I was feeling a bit pessimistic about this one (a requisite predisposition for a Gashead) but having just watched Josh Grant’s prematch interview I am somewhat reassured that the squad are not as highly strung as the fan base. He looked calm, confident and reiterated the same sentiments as Sam Finley; namely that the team just need to believe in their ability, reproduce what they are doing on the training pitch and stop giving the opposition too much respect.
I think that we will definitely see Luke Thomas in the starting lineup at 3pm and his threat will make space for other players to exploit. I predict we will go for a fast start, will be 2-0 up by half time then hang on until the final whistle with a dogged and confidence boosting defensive display that will give a lift to the whole club.
I’m off to see my therapist in a few hours! UTG

Yeah, the same year I believe pulp stepped in for the stone roses.... I don't believe a word about squires collar bone, I reckon they just knew they weren't prepared.... Pulp were fantastic though.....
Pulp were/are one of the few bands of that era that I never saw live and would jump at the chance if they ever reformed; even though I know it would never be the same. I watched lots of that Glastonbury on Channel 4 - must have been a few more years before it ended up on the BBC. The good lady did about 12 Glastos on the bounce. Had tickets for the 50th anniversary in 2019 which got cancelled - were supposed to roll over to 2020 so assume they will for next year.
I've been lucky to see some great stuff over the years; but I can't wait to see some of the rescheduled gigs that I've got coming up over the next few months. A bit like getting back to Fratton Park - it's not so much the performance as the chance to see the performance.
Although the Glastonbury 95 performance was seminal there’s a YouTube video of Common People at Reading 2011 which I think is even better as, sixteen years later, it has even more energy and is a masterclass of stagecraft and musicianship. I love the intro from Jarvis who says that if Pulp are only remembered for that one song, he doesn’t care as it’s a good song, and it could be worse as Black Lace are only remembered for Agadoo! 😂 …and just in case the forum police are monitoring for thread drift, does anyone have a good recipe for pulp fritters with peanut sauce?

I'm surprised. Any fan of Dylan should know he has a habit of being a complete dick at live shows. He has a long history of deliberately P?!sing off audiences. Shame, because he is a good artist. On the other side of things, I saw The Cure about 20 years ago and they were absolutely amazing. They played 2½ hours and it was like listening to a recording of every song you would ever wish them to play. (If you are a fan, obviously ) I saw the cure at Glastonbury in 95 (I think) and they were awesome.... I'm not a massive fan so I sat at the back under a tree, but it was a great show.... …just the one tree, or a forest? 😉

We could always try playing to Thomas, Collins and Evans strengths If we don't have a target man play into their feet, they all are technically good players maybe we should try using that to our advantage rather than punting aimless balls which are meat and drink to the centre backs. Of course we can go long if we need to but play those passes into the channels, turn the centre backs and make them work, we have pace in wide areas with Saunders and Anderson, if we don't have the option of Clarke we have to play in a different way. Man City seemed to do alright without a recognised striker and just lots of forward thinking players up top….and they don’t wear red too. V similar. 😂

The only positive I can think of is - as you say - we aren't away!!!! Orient have started pretty well, but this is sort of game we've got to be winning, period. I do wonder whether Barton will be sacked if we lose this one. I don't see any way he could be kept on surely. I want to see a bit more urgency from us and we simply must cut out the individuals errors that keep plaguing our game as of late. We haven’t really been played off the park at all this season other than the first 30 of the Exeter game, we’ve just come up against teams that have mostly been able to retain the ball a bit better and create a few more clear cut chances. We’re approaching the point of the season where assessments are starting to be made, not quite there yet though I’d say, Barton will want to keep the good home form and be a bit further up the table when Wael makes his. Isn’t that what Sam Finley said in his last interview, that his team mates need to have more courage on the ball, play more on the deck and eradicate the individual mistakes. Admittedly he was talking about our away form but I think it applies to all performances. At least the players are thinking the same things we are so fingers crossed.🤞

What kind of answer do Network Rail give when you ask for your ball back?

I see Frosty is stoking the Bristol clubs’ internecine rivalry with his latest article in the Post. I guess there is no room for responsible journalism when he gets paid by the click.

The only improvement so far is the training ground, and most other clubs already have one of those …but we didn’t have one, so it is still progress and moving the club forward. It’s not WAQ’s fault that we didn’t have a training ground and he has ameliorated the situation.

In difficult times like these my thoughts turn to the sagacious words of Queen Elsa:
Let it go, let it go Turn away and slam the door I don't care what they're going to say Let the storm rage on

Here's a question for anyone who cares to answer. Which of the following three would you take: A) Promotion back to L1 with confirmation that there will be no new or redeveloped stadium any time soon; B) Consolidate in L2 and announcement of modest but definite Mem redevelopment with a couple of new stands; C) Relegation to Conference but announcement of definite brand new stadium? C, it’s the only way we have a long term sustainable future as a club. Besides, get the stadium right and I think we have a bright future. I’m not sure that Darlington fans would necessarily agree but in principle it should make more sense to get the infrastructure in place first. However in reality money follows success so it might be better in our circumstances to aim for promotion which improves the chances of better sponsorship and inward investment.

Great and terrifying post. We are quite simply on a one way train to oblivion based on these stats. Literally in long ish term free fall. Even my low end expectation of 46 points and scraping L2 survival is optimistic based on this. I think all fans should be rightly worried until we see a sustained improvement in results. How can that make us a laughing stock? BG must have brought a few of those big cans of WD40 with him.

JB has mentioned several times in recent interviews that to change from a losing culture to a winning culture we need to transition into a hard to beat team first. Although I’m sure he wants to win the game, as we are the away team, I’m expecting a defensive minded approach with not too much going forwards. I predict that it will be an unspectacular goalless draw with a slightly improved performance, but I’m hoping that we nick a 0-1 win.🤞

Sorry doesn't cut it.... we need a re-match! I will get a team up and bring the orange slices, my dad can be ref, just name the date, oh and the venue Just so it's all fair, no kicking away walking sticks or biting with false teeth Youre on mate.... I went to portway so many of my friends are shire lads,. My Dad grew up on barrow hill crescent and then worked at the station in avonmounth..... Problem was that portway school team was rubbish, but sea mills boys club were really good.... My grandfather worked at Avonmouth station and had lots of tales about the banana trains and helping themselves to confiscated German WWII weapons which came through the docks.

Just remember that it took Lord Darrell of Clarke 😇 until the eighth fixture before going on a winning run, and that season turned out alright in the end.
