Not sure about the rest of you but I am getting bored of all the takeover rubbish so thought i would ask the question, what are your memories of Eastville...I'll start with a few;
Getting hit on the head by a bench seat on the North Enclosure by Millwall Fans
Beating Leicester in the FA Cup
Watching the Xmas Carol Bus stop on the M32
Getting on the pitch from the Tote End after our last game of the season to Cardiff, only to run back into the Tote End after seeing their fans running towards us
Watching Micky Barretts final game stood amongst the Millwall fans on the Muller Road after being given free tickets from School
Stood at the back of a packed Tote End. What an atmosphere.

Playing Villa when they had half the Tote End with a line of coppers to separate us, what an atmosphere. Stick Andy Lockhead on the top the Christmas tree.....

Feeling a warm glow as I stood on the Tote End as a 12 year old without my Dad for the first time, only to realise that warmth came from the bladdered knuckle dragging skinhead behind me, who had been watering down my back for the previous minute.

1.Drawing 4-4 with Leeds after being 4 down at HT.Front page headlines on the next day's Evening World. 2.Being in the then record crowd v PNE Cup game when Tom Finney played and then I had to leave early to do my paper round in Totterdown. 3.My first ever game v Forest.Sept' '55. Won 4-1. There was a slogan in later years when crowds diminished ,'The Faithful 5000'. 4.Oscar.

My favourite memories are of the night matches in the league cup in the 70’s My God, those were happy days....great memories of a time when life seems so much simplier. This is why I think it's a shame that we can't persuade more fans to take an interest in the way the club is run today and try to get Rovers back to the situation we were then when we felt secure, confident and ready to take on anybody. My favourite amongst all those wonderful nights was when Bobby Jones scored twice to beat Newcastle 2-1. It did seem simpler and it's tempting to think it's because we were young but, like many I guess, I went to those matches at Eastville with my dad and uncles who had seen the really good times in the fifties but they weren't dismayed and they still believed in Rovers. I think that was because of the confidence which still ran through the club and the feeling that in every respect, stadium, management, team and public profile we were competitive and that success or otherwise depended entirely on our own efforts.

Like you I was at the Newcastle game, watching from the North Enclosure with a couple of mates. But I guess finances were also much different in those day with most clubs operating with a first team squad of 16 or 17 and players earning little more than the fans who watched them. Training ground? Well there was the cinder pitch or Eastville Park. As players wages went up so did expectations and club loyalty declined and new revenue streams where needed to finance it all. I'd swop what we have now for those days in a blink of an eye. Remember the Greenbank pub where several players would enjoy a quiet mid-week beer and buying the Green 'Un on Saturday at 6.00 pm after a game to read the report and catch up on news. Unfortunely, I agree with your analysis of the current situation and the optimism I had when the Al Quadis' took over has gone and I'm still not sure what happened to make them change from the objectives they set out when they bought the club. Just don't know what we can do to make the family more upfront in what they plan.

1. Those League Cup matches against Villa, Stoke, Man U, Birmingham in early 70s. No better atmosphere, not even Wembley. 2. Esp the quarter final V Villa when they went 1-0 up and we battered them for the rest of the match in torrential rain if I remember right to get a late equaliser 1-1. 3. Match against Tranmere in early 73 (?) when Dick Shepard’s career was ended, awful moment. 4. Match against Halifax in 72 I think or 73 when standing in the Tote End and fog came down so you couldn’t see other end and just about see our end. Harold had a long range shot. One of those moments when I was directly in line with him, the goal and me and I was jumping up celebrating a goal about two seconds before anyone else. Great moment. 5. All the matches against Villa and Fulham in early 70s in the league, they were such even matches in front of huge crowds. Say what you like about the hole that Eastville became into the 80s but it was our hole and nothing will ever beat the atmosphere in those cup matches in the 70s. UTG!
ps great thread Swiss.

1. My first game April 76 v Southampton won 2-0 with Frankie Prince scoring twice. 2. Having bricks thrown over onto us by Spurs fans. 3. The amazing 5-5 draw against Charlton and there being a female Charlton fan on the Tote being protected by two burley gasheads. 4. Playing West Ham and not realising until the teams came out I was actually surrounded by West Ham fans. 5.The final ever match at Eastville walking off the Tote thinking I'd just seen the final match in the History of Rovers. 6. On a snowy February day throwing snow balls at the brass band that walked around at half time trying to get them into the tuba!!

Paul Randall running through the middle countless times - especially the goal against Southampton in 78.
Bobby Gould's 25 minute debut hat-trick against Blackburn (followed by the 9-0, one of the very few away games I went to then).
First ever match, as a nine year old, throwing the ball back to Wayne Jones from the South Enclosure.
Happy Days!

Where Bobby Gould had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside that would have put us 3-1 up? Ipswich won the cup that year - Just Sayin'........
