How about that dingbat Chewbacca. Looks like he's taking on 66 gasheads sometime soon.

Many, many, many moons ago I played in a pre-season friendly for Mangotsfield v Rovers in Thornbury (Maundy Playing Fields??). During the game, I nutmegged Steve Harding, and with the confidence of youth, I gave it a very loud "LEGS!" shout. The crowd loved it and laughed and cheered. About thirty seconds later, when the ball was well away from us, I heard him whisper in my lughole, "do that again and I'll break your feckin leg!". One of my former bosses played in a charity match in Manc. Playing in the other team was Colin Bell, and to "prove" he could play a bit, my boss went into Bell with an early crunching tackle. All Bell said was "If you want the ball that badly son, you can have it !".

Sweeney alongside Larry Lloyd as central defenders for me as much as I admired Billy Clarke. Ronnie Briggs possibly in goal. Parsons and Jacobs as full backs. A midfield of Godfrey, Pritchard, Prince and Pipe and upfront Devon White and Aflie (elbows*) Biggs.
* Chatted to an old Gillingham player some years ago who said he always remembered Alfie's elbows.

well done OP - interesting topic and good team!
Can't agree that Tillson or Clark (as much as I love them) were in anyway that tough.
A couple from me...
- having met Christian McClean it was interesting what he said to me about what defenders used to get up to / get a way with in the lae 80s/ early 90's - a very, very physical game! He was a CB until being converted to a forward, and was taller than Bruno.
- he was only on loan but Kevin Moore was hard.
- Didn't play much for us but Julian Alsop was the man whose challenge led to Scott Bevan having a kidney removed.
- I seem to remember Lewis Hogg getting a lot of red cards in his career!
- james Hunt
- Andy Rammell
- Shocked no-one has mentioned Jocky yet. it got so bad that before City derby games Gerry Francis used to get them to practice playing with 10 men, so they'd know what to do when Jocky was sent off!
and as others have mentioned, Ronnie mauge, Jason perry, Pritch, Big Dev, to name just a few

But somehow the keyboard didn't get the message - old age creeping in ! The hardest footballer I ever met without doubt was Mick Harford. He asked me for directions outside the Mem a few years back. His face was all battered and lumpy from nutting centre halves - would have made Tyson think twice. Thanks for the comments - another similar thread is in the offing.
