Time to fire up the player ratings thread people so the guidelines are;
Score each player( including subs) who complete 30 mins or more from 0-10 Score our manager from 0-10 based on team selection/tactics/substitutions. Give the opposing side a team mark from 0-10 Approx 48 hours after match ends to get your scores in
Were all big boys and girls on here so need for any fancy criteria, just score it as you see it ,doesn't matter if you tend to score high or low as the results will be decided by the average.comments alongside are voluntary but encouraged as people not able to attend can get more of a feel as to how individual players have performed.
Probably need at least 10 posters per game to make it worthwhile so hopefully SteveK,seanclevedongas,GHB,Bideford Gas and the others who kept the thread going on the OF will be up for it (apologies to names I've forgotten who were also regular contributors as well) unsure if we have the numbers on this forum to achieve that yet but time will tell.If anyone has any ideas on improving the format could they post them on this thread pdq as the big kick off is nigh!

Mildenhall 5 not a lot to do,but deed seem sluggish but has been ill Leadbitter 5 didn't do much going forward, but did ok Lockyer 7 defended well and when pushed in midfield got involved but passing still weak McChrystal 7 did some good defending, just wish he wouldn't back off so far when somebodt runs at him Parkes 8 thought he was our best defender Brown 6 looked like what he was, fullback playing wingback, Monkhouse 6 some nice touches, better to come i think Mansell 5 similar to above Sinclair 7 tireless but needs the ball on the deck Taylor 5 lively but missed our only real chance Brunt 5 didn't get hold of the ball much, but will get better ith games
Subs Gosling 6 looked very promising, good control and nice movement White 4 no time to do much Clarke 4 some poor touches and passing
Manager 6 Thought the 3-5-2 wasn't working, wingbacks were well snuffed out, changed it second half and we were better.

Mildenhall 7 - not a lot to do but a good save kept us in it Leadbitter 5 - looked short of confidence and fitness, didnt get forward enough and looked a bit out of his depth Parkes 8 - really impressed with him, marshalled the defence very well. McCrystal 7 - slow as my Nan but very solid and dependable, good performence from him. Lockyer 6 - a good game and im probably being harsh but his passing was very poor and often gave possession away because of it. Big fan of his and he defended well. Brown 7 - got forward much better then the other wing back, looking to get crosses in and link up well with midfield. Very pleased. Mansell 6 - a real leader and good set piece taker and looked to get on the ball a lot. Need to see some creative spark however as the forwards need more of the ball. Monkhouse 4 - assume he wasnt fit, very poor game not involved really. Sinclair 8 - Our first proper box to box midfielder since Jamie Shore. The only midfielder that looked like creating something. Will probably get mom every week like Tilson however well he plays. Taylor - 7 looks really good, pacey and keen to get stuck in. Very unlucky no to score. Brunt - 5 not fit yet but showed a few signs of what we will have in a month or so's time.
Gosling 7- the game changed when he came on, gave us a gear change and more creativity. Would start him at Barnet instead of Monkhouse.
Clarke 5 - had a very poor end to last season and his first contribution was to lose control when we were two on one. Looked lost but cane back into it and gained more confidence in the last five minutes. Needs to be eased in and will benefit from playing alongside Mansell.
White 6 - not on for long, i think he will be a real assett.
DC 6- 3-5-2 became 5-3-2 and the long ball was a shock for me. Showed he is willing to change things however which impressed me. We have some good players and only a few i have my doubts about which is a bloody good start compared to last season. Now sign some creative midfielders and lets push on.

Mildenhall - 6
Didn't have too much to do but made a couple of good reflex saves that other keepers may have let in. Claimed the ball in the air well and I thought his distribution was better than last season.
Leadbitter - 6
Was strong in the tackle, defended well, showed a good turn of pace but didn't seem to get forward as much as a wing back should so left as rather narrow on the right hand side.
Lockyer - 6
Anticipated things well and made a crucial tackle in the first half. Got outmuscled a few times but he is not the biggest for a centre back.
McChrystal - 7
Showed his good experience today. Read everything well, organised and kept their strikers quiet.
Parkes - 7
Looks better than last season. Distribution has vastly improved and I can't remember his man getting the better of him. I do still worry though when he likes to try and beat a man near our box.
Brown - 6
He isn't really suited to the wing back role but got forward well and put a few good crosses in whilst being solid at the back.
Mansell - 7
I thought he protected our back 4 well and kept the ball moving nicely when in possession. Never going to do anything spectacular though.
Sinclair - 7
Didn't stop running, good in the tackle and supported the attack well. Perhaps lacked a little creativity at times but I can see why people think he will be a fans favourite.
Monkhouse - 5
Showed glimpses of what he is capable of and put in a few good set pieces but I don't think he was particularly suited to that formation.
Taylor - 8 (My MOTM)
Chased every ball, showed good pace and got the vast majority of his efforts on target. Held his own in the air for a little guy against big centre backs.
Brunt - 6
Good strength in the air and some clever flicks/passes but never really looked like a goal threat.
Subs:
Clarke - 5
Seemed to give the ball away a few times with dodgy touches or getting the ball caught under his feet. Did manage to play few good pass from deeper though to get attacks started.
Gosling - 7
Some nice play when he came on. Not afraid to take on his man and looks like he could be a creative option for us this season. Very unlucky with a reverse pass into White late on too. A few times I wanted him to go wide on the right as there was loads of space there but DC might have asked him to stay a bit more central.
White - 6
Not really on the pitch long enough to give a rating to but made good runs and was following up on the keeper for any second balls which makes a pleasant change from our recent strikers.
All in all, a solid but unspectacular performance but it was against a strong side who will be up there this season and we are a team still trying to get to know each other.

