned by just 6 companies!!
Unbelievable.
Orwell was an amazing man.
1984 is already here.

Orwell was indeed a genius as he tied it in to the specifics of all authoritarian regimes. "Memory holes" are a key part of it and that term should live forever as its a brilliant one liner to represent the suppression of free media and the revision of history. Glad I have some fellow independent minded Gasheads. Perhaps we can share a verse of Irene as we are shipped off to the re education camps!

Adam Curtis has made a couple of brilliant films about this topic in the last few years - Bitter Lake and Hypernormalisation - which discuss how the political establishment throw out confusing fake stories to muddy the water about their real agendas.
The Guardian and Daily Telegraph have described his films as brilliant, so if those two agree, there has to be something in it.
The two films mentioned above are each two hours long so I won't post a link here, but they are worth searching out.
But I would recommend watching this 5 minute clip for a flavour of what he has been saying for several years now. He's no fan of the Tories, but that's not the main point of what he has to say. They're all at it.

The real issue is so called fake news and false flags, have been around since the invention of the written word, the bigger issue in my mind is how many people still believe everything they are told(fake news by governments or by mp's who suddenly become experts only a day after being given a cabinet position), ie its on telly/internet so it must be true ,then change their minds when it gets poo poo'd by the powers that be to be fake. Also remember that if you stick your head above the parapet so to speak then you can and will be monitered by the so called security forces. Yes the press need to f**k off when hounding innoocent people but if you have done something bad then tough sh** What also make me laugh is people like myself who have seen this stuff coming amongst other errosions of personal freedom, were traditionally laughed at and called either loopy or eccentric and wore hats made of tin foil We arn't that far away from orwells book as the technology exists to spy on and control people already and to some extent is used daily, a lot of people wouldn't have a clue if they were being watched as the electronic fingerprints they leave every day is phenominal. whoever is in power will bring up fake news to force the sheep in society to back them and accept what they are told without raising an eyebrow , a lot of todays yung uns think using the technology available to them is private and confidential(not realising that a lot of stuff they post belongs not to them but to the site they are uploaded to) , you try and explain to em how much the authorities can find out about em and the think your mad . I'm all for revisionist history as new facts are discovered everyday and almost never bought to the attention of the masses as people would realise they have been lied to all thier lives, and forced for 5 or more years to study the lies through school as history is written by the victors and the losers perspective is all lies Just remember one of the biggest removers of the freedoms this country enjoyed was a certain mr bLair. for anyone interesteed the fbi have recently declassified a lot of documents which are available online free of charge. Im glad i've past 50 and i dont have to look at th e world in another 50 odd years time

All I wanted to do at school, was play football and cricket. Hardly listened to anything the teachers said.

Yes he has. That's not fake news. Banned or suspended? Actually I didn't find him too bad, certainly not in my top 3 annoying posters. I see he has moved to Gas Guzzler and is plying his trade there at the moment.

Always a difficult one to judge, but when people keep deliberately kicking up a sh** storm, it's only going to end that way. Certain other posters, please take note.....

When we played Shrewsbury in the playoff final I was flying back that day! Just managed to get home, leg it up the pub just as they were kicking off. My Father tried to get me a flight directly into London but couldn't sort it. Typical.
