Weird how people can see things so differently. The calmness belly brought to the defence was everthinh balcombe wasn’t. And when our defence who were excellent today failed, he saved us. Everything balcombe wasn’t. In joeys defence. He has got belly back to his best. MoM Gibson, Balguard or Marquis tho. Personally I don’t think Belshaw has played any better or worse for being dropped and I didn’t expect him to either.

Barnsley’s crosses / corners were brilliant , right in to the danger zone and Belly and his defence struggled with them all afternoon but didn’t concede and got the job done. Clean sheet. 2 games back - 2 clean sheets. Look in the book my friend. Look In The Book. 2 clean sheets you are right but he so nearly cost us with his flapping. Sometimes you need a bit of luck and he certainly got that today. I personally think the return of Gibson is the major factor and Connelly is dropped as he has made huge errors all season and looks a shade of the player from last year just like Evans. All about opinions this game. Yeah you’re right it is all about opinions. In my opinion there are many reasons we’ve relied on the brilliance of Belshaw over the last 2 seasons , some of them are down to the gung ho tactical ways that we play at times and some are down to individual mistakes in defence and midfield and also at times down to injuries in key defensive areas without having adequate cover for those positions, but our keepers been brilliant 99% of the time. Without his player of the season performances last season we’d never have won promotion and if Barton had dropped him earlier in the season and not brought him back in we would be in a relegation scrap now m. Glad Barton’s worked out what the problems actually were, it’s frustrating because as fans the majority of us could see what our defensive frailties were this season and last.

I don’t get this Belshaw poor distribution thing at all. With the ball at his feet there isn’t a better goalkeeper in the division and consistently finds rovers players in difficult situations where most keepers at this level would either smash it out for a throw or not even come for it then find themselves in a 50/50 which would end up in a goal conceded half of the time. He’s a sweeper keeper who is an excellent shot stopper and had another fantastic game today. Belshaw was never the problem . The problems with our goals against were…. Coutts out of form Finley injured or out of form Rossiter injured Not replacing Taylor Gibson out injured a lot Playing too attacking when we should have seen games out with better game management. Starting games far too attacking particularly away and playing way too open with a high line without quick players at the back who could cover balls over the top/ through balls. All of these things contributed more to our poor goals against tally way more than Belshaws performances and that’s not just this season is it I mean we won promotion and he won player of the season last season when we were very open at the back and conceding loads of chances and that’s with Taylor and connelly forming a good partnership !! V Ipswich and Barnsley we set up how anyone in their right mind with a bit of tactical knowledge would do and we were fine and kept clean sheets. Belly was hung out to dry and I respect him even more than I did before because he’s bounced back and I don’t think he’s improved I think he’s the same old Belshaw but Barton’s realised it wasn’t Bekshaw that was the problem and sorted out the things that were the problem. At least he got there. I will pull you up with your Belshaw view as today i kept a close eye on his performance and I done this due to being very critical of our fans for there treatment of Balcombe which was out of order. Belshaw today kicked the ball straight into touch 4/5 times and punted it straight to there keeper twice. The save he made in the 1st half tipping over the bar was due to him coming twice and failing to get anywhere near a cross in a crowded box so caused the problem. Just after that he got very lucky flapping at a cross which lucky fell straight back to him. He made a good save one on one and everything he did in the 2nd half was routine and shots were straight at him. Yes he is a good sweeper keeper but he is nowhere near the top 10 keepers in the league. I love Belshaw and what he brings to the team enabling us to play higher up the pitch but he also has plenty of faults but noone gives him a hard time. If Balcombe had made those errors he would have got dog abuse from the Thatchers and I feel is no worse the Belshaw. Anyway that's just my opinion but so glad we seem to be gelling in the middle of the park and Bogarde is going to be some player who is impressing me the more he plays. Great team effort today and shows we can challenge any team in this league and give them a game (unless they are in the bottom 4) Barnsley’s crosses / corners were brilliant , right in to the danger zone and Belly and his defence struggled with them all afternoon but didn’t concede and got the job done. Clean sheet. 2 games back - 2 clean sheets. Look in the book my friend. Look In The Book.

Don’t ban him. You can’t ban somebody for being childish and irritating. Can you ? I find him and the responses from other posters to his ways quite entertaining. But mods do what you feel is right. UTG.

A win 2 draws and a defeat from our last 5 games. Barton lost the plot for a few weeks which is always likely to happen when Joe Barton is your manager but he’s put James Belshaw one of the best goalkeepers around at this level back in and brought in a couple of good loans they both played well again today and we’ve stopped the rot and played very well today. A lot around me saying they expected Barnsley to be better but I think if you look at the table and their form they are better but we stopped them and credit to us for that. Fantastic performance today and everyone bar Collins played well , if it had been every player he would have scored and we would have won but he’s been class for us so hey ho and on to Forest Green Rangers. Yor maffs is teraball Ok four games, but it’s mid table form, which is my point.🤣

Just seen the Luke Thomas post-match interview. Said there was only going to be one winner... them. Even worse he then called us Bristol 1 winner, what a twat Even game that we shaded up until last 20 where it felt like we were hanging on. Over the 90 I thought we were the better side.

