After a great run of three wins on the bounce for Graham Coughlan’s Bristol Rovers, the lads are in a much more positive mood than usual! We look back at an emphatic 4-0 home win over Blackpool, a solid 1-0 away victory at Gillingham on Tuesday night, and in particular the form of Jonson Clarke-Harris, who continues his great start at Rovers. There’s also discussion around our fantastic defensive record, as we look at what makes Tom Lockyer and Tony Craig’s partnership so impressive. gas-cast.co.uk/blog/podcast/44-thunderbastard/

Thanks for the write up Steve.
Its nice to know that when teams try and bombard our two short CBs that they are capable of withstanding. A lot of teams in this division go direct and it seems to play into our hands. When teams actually play (like Sunderland) thats when we get found out.
I would have rated OC lower. More like a 4.5. I think he's been in poor form for a few weeks now and could do with a spell on the bench.
Same would go for TN for me. He was too easily bullied off the ball last night and I felt he didn't really affect the game. Would like to see a JCH and Reilly partnership given a go.
Other than than those I agree with your analysis.

Think Craig has been excellent since GC took over, with Locks not far behind. If Holmes-Dennis is fit for Saturday - does he come back in ? Personally, I'd keep Kelly at LB and put HD in left midfield - Charlton is going to be his sort of game and he'll give team more balance out on the left. Tough I know on the 11 who played at Scunnie and Gills but we haven't looked that fluent in these 2 games going forward.

This episode about Charlton was too Charlton-heavy, please cancel my subscription. Joking aside, make sure you share the link for your preview on their podcast. In which I assume you'll just bang on about Sinclair. You know me too well!

I know there is the small matter of Gillingham away this evening, but here is a look ahead to the Charlton game at home on Saturday. In this Build Up episode Tom Metcalfe is joined by Louis Mendez from Charlton Live. They chat about Roland Duchatelet’s recent demand that the EFL buy Charlton from him and the history of his Stewardship of the club. They also chat over Charlton’s pretty secure position in the playoff race and the Addicks recent form along with the players to keep an eye on when they play at the Mem on Saturday. gas-cast.co.uk/blog/podcast/build-up-charlton-h-ft-charlton-live/

Surely it's not a zero sum game though?. Some people do not want ANY non-EFL club / team in the competition, and I would respect that. It was our competition; for LGE 1 & 2 clubs only (yes, I realise some conference clubs were let in for some years in the past...). The issue of potential creep towards u23's into the EFL is just one issue. I understood your last sentence was the major reason the majority of posters were against the competition. Now the info that it is never likely to happen has emerged, it would seem to me the protesters are now just complaining about the inclusion of under 21's , in an already Micky Mouse competition. I'm boycotting for both reasons. The statement from the Portsmouth CEO hasn't allayed my fears that B teams won't ever be introduced to the lower leagues.

Says the CEO of Portsmouth about the Checkatrade controversy. Apparently in order for B teams to enter the Football league 90% of the 72 clubs have to vote for it. So if eight clubs out of the 72 vote against it, it can never happen. The 90% rule was brought in at their last meeting in the summer and in fact increased from the previous rule of 75%. This is the first I have heard about this and begs the question, what was all the fuss about. How many planning applications have been rejected? I'm serious I don't think there has been one yet. Just plans and hot air. A lot like our stadium plans.... I do though think that BCC is anti commerce and the city and its immediate surrounding areas have been a success despite themselves. This has been the case for decades. Home counties assholes moving into BS7 and BS3 complaining about anything associated with stadia that have been in those postcodes for 100 years or more, and get themselves into organised well funded groups to argue the toss. I think Bristol city centre is dying actually. Out of interest why? Considering the amount of businesses that are here I find it difficult to believe. Especially when you see articles like this: startups.co.uk/best-place-to-start-a-business-outside-of-london-revealed/The city centre is dying, I agree. However that is a general downward trend for the high street (see Debenhams, BHS, etc) rather than BCC. I'm sticking up for them so much I feel like I should be on the payroll!

Please stop with this generalisation. Off the top of my head I can think of: - Huge blocks of flats in Redcliffe (with indoor market I'm hearing) - Extension to Wapping Wharf - Brandon Yard housing - East street redevelopment - Bottom of North street housing development - All the work thats going on round temple meads Thats JUST off the top of my head. Plenty gets built in Bristol, its not Bristols fault we can't get our sh** together to get a new stadium How many years have they been talking about the "Bristol Arena" ? How many planning applications have been rejected? I'm serious I don't think there has been one yet. Just plans and hot air. A lot like our stadium plans....

So their current home kingsmeadow they rent, yet somehow without any land assets they can purchase land in southwest London. Possibly one of the most expensive places to buy land in the country, possibly the entire planet. Oh, and then they've got the resources left over to build a stadium on the land.... Talk about pulling a rabbit out of a hat.... Its London. Things get built there. In fact things get built in most places. Bristol is the exception. Please stop with this generalisation. The BIG problem is if we win tonight I will not be able to go to Wembley to watch my beloved team, so I don't want to be in that agonizing position of me stuck at home while some friends and family are there, the thought of that makes me sick, so best that scenario does not happen. If we get to the final then of course I will want us to win but hopefully tonight will be the end of this torture.Anybody who has had the common sense to boycott these games can't possibly go to the final can they? if they do then they are hypocrites. The powers to be have certainly a lot to answer for by ruining this competition for the majority. Not sure as a club we can afford to wave £250K/£500K away just to appease some fans principles. The final will now be seen as a success regardless as to whether we're in it or not. Running the risk of being bumped out to make way for the Man City B team would cost a lot more than 250/500k. If we're in the final we will have a much lower crowd than usual and that will send a message to the EFL about the fans feelings on the competition.

Like boycotting away supporters in the Premier League didn't affect any decision the Premier League made? It's absolutely your call to attend but the idea supporters engagement with this competition will made zero difference is nonsense. I understand what you say and I’ve said all along I won’t go but the boycott last season had no effect and I suspect the final with it being between two well supported clubs will create a large attendance at Wembley, possibly even a record. And so far the boycott has made zero difference. It was a trial last season and has been repeated this, no effect. And I bang on about it but it is within the powers of the chairmen to end this but they choose not to. And in the end most people are adults (I know it’s hard to believe reading this forum sometimes) and can make their own mind up without others telling them what to do. It would be interesting to know if the division between those Blackpool fans who have watched them and those who have boycotted for many years is as vitriolic and divisive on their forum as this has been on ours. Do you know? UTG! The boycott did have an affect. This time around any losses incurred by the club for putting on the game are now guaranteed by the EFL. So if no one turns up the club won't be out of pocket. That can be attributed directly to the fans boycotting as it was never the case before.

Now 12 per cent with a big gap to the bottom four. They must know something we don't.

I think bonham and ollie clarke should be dropped and if the manager dosnt trust sercombe in the middle he should also be left out. Bonham dropped is one of the worst shouts I've heard all season. Clarke dropped for Sercombe though. Spot on!
