www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2017/june/checkatradetrophy1718/16 U21 teams are entering the EFL Trophy this year, including newcomers Fulham, Man City, Tottenham and Newcastle. I'm still inclined to boycott the games as Shaun Harvey is still insisting the experiment is a success, ignoring the widespread disquiet amongst L1 & L2 supporters. The attendance at the Coventry/Oxford final unfortunately papering over the cracks. Thoughts?

Have they got rid of the rule about L1 and L2 teams making changes too many changes to their sides? That was the most ridiculous thing of it all. Punishing teams for playing their young English talent in a competition that's supposed to promote young English talent.

Glad you've made the observation that attending games in this competition will dictate its future and hats off to you for boycotting. If you care about protecting the future of the lower leagues and preserving the long term interests of clubs such as ours, then I think boycotting is the only way.

I'll find the rules, but I think the answer to your question is yes, the rules on player changes have been softened. There are plenty of daft stats about L1 & L2 teams playing young English players being fined, whilst the U21 teams fielded over 21 foreigners. I think assurances have also been given that this is not the thin end of the wedge for U21 teams entering the League, but the EFL and Shaun Harvey in particular don't seem very trustworthy to me. This is compounded by the Checkatrade chairman aggressively confronting dissenters on Twitter.

I'd suggest boycott and donate so the club don't lose out too much financially, but will admit I just boycotted last year.

It's the future unless supporters like us speak out and do not engage with competitions including U23/B teams. That's the reality. I wonder how long it'll be before clubs in League Two rest players in the league games and field their strongest sides in EFL Trophy games given the increased prize money at stake.

I believe there was a rule about players with over c100 appearences being exempt from the rules which is why Mildy and Manse are being Registered as players. Wonder if DC and Marcus Stewart would be tempted like Wycombes manager did
