He's got a lot closer and was top scorer at the Euro's. BUT, When it really, REALLY mattered, the old nerve went That one time yeah but I’m pretty sure he has a lot of tournament goals where as WR has only one WCup goal. br]WR burst in to the scene in the euros I think it was 2004 and was brilliant but never really did much else in the other tournaments he played in. Kane on the other hand has been consistently good in major tournaments and the only black mark is one missed penalty which as we all know can happen.

I hope we stay up; unfortunately, the way we are playing, letting in sloppy goals, poor matchday discipline, and with no strikers currently able to find the net, I am not sure where or when the next point is coming from. Lets hope Joe Barton can work some magic, as we will need imo at least another 7 - 10 points, hmm. To be fair we’ve scored 6 in our last two away games it just feels really crappy at the moment because we’ve been terrible at home.

I think it’s down to a few things. Last season coutts and Whelan were good enough as holding mids for league 2 but this season step up a league combined with a year older they’ve been poor. Rossiter was great - out for season when we were 8th We had Anderson last season- not replaceable We had Taylor last season - haven’t replaced him. Constant changes of formation ( last season we stuck with one formation from Christmas onwards.) Injuries to injury prone players. Overal I think we’ve been ok and as long as we stay up then it’s mission accomplished. Yeah I am with you. I guess my personal hopes were a little higher than just staying up. But of course will take that. But I agree to with the comment earlier in this thread, this summer's recruitment will be crucial to further our ambitions. We cannot keep recruiting half crocked (but good) players be and hope it will be "alright". We cannot, surely then rely on another to recruitment campaign 4 months later to bail us out. Time will tell, but in the interim, let's just get the 50 points. Please. It certainly feels like we’re not as strong as last season but then we’re playing in a higher division. Last seasons squad might be bottom now they certainly had a crap first half to the season , but we’ll never know.

What did you expect from this season Oldie ? We’re doing as well as Port Vale & Exeter who came up with us last season and a lot better than Forest Green . Finishing in the middle third of the division would be a decent season in my books . I guess I was hoping for signs of clear progression. I never thought we would achieve promotion (although, like everyone else I hoped for it), but after the storming end to last season and the momentum gained from that, clear progression. In my head to finish 10th would be a good sign of that. But this is season so far has been like a yo yo. A crap start, a very good Autumn and early winter, only to descend to crap again from mid December on. What is it, one goal scored in the last seven home games? I think. As it stands we are ten points off of 10th and ten points off the relegation zone. One month our forwards score for fun, the next month they cannot score for toffee...our defence, well it's been laughable at times hasn't it. I believe we will get the 50 points we need, but it is disappointing to be "hoping" to achieve that target still at the end of March. I think it’s down to a few things. Last season coutts and Whelan were good enough as holding mids for league 2 but this season step up a league combined with a year older they’ve been poor. Let’s just hope him giving up on another season doesn’t end with another relegation. weird behaviour when he called out a player on Tuesday for not trying. It’s ok for him tho If you think Barton criticising Collins was bad have seen Contes rant yesterday, makes Barton look like an angel. Bottom line is all mgrs do it to a greater or lesser extent, don't why folk get so vexed about it. Personally I find Barton calling out individual players in his post match strange but acceptable if that’s his way fair enough. What I find bizarre and surely damaging is talk of how he wants the season to end now. That honestly has really watered me off. Hopefully the players don’t feel the same and because we are not 100% safe.

Have you suddenly had enough Percy ? Or have you been in the Barton camp out a while ? Genuine question it’s just that we seem to agree on most things and I’m starting to really go off him myself after his post match comments yesterday particularly about him wanting the season to end now.

Gordon is a waste of space. He can't tackle, he keeps getting caught out of position and can't kick with his right foot. You were equally scathing in your assessment of Tom Lockyer. Hopefully you’re wrong again and Gordon will also be chasing promotion to the premier league and be picking up international caps in a few years !!! I agree writing off Gordon is crazy , this is his first full season of professional football ffs !

Barton’s post match interview was as embarrassing as the officials performance today. “I just want the season to be over …. “ - Still hasn’t accepted we aren’t safe yet. … Just don’t know if I still back him - bored with him blaming everyone constantly. Effort error for Joseph Barton. You cant call out a player on Tuesday and then on Saturday say you cant be arsed with the season no matter how watered of he might be Very good point.

