Godden and Nichols would be an interesting pairing ..... Marquis and Madden would be heaven for me.
I would say though that the way Peterboroughs owner has conducted himself is very very poor ... complete lack of class and makes me appreciate a bit more the silence from our guy.

Im not saying signing any of the 4 mentioned would be a disaster but marquis and godden have only ever had one good goal scoring league season in there whole careers and madden scored one more than ellis last season despite playing in a better side than rovers so "heaven" might be a touch over the top?

McCann insists Nichols is in no hurry to leave an exciting, attacking team Peterborough United manager Grant McCann insists wanted striker Tom Nichols is in no hurry to leave the club. The Peterborough Telegraph revealed yesterday League One rivals Bristol Rovers had made another bid for the 23 year-old. But Nichols played the second half of today’s (July 15) 4-2 friendly defeat at home to QPR. He set up a second goal for strike partner Junior Morias. McCann was asked about Rovers’ bid after today’s match and replied: “Nothing’s happened. Tom is still our player. He is willing to stay as he likes it here. “He played well in the first two friendlies, but may be he was a little distracted today. He still set up a goal with a great pass though.” www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/posh/match-reaction-mccann-insists-nichols-is-in-no-hurry-to-leave-an-exciting-attacking-team-1-8058115/amp

Hope this isn't going to develop into another James Constable type saga - where did that end up? Where/who is the second striker I wonder - presumably Nichols was one of his main targets from the start of his 'search'. It won't because DCisnt like that. Our fans are still living in fear that we're going to make the kind of mistakes that we did under the likes of buckle McGhee and Ward but look at what we've done under DC. The constable saga was typical of the balls up that was our club at the time but we are totally different now .

An article from 6 years ago...
Exeter City youth product Tom Nichols is targeting more first-team appearances next season after the 'amazing experience' of making his senior debut at Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
The 17-year-old striker says he was shocked to be named as a substitute in the 2-1 win at Hillsborough on the final day of the season.
So it was even more of a surprise when he was told by manager Paul Tisdale that he would be replacing Bertie Cozic at half-time and playing in a front three alongside Jamie Cureton and Daniel Nardiello.
Now the former Twyford Spartans youngster is determined to build on his unexpected opportunity and press his claims for a first-team spot next term.
"It was amazing and it couldn't have happened at a better place," said Nichols. "As I got into the changing rooms before the game, the manager said that I would be a substitute, which I really wasn't expecting.
"It didn't give me that much time to be nervous and it was an amazing feeling just be told I would be on the bench.
"I wasn't expecting to come on as early as I did, but all the coaches wished me good luck.
"I didn't realise how loud it would be until I got on to the pitch. I found the pace of the game OK – in the first ten minutes I was breathing quite heavily and my calves were hurting – but it settled down and I was okay after that.
"I didn't give the ball away with my first touch, which was a relief because that gave me confidence.
"Hopefully next year I can come in pre-season and do really well and get more chances like this.
"If you had said to me at the start of the season that I would be making my debut at Sheffield Wednesday I would have said you were lying. It was just an amazing experience."
Nichols has been with the Grecians since he was 11 and worked his way through the youth academy ranks.
He has just completed a two-year scholarship and was recently awarded, along with Roger Ingham and Jake Gosling, a one-year professional deal.
Nichols is well aware of City's record in developing young talent, with George Friend, Dean Moxey and Danny Seaborne all coming through the youth ranks and moving on to bigger clubs.
He views Exeter lad Liam Sercombe – the latest to be promoted from the academy into the first-team – as the perfect player to emulate.
"There are loads of players who have been here and gone on to bigger and better things, so you never know," said Nichols.
"You are not a million miles away from the ability they have got. But you have to put the work in because hard work gets you a long way.
"Liam Sercombe is someone to look up to because he has done really well to become a first-team regular.
"This is a club that gives youth a chance and hopefully I will get that chance as well.
"I just want to develop my game next season. Marcus [Stewart] has given me a lot of tips and he is someone I can really learn from."

But I thought the fans were getting on his back a bit, even in pre-season, hence wanting to move? "Is the reason he asked for a move because of us fans alone?" DMac: "A massive factor yep.

a LOT of linkages there - Jake Gosling, Sercombe, Marcus Stewart. Plus Andy Tillson I guess. And West Country. Not 100% important but these things do often help players settle.

Their fanbase, like ours and most others, probably have their fair share of idiots and the player obviously split opinion. I could see Ellis leaving for the same reason and then a lot of people talking on here about what great potential he had. I just hope the positive fans drown out the negative idiots in the crowd in the case of both Ellis and Nichols.
