Credit where credit is due that is a great signing. 4 or 5 to go and we will be in business.

The club historian is suggesting the fee was likely £300k, which would make him the club's record fee for a striker, higher than Lambert.

An article from 6 years ago... Exeter City youth product Tom Nichols is targeting more first-team appearances next season after the 'amazing experience' of making his senior debut at Sheffield Wednesday last weekend. The 17-year-old striker says he was shocked to be named as a substitute in the 2-1 win at Hillsborough on the final day of the season. So it was even more of a surprise when he was told by manager Paul Tisdale that he would be replacing Bertie Cozic at half-time and playing in a front three alongside Jamie Cureton and Daniel Nardiello. Now the former Twyford Spartans youngster is determined to build on his unexpected opportunity and press his claims for a first-team spot next term. "It was amazing and it couldn't have happened at a better place," said Nichols. "As I got into the changing rooms before the game, the manager said that I would be a substitute, which I really wasn't expecting. "It didn't give me that much time to be nervous and it was an amazing feeling just be told I would be on the bench. "I wasn't expecting to come on as early as I did, but all the coaches wished me good luck. "I didn't realise how loud it would be until I got on to the pitch. I found the pace of the game OK – in the first ten minutes I was breathing quite heavily and my calves were hurting – but it settled down and I was okay after that. "I didn't give the ball away with my first touch, which was a relief because that gave me confidence. "Hopefully next year I can come in pre-season and do really well and get more chances like this. "If you had said to me at the start of the season that I would be making my debut at Sheffield Wednesday I would have said you were lying. It was just an amazing experience." Nichols has been with the Grecians since he was 11 and worked his way through the youth academy ranks. He has just completed a two-year scholarship and was recently awarded, along with Roger Ingham and Jake Gosling, a one-year professional deal. Nichols is well aware of City's record in developing young talent, with George Friend, Dean Moxey and Danny Seaborne all coming through the youth ranks and moving on to bigger clubs. He views Exeter lad Liam Sercombe – the latest to be promoted from the academy into the first-team – as the perfect player to emulate.
"There are loads of players who have been here and gone on to bigger and better things, so you never know," said Nichols.
"You are not a million miles away from the ability they have got. But you have to put the work in because hard work gets you a long way.
"Liam Sercombe is someone to look up to because he has done really well to become a first-team regular.
"This is a club that gives youth a chance and hopefully I will get that chance as well.
"I just want to develop my game next season. Marcus [Stewart] has given me a lot of tips and he is someone I can really learn from."
a LOT of linkages there - Jake Gosling, Sercombe, Marcus Stewart. Plus Andy Tillson I guess. And West Country. Not 100% important but these things do often help players settle. Another link - could Danny Seaborne be the one to fill the left sided central defender role?

Connor @cpufchatton Did we make profit on what we signed him for Darragh MacAnthony @dmac102 What do you think? I'm thinking that means no. He prides himself on making a profit on players so the fact he's answered a question with a question tells me that's the easy way out. I'm sure he'd have given a much more definite answer to boost his already inflated ego if they had made a profit on him.

That's what they think Posh paid Exeter for him last year, not what we've had to pay. If we've paid a similar amount then it's a good investment imo.

I meant I couldn't see that we paid more than £250k for him meaning I can't see that Posh would've made a profit.

That's definitely meant to be a rhetorical question - implying that they absolutely did! Reckon we paid 300k ish for him, so let's hope he finds the sort of form Taylor did...

not going to get carried away, because it is just 1 player, but it is encouraging enough that we are making these signings and give me more hope for biggest elephant in the room that is to be discussed tomorrow. Really hope a deal is struck. Our attractiveness as a club will rocket.