What the hells he playing at saying he wants the season to be over ?!! If he really said that then that’s gross negligence with a 5th of the season left. Also As a player that’s the last thing you’d want or expect your manager to say. I don't think the players listen to, or read, Barton in the media. If you see your manager at work every day, would you want to listen to him on the radio and read about him/her in your spare time? Dunno but if that’s his opinion then obviously it will come across in his mentality regardless so therefore it’s irrelevant whether the players watch the post match interview. To be fair we’ve been here before haven’t we ? Ten games left - weren’t going down - Barton writing off the season and we lost pretty much every game. And went down. He’s a very strange man.

It just feels like we’re playing against 12 men (14 if you include the linesmen ) in pretty much every game with Barton as manager. It’s doing my bloody head in. Agree but not sure it’s the Barton effect. I remember referees being a problem under Coughlan too. For some reason they don’t seem to like Bristol Rovers. Wasn’t there today but honestly every game it seems that the first time a foul gets given against us the chant goes up “ sh** ref weve got another sh** ref “ These officials are not professional and I have absolutely no doubt that this chant works against us. Why water the ref off early on ffs. I do think there is a Barton effect too though 100%

Hardly anything new in Barton not engaging brain before gob He sets us up all wrong, that’s the problem. He needs to concentrate on the basics and making us hard to beat rather than chucking on endless forwards in the vain hope we score first and hold on We are by no means safe yet, and our home record is abysmal. Keep your mouth shut Joey and get the work done on the training ground. Are you a good coach or not? Not on recent performances at home. You have some talent in this squad no doubt but throwing players under the bus and blaming everyone else is wearing thin with me UTG I spent the first half of last season pulling my hair out and saying on here every week that he was setting us up wrong and that we had the players to play four at the back not 3 because we had no natural wingbacks and coutts and Finley were perfect to sit in front of a back four with Evans as an attacking midfielder in a 4231 formation. He stumbled upon that formation around Christmas and stuck with it and we won promotion. This season we’ve blatantly looked at our best with the same formation , it’s basically 451 without the ball and 4231 with the ball, the squad has changed a bit yes but we’ve still got the players for it and when we’ve played that way we’ve been decent and picked up results. Footballs a simple game made complicated by coaches is a saying and I think at league 1 level it’s more easily complicated than at the higher levels.

At times it makes me feel I wish he wasn’t manager which generally goes against how I feel because I think he’s done well. He has done well. Albeit in a strange way. Strange times.

Should be safe. But we do have a tough run-in....
I said last week we probably need another 3-4 points. I think we’ll get them but until we do we’re not safe.

More shocking officiating. Sounds like we were playing well before the goal too.

Looks like a narrow 433 again. Not keen on this formation at all.

Subbed on at HT last night and made a huge impact. Felt for the lad as his first prem goal was chalked off for offside though. Amazing second half performance. Should have had a stonewall pen, then a terrific volley which the keeper managed to palm over the bar and his goal should have stood, I cannot believe they chalked it off, it was a brilliant header. Full of running, his positioning and passing was first rate. The kid will play for England no doubt about that. Or Scotland.

Collins hasn’t been playing well lately but I haven’t seen a lack of effort , things just haven’t been coming off for him. Perhaps making him captain when he’s clearly not captain material has effected his game? Probably. So far I like the majority of what Barton has done here but I’ve got a gut feeling that soon things are going to go tits up. To be honest I’ve always thought that they will and I’ll hold my hands up and say he’s held things together albeit in a rather strange way longer than I thought he would and I’m delighted with that because it means we’ve been reasonably successful but I just think Barton is the kind of character that will never last long in one particular place / job just because of the kind of bizarre character he is. But if he left tomorrow then he’d have been a fairly successful manager by Rovers standards. And probably the strangest one too.

Seems to me that we’re a better side when we play less forwards not more. 4-5-1 is our best formation which becomes more of a 4231 when we’re attacking. 433 narrow worked v FGreen but they’re crap it doesn’t seem to work against anyone half decent.

I f*cking hate Wycombe! We should be out of sight! I don’t see how we should have been out of sight tbh. Did their keeper have to make a save all game ? Strange changes at half time , I thought we were playing quite well first half and it was only Bogarde mistake that had cost us. We didn’t seem to have any shape in the second half at all. Barton guilty of going too attacking again, when is he going to learn that going so attacking player heavy doesn’t work against the better sides !
