What do people expect, they moan about ticket cost and then moan the club doesn't spend all its money during a January transfer window. When was the last time Rovers a had a squad with 3 current internationals in it ? should be fun to watch these lads over the coming weeks to see how they progress. The loanees may even like it and decide to stay like Taylor, Connelly, Thomas etc who all came in as loans to start with. Could be worse, that great recruitment team at Aldershot have added James Daley, to go with Theo Widdrington, Cian Harris, Jordi Van Stappershoef, Zain Walker (out on Loan) Josh Barrett and Rollin Menayese. That recruitment team are taking a team predicted to be relegated into one that is playing some of most exciting football in the NL and currently sit in the playoff zone. In the summer they also recruited a lad for peanuts from the 8th tier and sold him on for relatively big money to City in the 2nd tier. Doing a wonderful job.

Just a coincidence that Widdrington was heavily involved in scouting Westbrooke before he signed for Coventry. The Timmy Abraham signing was certainly agreed before Garner was anywhere near the club, as was acknowledged at the time. I wonder how many others in that bracket? If Widdrington was in charge is signings, how come we signed different types of player's under Coughlan than Garner?? Both managers worked with Widdrington. Yet under Coughlan we signed player's like Ogoggo and JCH who were more physical. Garner spoke about player's like Barrett and Daly and said how he had followed their careers etc. Obviously Widdrington has to take a lot of blame as well, as he was heavily involved as well. But don't get Widdrington taking all the blame. You can clearly see that the managers were having a big say as well. They have all gone now anyway. So let's move on. Anyone heard any rumours regarding Evans?? Still hoping he signs. We normally get a lot of news, as the players return to pre season. As media teams are around and we need player's to train with😂 Barrett another one scouted by Widdrington and then signed by Coventry during his time as Head of Recruitment. But clearly everyone made mistakes and no one person is to blame. I agree, they have all gone now and time to move on.

He'll be managing Josh Barrett! Barrett gets a brace in his first game under TW. Goal again today.

Not a big endorsement for Widds though, bought for L1 and ended up playing for conference relegation battlers Things obviously didn't work out here, but Barrett is still young enough to get back to League One level and beyond if he gets himself fully fit, avoids injuries and shows the right attitude.

I hope the reunion works out well for Josh, I remember that he donated his team shirt for a fan with the same surname to be buried in, and I believe he was very helpful to the family. What a quality gesture. Hopefully Widdrington can get him fully fit and firing on all cylinders, if he does that the lad should be far too good for that level. Good luck to them both.

Geordie Tommy on Barrett... “The guy is a talent,” said Widdrington. “I have been connected with Josh indirectly for five or six years. I recruited him into Coventry City and I recruited him on to a permanent at Bristol Rovers.“ I thought the intelligentsia on here told us he was Garners signing? Can't speak for others, but I always said he was a Widdrington signing. gaschat.co.uk/user/1158/recent?q=Widdrington+Barrett+

But he’s head of recruitment! His job was/Is to target suitable players and to construct a solid balanced team. He’s failed. No, that's the manager's job. He's consistently said that the manager discusses what he's trying to achieve and what kind of player he needs to achieve that, and then Widdrington profiles players who fit this. He then provides lists to the manager to discuss. The process is still driven by the manager. TW is head of recruitment, so will ultimately try to sign whoever the manager decides to pursue. Apart from Timmeh Abraham and Josh Barrett (and maybe others?).

Hmmm, let me think. Garner already told us that Abraham had been lined up long before he was appointed and Harries was at Coventry during Widdrington's time there and Barrett joined Coventry on loan during his spell as chief scout. My question was genuine, but that's for your sarcastic reply. As you've set the tone, I'll carry it on. I guess what we can takeaway from your post is that Abraham was lined up from Widdrington whilst Barrett & Harries you're guessing/making it up. The other 4 signings (the majority of the 7) you have no idea. So when you say "give Widdrington's signings a chance", I can only assume you're talking about Abraham. It doesn't take a genius to work it out mate, considering Widdrington was part of the process in signing Barrett at his previous club and was at Coventry at the same time as Harries. As for "the other 4" signings, I was wrong to say Garner's only real influence was with the Daly signing, as he also wanted Blackman (who looks good) and has known about him since trying to sign the player as a 14-year-old.

Widdrington is basically the de facto director of football these days and has a major influence at the club. Most of the signings have been in the pipeline for a while. Abraham for example as was intimated by Garner. Harries was at Coventry when Widdrington was a scout there and so too was Barrett when he joined Coventry on loan. Who was on the 3 man selection panel when Garner was appointed? Wael, Starnes and Widdrington. But Garner has the final say so yes? If he wants to take the credit or fall on his sword for other people's signings that's up to him. Very risky business. A manager lives and dies by his results and signings. Obviously so far it's been abysmal, certainly the results have been.

So Daly and Harries have played a combined 5 minutes between them and Barrett's appearances restricted by the size of his gut. That all sounds very reassuring in terms of player recruitment. The only player Garner had much say in was Daly, the rest were Widdrington.
