I think Liverpool have played this really smart. They already have Salah, Mane, Firmino, Sturridge and Lallana, with Brewster and Woodburn to come through. They are not exactly short of attacking options, but with the knowledge that they were going to get £142 million they have spent a combined £125 million of it on a world class defensive midfielder (Keita) and defender (van Dijk), both of which are much needed to strengthen their spine. Get themselves a world class keeper and they'll be in great shape. I agree, done as well as they can out of it. Butland would be a logical move for both him and Liverpool.

Absolutely crazy money. This is going to make the big transfers even more silly, if Coutinho is apparently worth £142M, then somebody like Eden Hazard must be worth £500M.
If Virgil Van Dijk is worth £75M then how much would the likes of Bobby Moore, Beckenbaur, or even more recently Paulo Maldini be worth in today's climate? The mind boggles. Not sure Hazard is over 3 times as good as Coutinho!

He's won 2 League titles, PFA Player Of The Year twice, PFA Young Player Of The Year, and Football Writers Player Of The Year and been in the PFA Team Of The Year 4 times, that's just in England. He also won a League Title in France, won French Player Of The Year twice, won French Young Player Of The Year twice and was in French League 1 Team Of The Year 3 times, and that wasn't with PSG or Monaco, that was with Lille. What has Coutinho ever won? Or achieved in his career so far? In this crazy world of insane transfers and if Coutinho is apparently worth that, then yeah, Eden Hazard should be worth £500M imo of course.

The sad thing about this is, we want to build a stadium for say40-50 million, that could effectively sort our future for a long time. One player can be worth that much, yet he won't even be playing in 10 years time!! It's obscene.

Pushing it a bit I know would 142 million be enough to get Luke James back?

Yep, he’d be worth every penny of £500M. UTG!

It's rampant capitalism gone mad, just like in British industry, where the top earners take 200x the salary of the average manager, when in reality they are about three times as good. And don't tell me he's worth it for the millions he'll bring to the party in attendances and sponsorship. Nobody would have stopped sponsoring or watching Barca if they hadn't signed him. It's like the last days of the Roman Empire. Well, exactly. Makes you wonder how much Spartacus would have gone for.
