Has anyone had any success claiming PPI from their bank? I've literally just stumbled across some old paperwork, and it quite clearly states that I was charged for 'Optional Loan Payment Protection', so my claim has gone in today !

Yes. Looked at moneysavingexpert.com, helped through the process. Just got my result. Very happy and didn't have to pay any fees.

Yep, I made a PPI claim 3-4 years ago. Went onto the Bank website, downloaded their own claim form rather than a generic one, filled it in and sent it off. Got back more than I expected. Time consuming but not difficult. And I always keep financial paperwork for years so I just had to photocopy and attach it.

I kept getting the phone calls every week.
I knew I had no PPI so kept telling them to sod off.
One afternoon out of devilment I told one company that they could go ahead and process my claim just to waste their time.
I gave them my DOB and that was it.
About 6 weeks later they sent me a letter telling me I had a claim and asked me to sign 2 forms!!
They charged me 30% commission but I still ended up with a check for £1200.00.
And I still maintain I didn't have any PPI.

I kept getting the phone calls every week. I knew I had no PPI so kept telling them to sod off. Same with me,or so i thought. But if you had a credit card in the past then the chances are that payments were added on at the start whether you new about it or not. Bank loans and mortgages are more straight forward and easier to check. I ended up going with a company that took 20% anyway got back £3,260 and i am told there is still a smaller payment to come.Just goes to show there is no harm in trying.

Put in two complaints with two different banks in January. Used the standard Ombudsman questionnaire for both. Both complaints upheld and money was paid to me last month.
For the price of a stamp, please please do not use a 'claims' company!! Do it all yourself, there is absolutely nothing a claims company can do that you cant.

If you go onto Martin Lewis website, he has already done a template letter for you, all you have to do is fill in a few missing blanks. As Weeezord said, don't use a claims company, you are literally spunking money away.

I had all my account details from years ago so didn't need the letter templates but it is all so straight forward. And looking back I was blatantly missold!!

So to try and trace that back is like p1ssing in the wind. A claims company will do a full investigation on your behalf where as i simply did not have the time to do it.

How do the claims companies trace it back then? Its a 5 minute letter to the bank to get your account details and 1 hour at most filling out the questionnaire. You have to give the claims companies the reason you think you were missold and other info, so you may as well just do it yourself! 30% of say a £2k redress is actually a joke for what they do. Still, each to their own!

Like i said in an earlier post, i just did not have the time to do it and even if i did i was never going to write or phone to various credit card companies trying to guess what month/year i had accounts active. Still, well done to you on getting your's back.

Still, well done to you on getting your's back. Could go on all day but I think the claims companies are a scandal. You can check your credit history yourself to see what credit/loans you had, very easy to do. Anything older than 6 years and it's a quick phone call to your bank (I had to do this with both) and they will give your account number. They may even start the process over the phone. People think the claims guys wave a magic wand and 'investigate' to see what you had. BS. If it's not on your credit history they will ask you what banks and when, so you may as well do it yourself. Again, anything the claims company can do, you can do. It really isn't time consuming. I can't stress enough to anyone reading this, don't go with a claims company, all the info you need is on MSE website. If you can't spare the time, surely you can 10 minutes a day for a week, if you feel aggrieved and want the money back? Mine wasn't a shot in the dark, now I've been made aware of the miss-selling tactics for PPI I remember definitely being missold on both occasions. I guess some people want to try their luck and claim something they have no idea about, and will use claims companies then. (not aimed at anyone on here) And if you're willing to pay 30% to these jokers, you're probably in for a decent redress. Which makes it even more sickening that people actually go with them.

Yes i agree in principle with what you are saying.but obviously every individual is different with different circumstances in their lives. Personally for me i had five different credit cards ( with Balance transfers) all taken out over a period of time,so to challenge them all i would have had to do it (five times) on an individual basis, this was for me never a one letter to the bank solves all scenario.