Good all round performance today, Belshaws kicking was a bit hit and miss but Finley ran off his injury in the second half that I thought would stop him, Ward, Hoole and big John impressed. I don’t get this Belshaw poor distribution thing at all. Everytime I’ve bought a homeless person a sandwhich they’ve complained that they dont like Cheese or that they’re vegetarian- can’t eat ham etc. I’ve given up on doing that now. Gave up on GGMI years ago. Petulant manchild. You’re too kind, I just thought he was a twat. Attack the post not the twat.

Solid performance, draw was probably fair although we were hanging on a little bit at the end. Belly and the back four were superb, Quansah and Gibson are quality footballers and Hoole was really impressive too. Midfield all performed well - really liking Ward as he gets more minutes under his belt - will be a big player for us over the remaining months of the season. The front three were a little below par in terms of goal threat but all worked hard for the team. Possibly the worst game Collins has had in a long time but he’s built up more than enough credit with his performances over the past year! Plenty to be positive about. Hopefully take this into next week and see things click in the final third. Three points and we’ll be looking up the table again rather than over our shoulders. Good shout regarding Ward- I was really impressed with him today , took a shot clean to the face point blank got up shook it off no physio got on with it. With coutts aging we need people like that in midfield , I know he’s got an injury history but doesn’t shirk tackles , gets stuck in , just what we need with Rossiter out for the season.

Five points from our last eight matches possible 24 scoring just five goals in that period three were last Saturday and twelve condeded so while we have tightened up last two matches our home record is still pretty poor A win 2 draws and a defeat from our last 5 games. Yet Barnsley have only scored 2 more goals than us, and thats after scoring 11 in their last 3 games before today and we've been on a barren run until last Saturday.
Belters indeed.
It gets worse, one of them now thinks they should have won 4-0 "Thinking back there were two or three good chances where a player is in the box facing the goal and the ball at his feet. Add the clear penalty that wasn't given then another 4-0 away win should have been achieved"Off his rocker that bloke. We were marginally the better side for the first 70 minutes them the last 25 but a draw is a fair result from a game where the keepers and defences were on top throughout.

Some right belters on the Barnsley forum; "Bristol booked for time wasting at home and their not even winning. Embarrassing"
"Horrible to watch ,how can they pay to watch this every week?"
"Miserable game played against an awful team"Only one team trying to play football today and it wasnt the dirty northerners Yet Barnsley have only scored 2 more goals than us, and thats after scoring 11 in their last 3 games before today and we've been on a barren run until last Saturday.
Belters indeed.

Great defensive performance, unfortunately Collins was off of his game because for 70 minutes we were the better side. Great result , mixing it with the big clubs just got to do it v the sh** teams now- on to FGR

If VAR was here we’d be winning v 10 men. But it’s 0-0 v 12 men.

Hopefully it’ll be more of a 451 like the Ipswich game. If we play open today we could well get smashed 433. I’d bite anyone’s arm off for a point now.

What have I missed ? Had a quick scroll through the posts and some are talking about the fruit market like it’s going ahead and some are talking about the Mem like we’re redeveloping it ? Anything concrete to any of this I haven’t seen anything in the news ?

Hoole is one of our youngsters who we have persevered with despite ,imho, some' shortcomings', I have concerns about his defensive work and did throughout his rise up the ranks ,though a gifted footballer it is difficult to define his best position. I am pleased we have persevered with him and just wish one or two others had been given the same oppertunity to prove themselves. Last season at right back he was brilliant and I think that when played at right back this season he’s been decent too. At centre back or as a wing back in a 352 he’s been poor but that could be said for most of them in that formation. Barton found the golden formation last Christmas over a year ago but he seemed to forget about it over the summer and then try different formations without any success. The last three games it’s been more like last season and we’ve picked up 4 points.

The bottoms sides are so bad the only team they manage to beat is us, and we only have FGR to play from that lot. It will take a lot for us to go down although not impossible Expect the unexpected. Yeah I expect at least 2 of the 7 from Oxford down to Cambridge to go on a run and pull up to mid table and at least 2 who think they’re safe to fall like a stone and end up in the scrap. Why ? Because it always happens. Rovers just need to make sure it’s not us. I think our run in is probably the hardest of all but that COULD work in our favour as we seem to raise out game against the bigger clubs at home and this season doesn’t look any different. We beat Peterborough and drew v Ipswich and Plymouth and the rest of the top 10 we still have to play - all at home I think ?

Stop worrying peeps. Going on last season we would now be safe. Admittedly a very low tally last season but their does seem again a divide between the top teams and bottom teams. I don't think we will need anything like 52 points like someone suggests above. I think 45 would be enough to be sure this season. I remember us saying that 2 years ago and then Burton and a few other sides went on crazy runs. And we fell like a stone. Obviously our manager and players are way more professional than you and will certainly not be thinking they’re already safe. So we should be fine.
