Chris Dawson and Tom Thorpe both released by Rotherham. Both might be worth a closer look in pre-season. Maybe on trial.
Thorpe is a 6'2" defender who came through the ranks at Manchester Utd and played at England level from U16 to U21.
Neil Warnock once compared Dawson's style of play to that of former Leeds United legend Johnny Giles. He is a 22-year-old former Welsh U21.

All we have to do now is sit back and fill in the gaps!
DC has confirmed the 10 positions he's targeting on tonight's Having a Gas.
DC has three or four targets for each position, ranked one to three/four.
ROVERS SQUAD (DC contract offered) [DC targets]

DEFENDERS Lockyer Hartley Burn Partington Leadbitter Brown J Clarke (Kilgour) [LB] [LCB big and dominant]
MIDFIELDERS Lines O Clarke Sinclair Bodin Moore (Broom) [Defensive CM] [Attacking CM] [Left-sided player who comes inside on his right foot]
ATTACKERS (Harrison) (Gaffney) [CF that pays off shoulder] [CF that runs down the line] [CF that drops in the pocket]

He's also confirmed he'd like to think he can get Sweeney back.
"Sweeney and Lumley are the calibre he's looking to get in."

Bury sign Jermaine Beckford on a 2 year deal. Looks a very good signing to me. I would have welcomed him here. If they manage to keep him fit and don't sell James Vaughan, they could be there or thereabouts next season. m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39901038

He is dirty, he sulks, he does not seem like a team player. For a player with so much raw talent, he has ended up at Bury.

Three promotions, twice named League One Player of the Year and 93 goals in 161 games at this level suggests he does something right. He was also named Players' Player of the Year in the past, so can't be that bad of a team player. Yes he has had one or two issues, highlighted on this forum, but so have some of the best players. He might flop, but with his record it is certainly worth a punt.

Was it him that scored a hat trick for Dirty Leeds against us, a few years ago?

Wages must be ridiculous for those two.

He scored 2 against us when they beat us 4-0 at the Mem and also scored 2 the day they beat us to secure promotion at Elland Rd.

He’s not, we have brought Jermaine to Bury so he can play alongside James. "They have played alongside each other before and I want them to rekindle that partnership in a Bury shirt.” www.burytimes.co.uk/sport/15283802.Bury_sign_Jermaine_Beckford/

I hope Wael's not reading the forum or I can see him asking DC next week why he thinks he needs 10/11 quality players when one's good enough for Bury.

Goalscorers at this level can make all the difference. They now have 2 of the best. One or two other decent signings in key areas and I can see them challenging for the play offs.

How can Bury afford both of their wages? They're supposed to be in financial trouble. Strange.

I wouldn't of thought DC would be interested in this type of player , how old is he now 33-34 ? Hardly set the world alight at Preston did he ? Living off past reputations me thinks! I think dc is after players on the way up in their careers not their way down looking for a final pay day , in my opinion bury are welcome to him.

For the record Beckford scored 21 goals from 34 starts at PNE. Anyway I'm sure DC has some decent players lined up and trust him implicitly.

Correct about Easter age but he was dropping down to the conference not a struggling league 1 side , thanks for correcting me on beckfords scoring record though as I must of been thinking of someone else , had a shocker there diddnt I !!!!!

In fairness to Bury they have the makings of a decent side there already. Joe Murphy, Leon Barnett, Paul Caddis, Danny Mayor, Vaughan and now Beckford should all do well at this level. I don't know what went wrong last season, but, like I said, if Lee Clark gets in 2 or 3 more decent signings they could do really well imho.

Why would they get him cheaper just because it is down the road? Surely the attraction for Beckford would be that he wouldn't need to relocate?
