LJ had this bad habit of falling over whenever one of the opposition got close especially when 1 on 1.
Nichols on the other hand seems to have much better balance, movement and strength as well as being more likely to get a decent shot away.
I'm sure it won't be long till he finds the back of the net as whenever he plays he seems to get himself into good potential goal scoring positions.
I think playing him as a sub for a few games might do the trick as this will take a little pressure off him. As BB said, he might be trying too hard.
One things for sure if he wins a pen then I hope he doesn't take it, if he misses it or it is saved by the keeper it might well finish him off like it did for LJ!

Even if Burn is fit I'd rather see Rollin partner up with Broadbent for the Northampton game. From what I have seen of him he is quite impressive.
A back line of Parts / Rollin / Broads / Bola could be very interesting.

This is a bloke who took it personally when relegation to the conference happened, even though he had only been in charge for 8 games. He could have walked but he didn't, he stayed. Promotion back to league 2 at the first attempt and then a second promotion the following season to league on. Look at how many clubs struggle at the bottom end following promotion. Not Rovers. Pushing for promotion to the Championship until the Teds stole the snake. Second season syndrome affects many clubs, so it was never going to be a walk in the park this season. He has worked nothing short of a miracle and had stayed loyal. To say that he has taken Rovers as far as he can when there are players injured too in my opinion is disrespectful. Wouldn't know of any decent replacements if he did leave. Be careful what you wish for. Thank you for reading my mind and posting exactly how I feel! I've been dipping in and out of this thread this week and had been meaning to comment but simply could not find the time to do so. The thread is embarrassing tbh. I only hope DC does not read it. Seems some fans have short memories and lack a sense of perspective. We are extremely lucky to have DC and in no way has he taken us as far as he can, he clearly does not think so as why else would he have signed a 5 year contract in the summer when he could have jumped up a division. Ok, so right now we've not managed to improve on where we were last season, a win tomorrow and we're only one point behind, we're not that far away. It's hardly a crisis situation which warrants turning on DC. Yes we've been inconsistent, we've played poor at times but we've also played superbly well in some games (Wolves / Fulham / Portsmouth 1st half being just some recent examples). We've made some big changes to the squad, it will take time for them to fully gel imo. Let's just get behind him and the team and do our job which is 100% supporting them, not go into a mini meltdown whenever a result doesn't go our way, that's the shi*ts style it's not the gas way...... UTG!

Under 9s

Post by bluestone on Sept 24, 2017 15:55:09 GMT
Hi all, not sure I'm posting this in the right place so please feel free to move. I am trying to get my son into a under 9s team and he is in year 4. He was in a team but he wasn't going nowhere and I have decided to take him out, does anyone know of a place that are looking for players around the Bradley Stoke are, or better still does ROVERS do one? My lad plays for Bristol Rovers Supporters Junior FC. We're based at Southey Avenue Kingwood. He started in the U9's earlier this year but now he's in the U10's. The team play in the blue and white quarters too! He loves it, great team spirit and the coach is excellent. I don't have any experience of others to compare it to but it seems a really good club so far. m.bristolroverssupportersjuniorsfc.co.uk/club/Home/login_home

In answer to the OP:
No. I'm not struggling for motivation.
I wasn't struggling before Wolves and Blackpool and I'm not struggling now, in fact I haven't been struggling even since UWE went down the pan.
I'm just thoroughly enjoying another season watching the swash buckling adventures of the pirates!
Don't get me wrong, we're not playing out finest football by a long shot yet but I see alot of positives both on and off the pitch.
On the pitch:
That Rovers never say die attitude is still there in the squad, those players slogged their guts out at Wolves on Tuesday and really took the game to them and arguably deserved to win.
Yesterday whilst we were poor in spells (keeping possession mainly) we were definately the better side and managed to end Blackpool's unbeaten run.
All of this whilst our squad is, in DC's own words, quite threadbare, just imagine what might be able to achieve once everyone's fully fit.
Off the pitch:
I don't share the cynicism of others about our owners and i don't share the belief that they are here to do us harm, all I see is a club that is continually improving in all areas, little by little, bit by bit, you could call it evolution not Revolution.
I fully expect some exciting plans to be submitted for the colony within the next couple of months providing further evidence of the long term ambition of the club to develop our infrastructure.
Whilst we are back to the drawing board on the stadium i can't wait to see what the new owners vision is for mem. I was sitting in Wolves ground on Tuesday night thinking, yep this would fit nicely on our plot of land in Horfield. I know it isn't going to be easy or quick getting planning permission but we will get it as I believe we have twice previously.
Well, that's enough positivity from me, whilst I could go on with many more reasons to be cheerful this rose tinter gas head has to get out of bed on a Sunday morning to take my boy to play football.
Funnily enough it is Bristol Rovers Supporters Junior Football Club Vs Ashton Boys so on that note I will simply finish with the fact that one day in the future we will play the Teds again in the league. I for one can't wait for that day to come....UTG!

Ref today

Post by bluestone on Sept 24, 2017 6:46:26 GMT
I don't think he was biased but the ref just kept getting played by the lightweight Blackpool players that would throw themselves to the ground whenever one of our lads so much as touched them.
That's poor play by Blackpool and nearly all those yellow cards we're poor decisions by the ref, no doubt about it for me.
After it kept happening again and again the crowd then reacted to the injustices by shouting abuse and singing that old classic "sh*t referee" (me included!) and I do wonder whether this may have made the ref even more inclined to give decisions in Blackpool's favour.
Quite rarely do any of our players dive which is a credit to our side as we really just want to play football and we're prepared to be physically strong with and without the ball, nothing wrong with that is there?
Quite interesting to see the difference between Nicholls and James from last season who are both quite small. James fell over at the touch of a feather whereas Nicholls does not.

