If he does come back personally don't think he will but if he does how many extra season tickets do you think we would sell because of him??? Instead of the usual 5-6k, I'd say about 8 or 9k.

each player is different, re mentality, what they want, desire to play, the level they want to play at, what other irons they have in the fire, family situation, (e.g. kids happy at a local school ?)
so many variables.
and at his age people often looking to future - next career? inside or outside football? coaching? doing badges?
I think he might struggle to get close to what he might like unless he can control what he wants (e.g. doing something on his own, such as doing his badges and not playing)

I'm not bothered either way, but if he wants to play football he has to lower his wage demands by a very long way. He must be set for life so hardly needs to be on the crazy money anymore. Why not just ask for a lot less to get games? I find it all a bit tacky. Was about to reply that before I saw you did. I agree - surely he'd take a pay cut to come to a club that meant so much to him, and (arguably) got him noticed in the professional game. I would welcome him with open arms if he came back to play football for a decent wage rather than chase the big bucks. Who knows, we may well be surprised.

Sadly Ricky has using DC's terms a "full belly" - he just is not "hungry" anymore. But it is great to dream!

If Cardiff settled his contract (which still had a year to run) in full or came to a reasonable settlement maybe he won't be looking for mega bucks and could be affordable. Whether DC would want him or not is another issue.

I think Lambo still has lots to offer. What an inspiration for the younger players to be able to watch and learn from him in training too. A signing like this would be a statement of intent and could possibly convince other good players to sign.
EDIT: And this is written by someone not usually in favour of signing former players!

Phil Brown talking about signing Michael Kightly. The same could apply to us signing RL.
"I think it's a massive signing," boss Phil Brown said. "As far as I'm concerned, the more quality and ex-Premier League experienced players we can bring to the football club, it emphasises one the statement of intent from us and two where we want to go.
"The players that I'm bringing in know what it's like to play at a higher level and if they can drag every ounce of effort and quality from the players that we've already got at the football club to try and get us there, then it's job done."

I have posted this before if we can get Rickie to sign he will add great experience to our side that really it is missing.
Many other clubs making the same sort of signings. Millwall be the obvious one off top of my head with Morrison up front.
With Lambert and another young striker who has lots of pace I think we could be on to something.

The striker with pace, good finishing and some experience is the key one for me. Lambert would be an alternative/replacement for Gaffney.

Wael has already tweeted a fan saying Lambert is "not an option" for DC.

Our current strike force leaves me with no confidence that we'll do well this season! In fact i think we'll find ourselves in a dog fight as i cant see us scoring goals.
Take taylors goals away from us last season and we would of been no where near where we finished.
Sign up lambert its garenteed goals until we can find another player to come in and fill the boots.

Perhaps you are right about no confidence in current strike force wrongside but DC has always said he will sign strikers so I have full confidence he will. Lambert would be great, in some ways but despite his great history, on balance I would say no. We had people beginning to panic over GK last week now that has been addressed. We have to trust DC and he won't have our feelings for Ricky. I can't disagree with any of those who say how good he is and how he could help our current strike force, I just dont think it will happen. We will just have to rely on that goal against the other lot which sent us to the Millenium. Not a bad way to remember him! UTG!
ps and you can never guarantee goals would happen, it doesn't work like that. Thinking and hoping he would score goals is a different matter.

Not sure I'd agree with this. Of course we'll miss his goals but we got as many points after he left as we did when he was here. The problem before he left was we needed to score 3 to win once Sweeney & Lumley arrived & we tightened up we started to win without having to score a boat load.

Why would Gaffney have to leave in order to sign Lambert? - I am not sure I understand that bit As both can't play as CF? lambert played with walker mainly???

As both can't play as CF? lambert played with walker mainly??? Walker was more a No 10 than CF although no reason Gaffers couldn't play that role, although it's unlikely Lambert would be up to playing 90 mins twice a week anyway, although if Wael's saying he's not option there's no point in discussing it further. Lets just hope he doesn't sign for Pompey or Oxford etc and then score 20+ goals and help them to promotion or the play offs.

Wael has already tweeted a fan saying Lambert is "not an option" for DC. Where is this, I can't find it - certainly not recently anyway. If it was a while back then perhaps it wasn't an option then - a lot has changed now
