well done OP - interesting topic and good team! Can't agree that Tillson or Clark (as much as I love them) were in anyway that tough. A couple from me... - having met Christian McClean it was interesting what he said to me about what defenders used to get up to / get a way with in the lae 80s/ early 90's - a very, very physical game! He was a CB until being converted to a forward, and was taller than Bruno. - he was only on loan but Kevin Moore was hard. - Didn't play much for us but Julian Alsop was the man whose challenge led to Scott Bevan having a kidney removed. - I seem to remember Lewis Hogg getting a lot of red cards in his career! - james Hunt - Andy Rammell - Shocked no-one has mentioned Jocky yet. it got so bad that before City derby games Gerry Francis used to get them to practice playing with 10 men, so they'd know what to do when Jocky was sent off! and as others have mentioned, Ronnie mauge, Jason perry, Pritch, Big Dev, to name just a few I put Jocky on my handwritten list - in fact he was the first name I thought of. But somehow the keyboard didn't get the message - old age creeping in ! The hardest footballer I ever met without doubt was Mick Harford. He asked me for directions outside the Mem a few years back. His face was all battered and lumpy from nutting centre halves - would have made Tyson think twice. Thanks for the comments - another similar thread is in the offing.
you did have it on your list - I meant that no-one else mentioned him, as like you wrote, he would be in the top 3 of most people's lists I reckon.

Jocky used to terrorise c*ty's winger David Smith(I think?), so much so that I remember at Twerton, Smith was about to stop the ball going at for a throw-in in front of the popular side (not a comfortable place for him at the best of times), when he could see Jocky steaming in and even though he could easily have got to the ball first he just froze and let it run out of play for a Rovers throw. Hilarious. There was also that time at trashton in a Gloucester cup game where he had taken issue with something Smith had done or said and decided to stamp on his head while he was on the floor. He just turned around and started heading straigh for the tunell without bothering to see the ref show the red card (at least that's how I remember it from the open end - YouTube footage, if there is any, may show my memory up!).
"Jocky's gonna get you!" - my second favourite player to Bruno from that time.

Anyone remember Jocky winking at us when we were defending a corner at them down the road, can't recall why now, pretty sure we won though, definitely didn't lose though.
Will you ever beat the gas.

I bet Jock could tell some stories from his playing days. He could never resist a dig in the ribs or a sly elbow as the ball was shepherding a ball out for a goal kick or throw in. No-one ever got the better of him in a 50-50 tackle. Did it all with a sense of fun too. If the games back then we're referees under today's rules he would barely ever have stayed on the pitch for longer than 5 minutes.