My line up based on Tuesdays performance:
--------Slocombe--------
Parts--Broads--Sweens--Bola
----------Clarke----------
Bodin----------------Lines
---------Sercombe---------
---Telford------Gaffers----
Bola gets another start as he deserves it based on his performance.
Leads us rested, he played really well tbf but limped off.
Telford impressed for the little time he was on and I'd like to see him and Gaffers together as I think they could make a good partnership.
Clarke is not at his absolute best at the mo but should play imo as he is captain and can play defensive midfielder protecting the back four due to Locks absence.

Just got back. Fantastic performance by the lads, don't think anyone let themselves or the team down.
Billy Bob seems to have lost his magic at the moment.
Leads seems like he is starting to get his mojo back.
Broadbent did himself proud, even making a few decent runs forward.
Lines bossed the midfield, just wish he'd have a pop at goal occasionally and not be so predictable when taking the corners.
Good to see Sincs on the bench and warming up, we really need him back in the side.
Despite the result I really enjoyed the game and we were the better team for most of the match, god knows how we didn't score tbh!
Hopefully this will be a confidence builder moving forward as we must get a result on Saturday. UTG!

We put out a strong side against Fulham so I expect us to do the same against Wolves.
I do think it is an opportunity to give Bola another start though as he seems to be in good form.
Also I still feel that Telford has not really been given a decent chance, would be nice to bring him on as a sub but perhaps at the 60 mins mark not just for 5/10 mins at the end.
Edit: Telford sub assumes we manage to keep 11 players on the pitch. Lol!

I don't think it's the losses but the disappointment in the stadium not going ahead and the uncertainty that is around the club right now. I think that for many it has maybe been the final straw. If ever there were a time to get the on field team right then it's right now. I fear a bad season on top of not seeing anything happen with the infrastructure, could be a real disaster. I really hope DC and the team start to produce what we know they are capable of. Maybe but for me there has never been a better time to be a gashead. I think it's time for us to forget about UWE and places our trust in the board. Lots of conspiracies flying around about the owners but little truth. Hopefully good news about the colony will happen soon and we can forget about talk of Administration and selling the club. Thank f**k for that. The way we're defending set pieces at the moment I would have put a bet on him scoring a hat trick of headers against us!

I like Tom Lockyer as a good young player but I don't think he is a natural captain, We need a more forceful driver and organizer on the field. I also think his game has suffered since his appointment. Unfortunately I cant see anybody at the club who is captain material. Not sure I agree. Tom is a good Captain of the team IMO, yes he might not scream and shout like some captain's do but there's more than one way to be a leader, Tom leads by example and is the upmost professional in my eyes. In any event, if we look at our squad, for me no one else really stands out as a better candidate, the only person I think comes close to it is Browner. Ollie Clarke could become a future captain but I think he needs further development, DC has him as back up captain right now which i think will come good in the long run. Whilst Tom has been cap we've had some good success as a club, if it ain't broke then don't try and fix it!

Think I'd prefer to see Andre on the bench instead of Smith based on what happened on Tuesday! Pleased to see Bola getting a start, think Browner could do with a break. Would like to see Telford come on in place of Harrison later in the match. UTG! re keepers - in terms of man management it's a big of a no-no to do that unless an experienced player (with number 1 on his back) has some other issues / bad attitude etc. Was thinking more about the fact that Smith did not appear to be fully fit on Tuesday, on that basis I think he may have been brought back too soon.

Pre-Planning has to be carried out before full planning anyway. It took me 7 months to get a change of use on one of my industrial units and 2 months of that was waiting for pre planning applications to be sent, filed and then returned. I can't imagine how long it must all take for a complex as big as the colony. Basically pre-planning is a lot of questions asked of, are we allowed to do this? Can we do that? Are we allowed this in this area? Then once you have an outline of your dos and donts you submit full planning. It all takes time. Spot on, the planning process takes time and you are better off investing that time at the front end through a robust pre-application process than to run at it like a bull in a China shop and find yourself getting a refusal. I'm working on a large residential project right now (£70m +) that we made 5 pre-apps on to get to a point where we we're happy we had closed off as much planning risk as possible and engaged with all the relevant stakeholders along the way. That has taken us about 1.5 years.

For once a reasonable statement from SH (except for the bit about hiding in the bushes!).
I'm really looking forward to seeing the plans and feel that once they have submitted the planning application this will be a real sign of intent by our owners to invest in our club.
UTG! The futures bright, the futures blue and white!

Slocombe Lockyear Sweeney Broadbent Partington Lines Clarke Bola Bodin Sercombe Gaffney Much better more balance to the team and allows more attacking options and looks stronger at the back ! Yep, I like the look of that line up too.

If I were DC I would consider putting Bola in at RB, after all he did amazingly well there against Fulham. I'm not sure Leads is match fit yet so may need to be rested.
I would also like to see Telford given a chance.
Much as I don't rate Moore I think he will have to come in.
I think DC may want to save Parts and Nicholls for Saturday.
My starting 11:
Andre Bola / Locks / Sweeney / Brown Sercome / Clarke / Moore Bodin / Harrison / Telford
