Can't believe he is starting over someone like Henry Jones (although having said that, they are slightly different midfielders). I'm hoping Jones comes off the bench. Whenever I've seen him he has displayed a nice range of passing and has an eye for goal. To be fair to Bond, thought he has played quite well. Can only remember him being played.on the wing with us and certainly not in central midfield. He has done ok tonight, but for us he looked poor. In fairness to him though, as you say, he was played mostly in a wider role and he has always been better centrally. Not my sort of player though and one of numerous poor signings by Wardy like Chris Beardsley etc.

Just watched the Fylde game. Why would we want a ground like that? I can see the potential for expansion but other than that a soulless bland stadium. They have one stand with a fantastic roof and really good lighting. UWE? A white elephant that could seat 24000 but would have 8500 in it? Triffic! No-one likes coming to the Mem because when it's rocking it's a cauldron. It's VERY rough around the edges and needs improving in many ways but we are Bristol Rovers. When the f*ck would we get 24000 anywhere? Fair play to Fylde owner for having ambition, but having a better stadium than your equals doesn't bring success. I remember going to Notts County in the early 90's in their brand new stadium. I'd been to the old Meadow Lane and it was a sh*t pit but had atmosphere. The new Meadow Lane was dire, loads of facilities but 2/3rds empty and soulless (didn't help they beat us 3-0 admittedly). We didn't leave saying "oh well, we got battered, but it was a lovely ground", we all left angry saying "we got battered and we were sh**e" (one of the first times I'd heard our own fans boo our own team). We are Bristol Rovers. I am worried we are being sold down the river by our current owners. But we need to be realistic. We're Gas. We'll be here forever because we are a family and it's in our blood. We have been through worse times than having a dishevelled ground that needs updating. We will do much better if that happens than if we play at a third full stadium with no soul. Stay strong. Stay true and blue. UTG.

What a load of nonsense, it's just as well Swansea nor Brighton owners didn't think the same short sighted way or they'd probably still be playing us in Div 1 or 2 in their old sh!t grounds.

If we redevelop the Mem we can have the best of both. A more traditional looking stadium in a central location but with modern facilities that can hopefully attract new supporters and more revenue. It's just getting someone to pay for it that's the problem.

Swansea and Brighton did pretty well in their old sh**e grounds in the 80's on lower attendances that suited their budgets didn't they? Times have changed granted but Coventry (and there are too many others to mention. Fratton Park springs to mind) have got a fantastic bland stadium and it looks reeeeeally great a quarter full. My how it's helped them. The rugby boys enjoy their stadium though because they like bland and everyone must be jolly polite to each other. To go to the n'th degree, how have the 'home' teams done when playing their league/cup games at Wembley? The one thing that will improve our fortunes is paying wages. Modern day players nowadays would play on the Downs if you paid them more than a team with a Lovely stadium (look at the exodus to China). They couldn't give a f*ck where they play (or, with most of them who for).

You think Special lady gardenHook Taylor went across the river because of their plastic no atmosphere stadium? He went there knowing he wouldn't get much game time but he was tripling his wages. If Mangotsfield United had offered him the same money he would have gone there too. And I can't blame him for that. If some bloke working out of the back of a trailer offered me triple the money for the same job as some swanky bloke working in an office built of chrome and steel, as long as I knew trailer boy was kosher, I know where I'd go.

UTG. your right,if were always going to be a crap team in the lower divisions the mem is fine. Notts co built their ground based on them going onto better things but they havnt[gone on]. Remember the play-off final v huddersfield, they built there new ground around that time, what a pointless thing to do,they will never get anywhere will they! The way the commercial side of football is going and the more we get left behind the only place were going is league 2,the conference or worse. Its the fall back of a failed club "we dont want to play in a soul less bowl"

Imo the charge taken out against the Mem wasn't meant to be blown in the space of a few months. And surely a big chunk of that 12m was paying off the old board anyway? So Hamer saying the new owners have invested 12m is complete bull. Investing 12m and spending 12m on purchasing shares is 2 totally different things and a way of Hamer using a bit of political spin to relieve some heat in an interview. It’s not the first time he’s been economical with the truth. I’d love to ask Hamer exactly what and how they’ve actually invested this fictional £12m ?

They cleaned the carpets and curtains and installed new hand dryers in the bogs apparently. Evolution not revolution. Up the crazy gang!

I’d love to ask Hamer exactly what and how they’ve actually invested this fictional £12m ? You don't need to ask Hamer just ask yourself. If you can't remember the questions I'll help you along a bit, the Al Qadi family in the shape of Dwyane Sport invested i,e input money) in 1 Memorial Stadium. (reportedly worth £10m to the Sainsbury deal) 2 The Colony. (reportedly purchased for £750000 ) 3 Football League Club License. ( what was that worth to MK Dons when they hijacked Wimbledon? ) 4 Player values ( real market value? but worth £?m's to me ) 5 Player purchase (reported by Clarke to be £135000to date) 5 Staff relating to football matters only now 25. (not sure but would appear to be an increase of 100% at least with related increased wage bill say 10 x £18000/annum =£180000/year. over 2 years £360000 ) 6 Planning permissions and design fees for UWE,the Colony and The Mem plus Feasability studies. (no idea but not cheap) 7 Minor ground improvements not including Santa's Grotto unless that is included in the new family area by todays game. £ 8 New transport (I've seen quite a few vans and mini buses running about recently) £ ? 9 Free pint, pie and bring a friend for season ticket holders and 10% off shirts. (pint 3.20, pie 3.20 ticket £12 average say by 6000 season ticket holders is a loss of revenue of £110000 for good will)