Quite a lot of opinion as this is the first time I've seen half of the team. I stood just behind the dugouts.
Mildenhall 7 Relatively untroubled save for a tame shot, claimed well at crosses, but could have released the ball quicker at times.
Parkes 6 Strong defensively getting his body in the way several times, lumps it forward too often McChrystal 7 Calm presence in defense, organised well and dominant in the air. Lockyer 6.5 Defensively good, especially in his positioning. Played some dangerous long balls into their area, but needs to also mix it up with some short passes. Could have released Leadbitter with a simple pass on a couple of occasions.
Brown 7 Linked up play down the wing well and put some decent crosses in, defensively fine. Sinclair 6.5 Showed good workrate, always willing to get on the ball and not afraid to take the shot. Earned him the crowd's respect with but deserved it. Mansell 5.5 Kept the midfield ticking over, nothing flashy but not much I could say about him. Monkhouse 4.5 Seems to be caught flat-footed a lot of the time and not the quickest at all. Didn't go wide enough which was another reason we went left more than right. Reminded me of Blizzard in his height and running style, but I hope he proves me wrong. Not convinced yet. Leadbitter 5 Not involved in the game enough, although looked competent in the times when he had the ball but we seemed to go down the left wing with Brown more times than we gave it to Leadbitter.
Brunt 6.5 A big difference from last season in having someone who could hold it up front. Battled well and linked well with Taylor. Didn't quite fall for him in terms of chances. Taylor 7 Kept running the whole game and always put pressure on their defence and 'keeper. Should have taken the one-on-one chance a touch earlier but darted between he lines all game.
Gosling 6 Added more width in the game, some nice touches but can't really judge him full yet. Clarke 3.5 Totally out of sync with the game when he came on and gave the ball away twice in good positions. White 5 Couldn't really judge him on today.
Darrell Clarke 6.5 I liked the 3-5-2 formation to start with as we looked solid defensively but could occupy the Grimsby defense with two strikers. As the game went on however, it became clear that with wing-backs there's fewer chances for any overlap down the wing, as you normally do with a full-back and winger. The switch to 4-4-2 didn't work initially as Monkhouse drifted inside and left masses of space in front of Lockyer that we didn't use. Gosling was a more natural winger and that worked better.
I'm not really sure on the quality of the Conference so I'll give Grimsby a 7/10 and use that as the benchmark with which to measure other teams. They seemed an organised side and probably created more clear-cut chances than us.

Mildenhall 6 Good steady game and to be honest didn't have a lot to do which is testament to a pretty good defensive display. Leadbitter 5.5 A very mixed game IMO seems to be pretty quick and willing to get forward. I would say he was better than the Michael Smith who started under Buckle in that Leadbitter looks a solid defender. Obviously not a patch on the Michael Smith of last season. Lockyer 7 Tom looks a classy defender for his age and has great composure.Only down side is his passing which could be improved Tom Parkes 8 For me the most improved player from last season. The loss of weight has helped him immensely and he looked very confident in his ability particularly first half. Mark McCrystal 6.5 Reasonable game but is never going to be a good player in possession but is very reliable. Lee Brown 6 Felt Lee was a bit lost in the pace of the game today and does not look comfortable in the wing back role. Sinclair 6 Great workrate and competing for possession but for me lacks the creativity. I am sure he will improve steadily and you just can't fault the mans engine. Mansell 6 Steady is the best way to describe his performance. Played simple football well but we really need a bit more creativity in the midfield area. Is a leader and drives others on. Monkhouse 6 Was actually impressed by him today for some parts of the game in that he is always looking to play a forward pass and do something positive. Didn't always come off but I am sure he will get better Taylor 7.5 Looks a good player and just wish we had created more for him and that he could create a partnership with somebody. A very lively player who I think will score some goals given the chances. Brunt 5 Disappointed with his performance as for me won very little in the air and his first touch deserted him for long periods. Really could do with having some competition for his place and personally I would go with Taylor and White on Tuesday. Gosling 6 Thought in the time he was on the pitch he did very well and looked lively. Made things happen and was unlucky not to score. Certainly brought a more creative aspect to the team Clarke 5 Sorry but IMO not good enough. Maybe he will improve but loses possession far too easily. White Can't really mark him because he was not on long enough and he is without doubt a goalscorer but didn't get a chance. DC - 7 Can't really fault him as he selected the team i would have selected in the circumstances and he changed things trying to win the game. Crowd -9 What a credit to both sides over 7000 for a Conference game that was on the TV. Well done to Grimsby for bringing so many so far. Grimsby -7 Well organised, seemed very used to what they could get away with the referee as last season 4 or 5 of their players would have been booked and one maybe sent off and Leadbitter may have been sent off. Referee 7 Apart from being very lenient I actually thought he had a good game Read more: www.gasheads.org/thread/855/todays-ratings#ixzz3A4MT4EPi
